The logic behind resources bonuses

that just has to do with nutrition and caloric intake, which middle age europeans didn't have much of either and thus overall were shorter/smaller.

If you look at developed asian countries, the kids are getting bigger. That can be blamed on globalization partly since they are eating more western style food than ever, but their everyday diet is still mostly comprised of their own cultural food... except that it just gets bigger and meatier once standard of living rises.

That's not all of it. Rice has much lower protein than wheat.

I wonder, how nobody mention Nikita Khrushchev in regard of corn obsession.
If I understand this correctly, value of corn per acre is highest, and that what was matter, not nutrition quality, etc.

Did you read the bolded sentence? Do you know what the word murder implies?

If you thought (as apparently you did) that it was a suggestion that the moves you make in a game of Civ should be influenced by real-life morality, that seems typical of the incomprehension you are spraying in all directions. It meant nothing of the kind.

Rice was much harder to process than corn or wheat. However, with modern technology, rice can be processed almost as easily as corn or wheat. So, perhaps rice should give less food before researching Replaceable Parts?

Reading through this thread was a painful exercise in masochism. While this probably does feed the trolls, I cannot see how NFW came to any of his conclusions, unless there is a translation issue. Damerell has a knack for bringing out the anger in people, but the truth is his arguments are usually well-constructed, and impersonal until someone "gets personal" with him.
Finally, if you're going to chide people for "personal attacks" when no such attacks exist, you shouldn't then stoop to calling people "********." THAT is a personal attack, and, if I expected any action on your part, I'd say you should apologize.

I honestly don't think the Firaxis developers actually had a reason to make the rice yield lower than maize or wheat - I don't think they sat down and discussed it. I bet they just decided that the yields should be different for flavour/variety sake, and rice got the short end of the stick because, hey, Civ was developed in America and wheat/maize are just a more important staple to the American diet than is rice. If the game were developed in Asia it could have been the other way around.

What's interesting about the game is that situations where one civ has infantry while another longbow-men is quite possible, but its never fun.
