1. It is the western area of the country, currently divided in 2 provinces, noord-holland and zuid-holland. But these 2 provinces do not consist exactly the same area as holland did in the 17th century.
2. We have had 3 queens and 3 kings.

4. The Waterlinie? Isn't that a stroke of land in the west that can be put under water to protect us from invaders (which didn't really work in the last war)?

6. We have had Indonesia, parts of Zuid-Afrika, Suriname, New Amsterdam (now New York), and certainly some small island which I don't know, and currently we still have Aruba, Curacao, Bonaire, half of Sint-Maarten, Saba and Sint Eustatius.

15. WW1-neutral WW2-we were attacked by germany although we wanted to stay neutral.
16. Amsterdam was a flourishing city and in the south of the Netherlands (the current Flanders) many people fled to Amsterdam because the catholics there were not very nice to them. Many Jews from Portugal came here too. Later in the 1960's, we recruited Morroccons and Turks to work here because there were too less people to do all the (dirty) work. Later many people came here because there own countries weren't very nice and because you could easily enter the Netherlands.

WWI: being neutral and eventually let Wilhelm II into our country
WWII: get rushed and bombed by Germany

-Why did there come so many 'outlanders' to Amsterdam in the 16th and 17th century (and even later)?
The Spanish Inquisition was hunting them because of their religion. The Netherlands had religious freedom. Besides, Antwerpen was 'blocked' by Dutch ships, so they moved to the next wealthiest and best port: Amsterdam.
