Morbid but comical? I think not... That way of looking at it is distorted...

As offended as I am I have to take a page out of EweezE's book and mix it with a little bit of your twisted logic: Germany should not be included in the next game considering how many times they tried steal their neighbors land, murder the locals, and impose their own culture...same goes for England, Spain, Russia, Japan...

Where do you come from Charlie_B? Maybe there's something for you too. :ar15:

Ur, once again, you sort of misunderstand me Dvalin. Here's the quote...

"Just look at America's history - discovering new land, murdering all the locals, imposing your own culture etc - that's what Civ's all about!"

What's morbid, comical, and a bit true is that this is what Civ is about (let's face it, that is how the game is played 90% of the time - it's morbid, comical, and accurate that most of Civilization is smashing someone's civilization), not so much specifically America's history. And fact is, this is a pretty morbid, comical, and accurate statement about most imperial and national history - be it the Americans, the Germans, the French, the English, the people who first came to the new world, any number of conquering nations in mainland Europe, Asia, Africa...

There is a lot of anti-American sentiment in this forum, that is true, and I can understand why you're a bit sensitive. Just when you see something from me that looks suspect, I'd ask you to give me the benefit of the doubt - I wasn't raised to think that way, and my upbringing stuck. Your country is a hoot and a holler to visit, your countrymen are mainly friend (outside of New York and L.A.), and my only criticism I level against it is that it isn't perfect nor above reprimand and shouldn't be treated as such - much the same charge I'd level against any nation.

Oh, and if my logic is twisted, perhaps you could tell me how to straighten it out :crazyeye:

I did quote you but I was addressing Charlie_B primarily and only you in regards to the comical/accurate thing which I saw as supporting his view. It may have been a clever comment in his mind and yours but I can't laugh. Maybe I just don't get the joke.

America has a violent history and isn't perfect but it's certainly not unequaled in this respect. Nobody here is claiming America is perfect or the best country ever except EweezE. Everyone else is just defending her from undue criticism and dismissal as a prominent, deserving civ. I don't really see anyone bashing any European countries consistently (except for EweezE, but he's a moron) so what's the motivation for lashing out at America? If there's already a slew of US haters that doesn't signal to me that it's being treated like it's 'perfect'.

AFAIK nobody has been bashing Germany like EweezE either, so do too many people think Germany is perfect? Is it then necessary to drag out the same old argument to bring it down a peg? Charlie_B's comment may be some of those three things if applied fairly to many different nations at some time in their histories, but is it not clearly a provocative smear on America? I don't think the USA's reputation needs to be brought down any more than it already is. Comments like those coming from Charlie_B and EweezE are just bitter cheap shots in my eyes.

That's an understatement. Anti-American sentiment is running rampant here, and throughout the World too. It seems people like to hate who's at the top. I'm suspecting it's jealousy.. When America finally subsides, you won't catch me making asinine comments in an attempt to belittle the next top dog. It's unsportsmanlike to make such comments, and calls for a beat down if you ask me. If you don't like who's in power, take the power back!

NY and LA, I think have ego problems due to their cities' high pop and Great Artist output. Chicago, Houston, and Philadelphia are more down to Earth and probably set better examples :p. Visit one of these cities next time instead. I've been to Toronto quite a few times in the past to play hockey, Windsor and Kitchner too. Love those Tim Hortons bagel shops on every corner, wish we had 'em down here in the South. Canada is a nice place, but too cold for me.

And to think, I was just about to say something nice about you..

You don't get a lot of things Dvalin .

The irony is killing me.

How can anyone reason with you if you just respond with "Clearly you're just jealous of our freedom or you wouldn't be saying that"? If Australia was the sole superpower in the world you wouldn't see me acting like that :mischief:.

The irony is killing me.

Your name is killing me. Seriously, continue to comment about America negatively. It is no sweat off my back to make another post here in the thread.

I'm not going to tell you what to say in your next post! If your argument has run out of gas, then save the bandwidth and do not post. I don't suppose there is a way to reason with an anit-American, such as "Johnny Jihad". If you stand on the anti-American side Dryhad (your name is awfully close to Jihad btw, purely coincidence I hope) then I don't expect you to digest my posts well. Just know that if you manage to kill some Americans with your IED bomb; we will kill 10 times that many of your people. Our lives may not be worth more, but your lives are worth less to us after such an attack :trouble:.

If Australia were a superpower that'd be great. Those down under boys are our allies. Australia is in a strategic position (similar to England's position to Europe) to impose its will on out of line Asian countries.

My point was that anyone who plays Civ should know that such things lie in the histories of most 'great' civilizations, and that therefore it's foolish for people to get at America specifically for their history, and it's foolish for Americans to get upset about it. I only picked out America because that's what most people had been talking about; my comments were intentionally generic. I'm glad at least AfterShafter understood, next time perhaps i'll be less oblique.

Ok, i probably won't - it's more fun this way ;)

i can only say...

LOL

i dont think it jealousy dude, i think its statemens like those that trigger it.
the arrogance in that statement is breathtaking.
