The "I Got A New Game!" Thread

Although terribly expensive in US markets, I found an affordable ($25) copy of Star Trek Elite Force II through eBay. It runs fine, and I'm currently enjoying the sequel to a favorite game from my teens. It's ten years old now, but it looks fine to me.

Today I shot Captain Picard several times. I felt kind of awkward when he complimented me on my shooting and invited me to join him in a cup of tea..

Ah, Elite Force... I loved that series, along with Birth of the Federation. It is a real shame that Star Trek development in the media scene has pretty much died (Deep Space Nine #1).

I just bought Company of Heroes on a Steam sale this weekend and holy  is it awesome. I have just begun the British campaign and I love 25 pounders to the extreme and their awesome infantry with snipers and Bren guns make it so much fun storming the germans.

Bought Towns. I'll post some screenshots when I get some good ones.

This concept is AMAZING, but it says "pre-order now." Is it in beta right now, and is it/will it be on Steam?

edit: I have no idea where to put this, but Steam inexplicably gave me a 50% off coupon for King Arthur 2. I have played all of 10 minutes of the first game. What do.

It's in beta, but pre-ordering it gets you into the beta. I have no idea if it will be on Steam.

Yeah, I got this too. It's a great game, but my personal shortcomings are making it difficult for me to do very well. I suck at micro, so when I try to handle both micro and tactics both of those things suffer. In, say, Command and Conquer games I could bypass that by turtling, but you can't really turtle in CoH - at least, not effectively - so my results are kinda bad.

I had this problem in Ensemble's games. Usually, turning down the difficulty will solve the problem, but sometimes, it will make the game too easy.

I want a good RTS designed for micro-inept people.

Well, Total War games are easy enough, because the tactics are separated from the micro and I can do real time tactics pretty well.

I already have four of them, plus they're half TBS.

I bought Towns, it's like if DF was made from the top down instead of from the bottom up, if that makes any sense. It's easier to queue stuff up and set up a military, and there are actually tutorials worth a damn, but on the other hand, there's less everything.

Yeah. I still can't understand Dwarf Fortress to save my life, so I'll stick with Towns.

I actually understand about 90% of DF due to extensive wiki walks. Most of the stuff I don't understand is bugged to hell, so it's not actually my fault. My main issue with the game is freaking bows. Sometimes the work, usually they don't.

My main issue with Towns, on the other hand, is that there are no hotkeys for designating.

lol, I've come upon a pretty good solution for one of my favorite games, Lords of the Realm 2: Just turn down the game speed :p. It's also a great way to quickly get through dull waiting bits.

That's actually a rather nice idea. To the program files!

... as soon as I finish playing with Towns. Which will probably leave me in the mood for some DF.

Towns is kind of odd right now. I have to put food production at the very tippy top of priories or everyone will starve, but if I do that, nothing else gets done. This brings me to Risen, which I picked up in some Steam sale last year. It's kinda boring and the first 30 minutes I've played are full of awkward writing. Combat is also weird. Like almost every LoZ game, it suffers from the fact that walking is not your fastest mode of transport on foot, even though it is the most normal. The difference is I'm jumping 8 feet ahead instead of rolling.

Does it get any better? If not, I might just put it down for good.

It gets better when you reach the city, it's more interesting then.
(...and is sure more fun when you're stronger and don't have to do the hit-and-run tactic on every enemy)

I assume this is what you are talking about. The dungeon exploring is and should be mostly done by the heroes. Your citizens are for pretty much anything else. Once you get farms and start producing meat, your citizens don't eat quite as frequently because meat fills them more than bread. Also, there are some specialty foods that fill even more. If you have any other questions I suggest PMing me, as to not bother all these other people.

How far is the city into the game? Before stopping last night, I got to a tomb surrounded by grave moths.

Not sure. I more or less just got to the abandoned house with the frying pan. Not very far into the game at all.

Then she's not yet rescued ;).

Depending on how much stuff you do (exploring, doing some of the side quests), the city is probably at least...mmhh...if you said you needed 30 minutes....something between another 30 and 90 minutes away.

Oh, if you played Gothic 1 or 2, then you'll get the right feeling at some point, believe me ;).
