Excuse me?
War has always been a political tool, and most of the time it is fought over resources or territory. Even when Ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia were fighting over the Levant, it always came down to the resources they were trying to gain.
Although, since most wars have a large number of causes, there may be one or two that were fought over cultural fear, I can honestly say that I cannot think of a single war that was started because one culture didn't understand the other.
As for who will be the next superpower...I honestly think we've seen the end of the age of superpowers. The United States is no longer the powerhouse it once was, and even if it was, there's no opposing force. I believe we honestly are at the dawning of the era of the global village.
(On a side note, in order to be a superpower in this day and age requires four things: a large military, the ability to deploy them anywhere in the world at will, a large territory with lots of natural resources, and a strong economy. While several countries have the military and the economy, pretty much the only nations with the geography to pull it off are Canada, the United States, and Russia. China and India are both landlocked and only have access to one ocean. And, Russia isn't interested in another Cold War.)
