Oh huh now that I think about it I did nuke the Greeks into the stongeage once for fun.
I'm usually really peaceful in the modern age, but I like building up the army just in case. And of course once possible I like building some nuclear ICBM's and tactical nukes to load up on nuclear subs and place them near competing CIV's. Especially the really powerfull ones that might bother me.
One particular game, my biggest opponent was the Greeks. Relations were good, but we were both the biggest baddest boys on the block and they were just as powerfull as me. It was a sort of Cold War standoff where I always got the feeling they'd love to go to war and without realizing I was in a sort of arms race.
I had no intention of invading them ever, so my forces were mainly defensive, naval/air, and nukes. I had lost track of how many nukes I had built and loaded up on subs placed around the Greek coastline, and how many ICBM's I had, probably one in almost every city I had. In any case, just a ridiculous number of nukes there were.
Was going for a space race, but it was clear I'd never reach it in time before the final game turn. SO on the last turn I let loose just to see the amount of damage I could do.
WOW is all I could say! I swear it was incredible. I had so many of them, and I was able to nuke almost each of his cities at least once, some twice, and at the end of the turn almost his entire terriory was just covered in polution and it was just incredible how much distruction there was! Funny thing is, I played out the turns to the end, and he nuked me back on his, only a few, but it was nice to see the retaliation.
