The Mod of Modness Preview Thread

Okay, I've replaced Hitler with Shiro's excellent Barbarossa.
Also, when would Germany's Age of Power be? Because I've been thinking late industrial (WWI, WWII), mainly because they were powerful around then and there are plenty of German WW units around. However, is this a good choice? Was there another point in Germany's history where they were world-renouned, etc?

Barbarossa dosn't really mesh with an 'Age of Power' during WWI/WWII. In fact he didn't really over see germany gain any power. He tried to convert german fudalism to european fudalism, he tried to conquer Italy, sure he became 'leader of the holy roman empire' but he was little more then a figure head, and then he died drowing in a river on a crusade to the holy land....
For WWI/WWII that would leave really Kaiser Wilhelm, or Hitler.... don't let anyone pressure you into changing your mod, it sounds like you have put a lot of thought into it... personally Hitler did take a crushed empire and rebuilt it and then almost took over europe with it...
 
The leaderheads don't neccesarily correspond with the age of power, they're based on availability. But, are you saying that Hitler would, in fact, be a good leaderhead?
 
No, he would be an evil leaderhead. ;)

The problem with leaderhead is they can't be used for an epic mod very well.

Hitler could be representative of the Industrial age, at least a part of it, but Bismarck is better.

And what about ancient? Medieval?

It just doesn't fit everytime, and so it's not that important.

Perhaps you should just someone who "looks" German, in term of clothings for instance. The actual name doesn't really matter.

Call him Ulrich Elmut Wihlem von Winkelnkoenigstadt if you want.

By that logic, there's a major problem with all leaderheads; with the very idea of leaderheads in general. Why should Peter be a better representation of Russia than Catherine? Or Churchill instead of Elizabeth for England? How exactly is Bismark better than Hitler?

The reason, obviously, for having leaderheads instead of each civ being 'led' by 'Leader Bob' is because it adds flavor to the game, which is what we're all after.

It just doesn't fit everytime, and so it's not that important.

Than why does it matter if it's Hitler or not?

georgestow, if you want Hitler as your LH for Germany, than make it Hitler; its your mod, not anyone else's. If, after they've downloaded your finished product, they don't like it, they can change it themselves.

He would be as great of a leaderhead as any other leader... the only reason why some people hesitate is that his war crimes are still fresh in our minds... I doubt there are that many "great leaders" out there that have a 'clean' conscious... leaders wage wars, allowed slavery, lead rebellions, killed innocents, committed racial/religious discrimination, ect... just because one leader was able to take all those things to a radical new level, does not mean one should dismiss him as a great leader... As far as him representing ALL of German throughout the ages, that would depend on how you want to represent Germany... if you want industrial and expansionist, he would be fine... but Honestly I like Bismark the best, But if you want Hitler that would be cool...:goodjob:

Other then that your mod looks great and I cannot wait to play it!!!
 
To be honest, I was ever really content with Hitler to begin with, but it was simply bothering to get someone else to replace him that was the thing-as there weren't any other German leaders that I knew. I suppose I didn't know the leaders for many other countries too, but even so. And I agree with Plotinus in saying that having Hitler for that reason is feeble-and I can accept that I am sometimes feeble.
I won't have Hitler because I don't want to replace someone again, and because of the quarrels caused. Maybe not quarrels... something sligtly less than a quarrel, but not a debate...

Anyway, thanks for all the comments, and criticism, I need it.:D

Have added Carthage units, some more French, several buildings, new Mayan leaderhead and (for now) finished the Neo-Modern tech tree.
 
I've made considerable progress, but I haven't updated this thread in ages. I've heard that there's a buildings limit in Civ III, so I might not be able to implement the building extensions. Does anyone know what the limit is (if it exists).
 
Yes that limit will make it difficult to have extensions in an epic mod. Could be used well in scenarios and non-epic mods. I thinking particularly of medieval castles that you can add towers and extra walls to etc that all make your city more defensible.

I've made loads of progress in The Mod of Modness, but I'm nearing/am at the stage where I can't continue without the help of others, ie. you.

The problems I am facing are:
  • Need Babylonian Age of Power Units
  • Need Sumerian Age of Power Units
  • Need Hittite Age of Power Units
  • Need Portugese Age of Power Units
  • Need Hippy Unit
  • Need Ocean Settler Unit
  • Need Steppe Settler and Worker
  • Need Ideas for Governments
  • Need Ideas for Specialist Citizens
  • Need Ideas for Things to fill up the Future
  • Need Ideas for Resources

All the units will obviously need someone who can make units. I'm hoping to get Poser for Christmas, but this can't be guaranteed and my stuff will no doubt be worse than what many of the more experienced unit creators here can make.
Government ideas are really just for the medieval and modern/future eras, because I don't feel I have enough in those eras.
I don't have enough specialist citizens, so they can just be ideas for anywhere.
For things to fill up the future, I'm looking at techs without anything in right now, like Picotechnology, Femtoengineering and Origins of Life, especially.
And, finally, I'd basically like just about any resource ideas, although preferably not animal resources because I already have a lot of them being discovered at the same point (Animal Domestication).

So you have a vague idea what I'm on about, here is the current tech tree, which will be sorted out later, but I'm not at the point in the mod-making process: I've used the Babylonians because they currently have no Age of Power.

Just so you know, this mod will come with (at least) two .biq files. One will be the Mod of Modness, the other will be the Mod of Madness. If you look at the tech trees, you'll notice a load of rather silly units that were added in when this mod began (before I tried to make it vaguely historical). These units, and others things, will be in the Mod of Madness, but not in the Mod of Modness.

After this stage, which is just adding in the finishing bits, I'll create the Civilopedia, rearrange and make the tech tree look nice and other things along those lines. Then it'll be betatesting time!

The Current Release Time is about spring 2010
This is a ver bad estimate, I think it will be sooner.
After The mod of modness, will come the mod of madness.Literal madness.
