You should try an English university.

Or any typical American/Canadian college/university. I'm pretty sure dormitories should just be renamed to "Get Drunk Here". So glad I dodged a bullet and get to live off-campus by myself.

This.

Plus, dorms in my University have been known to be raided by the Admins in order to force shut-ins to shower and clean up. That's how far down the rabbit hole this particular strain of nerds go around here.

Well, ok. Some people go to college to drink. More than I would like to admit. Seems like a hellacious waste of daddy's money though. Or a really stupid long-term loan decision. If you want to get wasted for 2 to 4 years straight go get a part time job and crash with a friend or 4 on the floor of studio apartment and get blitzed without blowing off classes that cost a bagillion dollars. Then, when that gets boring, actually go to university or enroll in the technical program of your choice.

We did, at one point, box a dormmate into the bathroom until he agreed to shower. It took a while, but the stench of stale human feces had long passed being acceptable.

There is something known as a Regimental Bath in the Army, where soldiers, fed-up with a barrack-mate's attitude to hygene, grab him and give him a good clean in the bath with the roughest brushes they can find and some lovely cleaning products - usually floor cleaner - to get the smell off. Of course, that never happens in today's Army.

Well, I'm pretty sure it would technically have counted as false imprisonment, but it needed done nonetheless. He must have complained, since the university came to check out his room, which they condemned and moved him to an all-girls floor. Then bleached the everloving hell out of his previous residence. I don't think he had enough time remaining in the rest of the semester to get back to his previous level of funk.

The forced-bathing is a regular occurance here; incidents peak about 2 weeks after the latest Call of Duty release when a significant fraction of the school comes down with the CoD flu and stop going to classes.

@Farm Boy - Why move him to the girls floor?

Oh I thought Farm Boy meant they permanently relocated him.

They should have made him help clean it under supervision.

Edit: Upon reread, the way he posted 'previous residence' does make it sound like a permanent move. Or maybe it just took that long to clean.

No, he didn't come back to our floor. I'm not certain on the rationale behind the girls floor. Perhaps they figured he wasn't a threat since anyone could smell him coming, perhaps they figured the girls wouldn't box him into a bathroom to force him to bathe, perhaps they figured the aroma of perfume and scented baubles would help counterbalance the stench that was certain to re-arise. Maybe it was the only room open. Nobody lived in the room he desecrated until at least the next semester. Never once saw him leave that room except when we caught him in the bathroom. Not sure if he went to class. Not positive what he ate, but it must have happened.

If college boys are willing to donate and then throw away bottles of soap and shampoo and the towel/washclothes when they're short on beer money, you know the situation is desperate.

Which is why I will never move on campus :)!

It was a pretty significant aberration from the norm. For what it's worth, off campus housing is almost always much filthier.

Casuals. Try joining the still-living-with-parents master race. All food prepared. All clothes cleaned. House is kept immaculately clean (with my own input, of course. I'm not totally dependent. I always have to chuckle to myself when I see the unwashed herds pile out of their student accommodation first thing on a Monday morning.

Spoiler :
Not that I'm implying you are part of the unwashed herd. But from what you say some of them obviously are.

Meaning the world is just one big campus?

This view might have some merit, I suppose.

Indeed it is. When do you want to collect your 76 representatives again? :mischief:

There was some talk a few years ago, from specifically Brazil if I recall - but it would apply to every country - that they should have some say in US presidential elections since they are affected by the decisions that are made in the US.

At the moment only the electorate of the USA get to have any say in who polices the planet. And it ain't fair. (Is the cry.)

Ha, my parents kicked me out so I lived with my grandma. While she did a lot for me, she is also handicapped so I did quite a bit for her as well.

See, when I was a young man it was a universally-accepted fact of life that any man worth the name would sacrifice comfort to gain autonomy - he would rather live independantly and simply than in comfort with his parents. It's a little worrying that this trend seems to have reversed recently.

I know, Flying Pig, but times change. And it does take a surprising amount of skill to take care of oneself effectively and efficiently. And the difference between living in a long established family home, and having to take care of every arrangement for oneself (as if in fact anyone actually does do this in any real sense) can be stark.

Of course, the army life, now, does kind of arrange all that sort of thing for you. If not downright catering to your every need, at least laying out in precise terms: now do this and this.
