The new RA system, how does it work?

Yeah, that's an irritating bug. All you can really do is plan around it. I try to sign the front end RAs in the first wave a few turns early (which is possible if you're using the first wave to clear the Chemistry/Econ level techs, then the later Renaissance techs and finally an Industrial tech) in order to minimize this problem.

part of the problem is mostly finished techs. I've had a few where I was 1-2 turns to complete it and got the next 2 techs in the RA with it. unfortunately that 3rd tech just ended up at some high beakers put towards it rather than finishing it. (like seeing Chivalry with 788 beakers into it and the next RA ready next turn to pop Banking/Printing Press)

you know though, I think RAs actually got more powerful than before. It sounds a bit strange, but you can actually have ~60bpt going into Modern...

Wait, what?

RAs CANNOT give you more than the 2nd queued tech? I could've sworn I've lost some beakers sometimes, but only now did I discover this :O

you still get the beakers, but they land in a hard way on the 3rd tech.

I think the question that really should be asked is, -ARE- they really inception? I have my doubts.

Yeah yeah. Typing quickly and not paying attention. So, now I'm curious, do you have anything in that post you'd like to agree with or refute? I can comb through your posts and I can probably grammar nazi at least some of them too, if that would help the topic. So, what is your opinion on RA?

Edit: I'm actually flattered that I get such scrutiny, but if you're going to take a little pot shot at least do something with the discussion IMO ;).

RA is arbitrary for sure..it have no resource logic behind it. I personally dont like anything implemented that way.
Like maritime food (just to make a point) : a small CS can supply food for all cities of a giant empire.
So in RA it doesnt quite matter the size or scientific inclination of the nation your making an agreement with...wich is dumb.

Im really enjoying civ5, probably more then i should be considering all the time im spending playing...but it does seem like too many issues on the game were rushed by and have little or no tought behind it.

Whoaaa chillax. :( I thought you'd get a laugh out of it. I was sorely mistaken. My apologies.

So do you sign multiple RAs in one turn or do you only get one RA per turn?

So do you sign multiple RAs in one turn or do you only get one RA per turn?

I generally space them out for several reasons:

- The game isn't going to let you have more than two techs anyway, so signing more than two in a turn isn't going to accelerate things
- Resolving RAs lets you push further up the tree, increasing the value of the next RA
- Spreading them out lets you renew most deals before era jumps, keeping costs down

You don't lose beakers, but the game is slow about handing over techs if you get too many beakers stacked up.

There's no doubt that RAs are now more powerful on an individual basis, though they're not very strong until about halfway through the game. Some of the things you can do with the tree now are pretty crazy. The two standouts are using Navigation, Chemistry and Metallurgy to drag you up through the middle of the tree, and using Modern techs to bomb your way through Renaissance and Industrial techs.
