The new products from Apple

I really don't get how these e-watches will ever take off in a big way. They may make successful niche products, but I don't see them replacing real watches.

I've been wearing a Timex Expedition since 2001. Actually, I have two because I lost my first one and had to buy a second one ( same item ) but then found the first one when my brother was moving and it turned up in one of his packed boxes... Anyhoo, the battery in the first one has had to be replaced once, and the battery in the second one, which I got in November 2007, is still going strong.

I just don't see the point in replacing a perfectly reliable timepiece with one that will be worthless if I forget to recharge it every night.

Basically part of the marketing is creating new needs that you did not know you needed. Like, you need to answer your phone by just looking at your watch, or you need to know how many steps you take in a day or how many calories you burn between getting out of bed and getting your lazy butt into your car every morning, you need to see text messages on your wrist rather than going to the excruciating trouble of taking your phone out of your pocket! *gasp*, or you need to see weather on your watch, or your next meeting, in addition to the time...

You did not know you needed any of that did you? You're welcome.

I'm saddened to see more mp3 players focus on touchscreens, it's pretty much a light smartphone now. I often listen while working and the ability to reach into my pocket and change track or station without having to pull it out is a real perk. That said, I do like a decent sized screen to easily find what I"m looking for.

The last time I bought an iPod was back in 2008.

They still seem very overpriced to me, so I won't be getting any. I usually don't go for "paying for the brand" type of products, I'm more of a frugal shopper looking for the best deal. I'll splurge every once in a while, but if I were to splurge on a laptop, I probably wouldn't get apple either. For the same price I can get something more powerful elsewhere, so it doesn't really appeal to me, as sexy and smooth and silky as it might all look.

 Dan? Dan Draper, is that you?

I do get your point, though. I have gleefully fallen victim to that sort of advertising before. Witness the ever larger sizes of my refillable mugs. 34oz?! My God man, how can you think that is sufficient when we have 1/2 gallon mugs now? Hrm... actually, not sure if that's really the same, but it's the first thing that popped into my head.

according to a sponsored magazine article here, apple is supposedly targeting the luxury market for those watches. even came up with a cheesy gold-plated iWatch.
