There does seem to be a problem if you have different versions of DirectX you have to allow the person onto you with the different version. Well I think that is what is happening.

Yes, if you are already logged on and you get a message asking you if you trust an incoming player with a different version please accept.

Game is pooched I think ... tried to log in and Whiplash is in a permanent state of logging in, CS is there too but not there because he is showing as AI ... I couldn't play my turn.

Not "permanent" just slow.
My first attempt at getting in while U2 and one other were already in got me disconnected with the Network Socket Error.
My second attempt was OK as nobody else was in the game.

Thank you very much for taking over a civ in the middle of the game, which avoided having to switch it to the AI. That was much appreciated, I am sure, by everyone.Bolkonsky.

I would prefer to beat a human opponent that and AI one. It is much more satisfying.

I'm not saying I prefer AI's to humans in the game. It's just that in this case BB completely screwed my strategy. The original palyer, Scooter, was my ally. BB rebuffed my alliance offer and chose to attack. Since I was "set up" for a peaceful alliance I had little military and I had to slave down my cities' populations to ward him off.
BB could have been part of a 3 party alliance but chose to attack; pretty dumb move in my opinion. BB threw just about everything at me, leaving himself vulnerable to Carthage.
But we all have our individual playing styles.
I also didn't care much for his personal sniping in this thread; so I was happy to deliver the coup d' grace.

No communication of alliance was ever made to me.
Ooooo you gave me the "coup d' grace" in a game where I started mid way through in a bad situation. That is something to brag about. If it had been you and me, one on one I still would have won and you know it. Props go to Carthage! You just happened to be in the right place at the right time.

I'm not bragging, just reporting. It's stupid to go 1v1 in the ancient era with 10 - 12 players in the game (in this case 1v2, but it seems you didn't figure that out). It just guarentees that the aggressor and the target will both be losers.
I know this is falling on stone ears.
