The new patch seems to have arrived

I haven't had any loading issues post 1.0.0.62 with a new save.

http://forums.2kgames.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1242656&postcount=1

2kGreg just posted an update at 2k forums about the issue. They found the issue and working on a hotfix but it won't be coming out today. NO ETA given yet but unlikely it would be out before monday.

You misread what he wrote.. he said "I don’t have any specific ETA for the hotfix, but I am sure that it will not release before Monday."

Meaning monday at the soonest.

EDIT nvm I misread YOUR post

Given that you already need Steam to play the game, why are you objecting to using Steam to guarantee a fast download and smooth install?

Could it be you're a pirate and bitter that patches are not for the likes of you?

LOL already out for the pirates as well, all over torrent sites.... dont kid yourself...

Ya once they crack it to not need steam its easy to repeat the process each time theres an update and put the fully updated version on to torrents. Sad but true. But ya lets not turn this into another steam debate:nono:

Military AI seems slightly better. I used to be able to bait the enemy city's garrison to leave the city by just going 1 tile out of their range. They stay inside the city now. AI ranged units still do stupid positioning. Germany had 2 frigates blockading me when I could only build triremes. Not far enough into the game to see if they build air. AI is still easy enough to beat when outnumbered 3:1.

I was playing on Prince and getting out-teched even when my main focus was technology (research pacts + library + universities asap). I didn't have the best start because I was used to playing with mods; this time I decided to try a vanilla (aka modless) start. Also, an early successful war consumed a lot of my resources... other AI civs seemed to "rice up" while I was busy fighting.

Puppets actually have a good build order now. By default (can't change either), they focus on gold tiles.

can we actually download and install the patch on our own or do we absolutely need the annoying steam ?
Note: Steam does all the annoying updating for YOU!

So what's the fuss at the forums about Steam being annoying etc. etc. etc. etc. etc......?
I don't really get any of it, been using Steam since Half Life 2 came out, have had very few very minor issues with it.
If you're new to Steam, get used to it. You'll soon find that it makes your life a bit easier!

Anyone try the basic diplomacy tutorial pre-patch and post-patch? I don't know how it was pre-patch, but as of now it took me 210 gold, spices, and open borders to get 1 marble out of the guy. I noticed a couple of other complaints on trading in this thread. It looks as if trading is so harsh that war is the only way. I'm certainly not going to pay that kind of premium, I'll just kill them and take it. Not that I mind driving my enemies before me, raping their women, and hearing the lamentation of the children.

The new patch prevents me from loading my saved game. Is there anything I can do? I was far into my saved game. Can I uninstall the patch, if nescesary? Thanks in advance

In case you're owner of the deluxe version, there is a hotfix for this problem in the pipeline, but most probably will not be released before monday.

And now, thanks to Steam's way of working, there is not "rolling back".

Oh well. I guess I'll have to start a new campaign for the weekend.

I know the patch just arrived, but I wonder if I should go down a difficulty level for the new patch. My saved game started on immortal; but I switched to diety in mid-game by modifying the handicaps XML file. So if I was to start a new game before the patch was released, I'd have tried diety for the first time. But if the AI is better in the new patch, maybe I should stick to immortal.

Any advice? Thanks in advance

Can someone pls post the all code from the CIV5TacticalMoves file that can be found in your C:\Program Files\Sid Meier's Civilization V\assets\Gameplay folder (after you have patched with 1.0.0.62) here? It is an XML file and you just need to open it with notepad and copy and paste the code here (There isn't a lot of code in that file, so it won't be tedious). I'm working on an AI mod and like to see what the changes are before I patch. Thanks!

Assuming you mean "...\Assets\Gameplay\XML\AI\CIV5TacticalMoves.xml", then there are no changes to that file between 1.0.0.20 and 1.0.0.62.

Are there any changes to the GlobalDiplomacyAIDefines.XML and CIV5AIMilitaryStrategies.XML files in the C:\Program Files\Sid Meier's Civilization V\assets\Gameplay\XML\AI folder? I find it hard to believe that they did not change the content in the CIV5TacticalMoves.XML file (in the C:\Program Files\Sid Meier's Civilization V\assets\Gameplay\XML\AI folder) since I am reading that the AI fights differently now. Need someone to verify so that I do a better job at modding to create a smarter AI. Thanks.

All the files in Assets\Gameplay\XML\AI\ have changes except CIV5AIGrandStrategies.xml and CIV5TacticalMoves.xml.

The rest have some new strategies, and several changes to flavour weightings.

Given that everyone is going to upgrade in the end, I'd recommend making a copy of the entire Civ5 folder structure, letting Steam do the upgrade and then using Beyond Compare (or your diff tool of choice) to find the changes.

cheers

Thanks. Do you mind posting the new code in the GlobalDiplomacyAIDefines.XML and CIV5AIMilitaryStrategies.XML files here? I believe that the code in CIV5TacticalMoves.XML file needs to be changed in order to create a smarter combat AI (which I'm currently working on).

Yeah, it was dead even one luxury resource for another (at least the ones that don't have additional bonuses like marble) before the patch. Now, the AI wanted significantly more - then again, I had the weakest military at this point. Perhaps this plays a role?

That being said, I love the changes so far. It makes playing vanilla fun again, whereas before I just used the balance mods to play. As an added bonus, the patch made my Civ V run faster. I don't have the best video card, so this helps me a lot. Before the patch, I had to run in strategic mode once I had explored a decent bit of the map or I'd never be able to do anything. I think there are still a few changes to go to make the game truly great, but it's an excellent first step.

Not really sure if this is the place to post this, could'nt find a bug thread, but Augustus just offered me a research agreement which i agreed to, only problem is i had 37 gold and even though on the trading table it said 250 gold each, it worked anyway when i accepted.

----------------------------------

Edit, ignore this i think i made a mistake, probably looking at the wrong gold digits, per turn instead of actual amount owned, sorry about that.

Don't think I can do that, they are Firaxis copyright afterall, and I think they'd blow the post size limit anyway (assuming it's the same as the Private Message limit (hint hint)).

you only had 37 gold? what are you playing, a barbarian Civ??

On the way? No, you don't gift them by moving them to the city state, there's an option in the city state diplomacy menu, right below gifting gold. Instant (well, you get rid of the unit right away, 3 turns before the city state gets it), works anywhere.
Oh, good point. I noticed that feature once, but forgot about it.

Moderator Action: To anyone who is finding the patch has broken a savegame for a game that was in progress, keep your saves, as Firaxis looks like they are trying to fix the issue have identified the issue and have a hotfix planned

EDIT2

http://forums.2kgames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=95986
Hey guys,

As some of you already know, today’s 1.0.0.62 patch introduced an incompatibility with save games created on older versions of the game for those of you who have the Digital Deluxe edition of Civilization V.

We have identified the issue and are currently working on a hotfix. Unfortunately, this fix will not be ready for release by the end of the day today. I don’t have any specific ETA for the hotfix, but I am sure that it will not release before Monday.

The good news is that the fix will allow you to load your old saves once it is released, so if you hang on to those saves you will be able to continue them soon.

We’re really truly sorry for the inconvenience, and I will keep you updated if anything changes or when I get a firm ETA.

Also note that this only applies to the Digital Deluxe edition of the game. Players of the Standard edition should be able to load their old saves just fine.
