What exactly is "parochialism"? I looked that up and it said: a limitation of views or interests like that defined by a local parish. I dont understand that really.

That's what I thought but I wasn't quite sure.

Not having an interest in or awareness of nation / international events.

Being more interested in what your neighbours are up to than what is happening in the world.

That makes sense. Thanks.

Question: My mom just told me that my grandfather died with a silly look on his face because of something called "riger moortis." And they had to break his jaw to make him look not silly in the coffin. What exactly is that?

I wish there was a phonetic dictionary :(

Rigor mortis is when blood clots after death and you stiffen up. It's why a slang term for a dead person is "a stiff".

EDIT: Looks like I was wrong about it being caused by blood clotting.

Thanks.

I read this in an article:
"The brewery, on a campaign to heighten its appeal among U.S. teens"

Why would they do that. Teens can't buy beer.

I thought they needed to check for I.D.s and things. Did it change sometime between 1983 and now?

Heres another one: "It is the voice of a generation grown tired of the repetitive pettiness (no pun) of the world."

Wheres the pun?

Presumably it's from an article about "He who must not be named (in OT)".

I didn't think of that. LOL. Sometimes Im real dumb.

Other than drinking water, how can I moisturize my throat and sinuses? They're pretty dry and irritated.

In theory yes, but they don't always.

It's not that hard for teenagers to get alcohol even if it's technically illegal.

It's easier to just get drugs though - they don't check your ID.

It's because you're not going to a reputable or classy dealer. A good dealer checks id and provides receipts and has a refund policy.

I only go to dealers registered with the local chamber of commerce and the BBB

I found an odd phrase in a book. "Cynical optimist." Isnt that technically an oxymoron? Because
Cynical: Believing the worst of human nature and motives; having a sneering disbelief in e.g. selflessness of others
Optimist: A person disposed to take a favorable view of things
