How do you know they were Dutch pirates? They may in fact have been Ottoman pirates...
(These little buggers spawn like crazy... Just like Hawklord's Men of War in the Napoleon game... The ones I build are mostly veteran...)

BTW: can you keep track of if and when war weariness kicks in? After the game I'd like to do a bit more research/speculation about this topic. At the moment I'm still enjoying war happiness, despite the heavy fighting two turns ago, which should definitely have given me > 60 WW points?!
However, in another game that is currently running over at the Civforum site ("Das Saufspiel") one team got attacked and then went from war happiness to normal to war weariness in less than 10 turns?!

That is strange... the three cities on our continent alone should have put you at +18 WW? Maybe there is some exception in the formula for fighting foreign troops in one's own territory.

War weariness just kicked in for me this turn. Riots all over the place... I'll certainly keep my saves around, if you want to have a look at them after the game.
