The "I Got A New Game!" Thread

I pretty much completely disagree, CommonKnowledge. I've already said my part on what I think the game does well and the gameplay is one of those things. I would recommend Infinite.

Edit: You've also apparently forgotten the Possession vigor which fulfills the role of hacking vis a vis combat and without the nasty tedious chore of playing Pipe Dream every time you hack something.

That comic is wrong. It's Electro Bolt that solves everything.

Anyway, got my hands on Command and Conquer Generals. I don't think I'll ever forget the joy of discovering transport units with firing ports when I first played this game. And if I tire of it, I can play the other Command and Conquer games as well.

Why can't Firaxis make anything close to that level of detail, an amazing mix of strategy a story, anymore?

As long as they don't bring back the diplomacy AI I'm fine with a similar new game.

Yeah, the AI is more suicidally aggressive than every single Civ 5 leader, and that's really saying something. I've recently played SMAC again and it hasn't aged that well. The UI is just terrible.

Bioshock Infinite - Good enough for a playthrough, not more.

Has anyone tried Starseed Pilgrim yet?

I got heroes of might and magic complete. It has 1-5 on disc. So far 1 is pretty awesome. It's really simple compared to more recent strategy games but under all that simplicity is a lot of strategic depth. Well done. Although the campaign is ridiculously hard and plays the same as regular games for the most part. The sprites held up pretty well I'd say, it doesn't look half bad.

I haven't played any of the others but I loaded 3 and 4 just to see the graphics progression and I'm not that impressed, I think I prefer the sprites of 1 and 2. It remains to be seen though which is the best, as I've heard 3 is the best of the series.

Got the D&D anthology on Gamersgate on Saturday (Baldur's Gate 1&2, Icewind Dale 1&2, Planescape: Torment, and The Temple of Elemental Evil, whatever that is). Gonna play BG1 for the first time, then port my character over to BG2. I've done a bit of digging around and it seems that if I want to do the canon party (which I guess I do?), I should probably be a cleric or bard. The thing is, I have no idea if I should dual or multiclass. I also don't know what alignment is best for clerics.

I've never had anything to do with 2e before now so no idea how the rules differ from 3.5e.

I got Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon. It's one of the most hilarious and awesome games I've ever played. Ubisoft deserves respect again.

Does far cry 3 blood dragon have anything to do with the other far cry series? I just wondered about the name since it uses the same font. Satire of the other far cry games?

I haven't played Far Cry 1, 2, or 3, but apparently, it started as a remake of Far Cry 1 and then someone got high and went "Hey what if we made it an 80s sci fi action movie?" Thus the greatest neon-saturated blood bath of all time was born.

And yes, it doesn't take itself seriously. The blood dragons shoot lasers from their eyes and have plasma breath.

In that case I'm surprise they haven't been sued for copyright infringement base on the title and the logo, unless maybe they got permission. Or they probably did if it started as a remake now that I think about it.

I'm surprise too, I would totally expect Ubisoft to sue itself.

I got Neverwinter Nights 2 about a week ago. Played a bit of it. The D&D style mechanics go over my head (no experience with D&D) but I hope the story experience is worth it. Or at least better than Dragon Age, which I'm not enjoying as much as I could have.

NWN2 was the first game with D&D mechanics I ever played. The story is decent enough I suppose but the mechanics grow on you after awhile. Low-level D&D characters are pretty much never fun. Things always pick up around the time when your magic users can cast 2nd and 3rd level spells.

Also, for your sorcerer, don't pick fire spells every level, you have to diversify if you want them to be effective because they learn less spells than wizards (but can use more spells per day, which is a whole lot more useful)>

Sadly I could never get over the (cumbersome imo) d&d mechanics of nwn2 and the story was not compelling enough to keep me into it. I just didn't understand how to make my fighters better and kept getting destroyed by attacks of opportunity because I moved around way too much.

Fighter gets fighty gear. Give him weapons he likes. Use weapons to smash mooks. Give him heavy armor. Use armor to block mooks from killing your mages. Use mages to burninate everything. Loot. Rest. Find more meatbags. Repeat.
