IHT: We can trade
Why didn't we do so? That is the way to survive! France gives us engineering AND theology for furs and 32 gpt!
I swap a couple of laborers to commercial tiles - instead of shields for new hoplites-. This raises our income to 27 gpt.
IT: Egypt takes Zariqum from the Babylonians. Izibia is now an isolated Babylonian enclave SW of Athens. I think about taking that, either from the Egyptians or the Babylonians... Massive troop movement of the English trough our lands... Impossible to take Norwich at the moment.
Turn 1 (560 AD) I try to buy Invention from France for 30 gpt and 38 gold. We're close to a deal. After disbanding three warrior I can close the deal for 33 gpt and 30 gold.
8 gold and 1 gpt.
IT: Babylon seems to be at war with everyone! This is GOOD. But we still have a deal with them for 10 turns. After that we might be thinking about joining the party.
Turn 2 (570 AD) I move 5 MI's to Izibia and Zariqum.
9 gold and 3 gpt.
IT: China declares war on Egypt. Egypt wants us to join the war against Babylon, I refuse. I don't re-negotiate our Ivory deal with Egypt. I DO re-negotiate our spices deal with France and now pay 9 gpt and 5 gold plus world map. Egypt also takes Ibizia. I figured we need the two former Babylonian cities ourselves, so I decide to go to war vs Egypt soon.
Turn 3 (580 AD) I have to hire a few taxmen and push lux to 10% to prevent cities from rioting. England gets 5 gold from us.
We make -1 gpt and have 10 gold.
Turn 4 (590 AD) -1 gpt and 9 gold. We are strong compared to Babylon, but we can't attack anyway.
IT: Egypt also conquers Samarra. Babylon is doomed.
Turn 5 (600 AD) Second Egyptian war :soldier: ! I move in the troops.
- 3 gpt and 8 gold.
IT: Our hoplite in Mycenae manages to stay alive vs an Egyptian war chariot. We enter the Golden Age
England is also very busy with beating up the Babylonians.
Turn 6 (610 AD) We now make 69 gpt
And after a bit of World map trading we have enough to get an embassy in Paris. We are able to buy gunpowder from them for 38 gpt, 4 gold and World Map. The French are our best friends
I see that India and England lack Chemistry !!! We have one source of saltpeter.
I conquer Izibia without losses by beating up two Egyptian cavs.
0 gold and 25 gpt.
IT: Russia established an embassy in Athens and the Egyptians still didn't start a counter-attack.
Turn 7 (620 AD) After dropping lux to 0% and disbanding 2 warriors, I am able to buy Chemistry from France for 59 gpt and 18 gold. I decide not to do it, because we can't afford such a big deficit.
No upgrades possible, so I give away 15 gold to China. They go gracious.
10 gold and 25 gpt.
IT: England conquers Shuruppak from the Babylonians. This ends our trade deal with Babylon. Does it also end our spotless rep?
China and Russia team up vs Babylon.
Turn 8 (630 AD) We lose our luxury from Babylon and I have to hire clowns. Meanwhile I capture Zariqum without losses.
I get silks from China for 10 gpt, 40 gold and world map. Guess we didn't get a rep hit when the Babylon route was cut off.
We have 10 gold and make 25 gpt.
Turn 9 (640 AD) Nothing much. Troops move to Samarra. Still nothing useful to do with the money, so 19 gold goes to India.
We have 10 gold and make 24 gpt.
Turn 10 (650 AD) Samarra captured!
Sparta switched to settler, we must try to grab that wine SW of Samarra! I make peace with Egypt for Chemistry and 36 gpt, 25 gold in return. We trade Egypt Iron and 5 gpt for Metallurgy. England still doesn't have Chemistry, so I trade it for Education, 13 gold and territory map. India wants Metallurgy and gives us Astronomy, Music Theory, territory map and 2 gold. England gives Banking and territory map for it.
We have 25 gold and make -10 gpt.
Next one up: you decide what to do with the 15 gold with which we overran our budget. I'd suggest to send a settler SW of Samarra ASAP to grab that wine. We also might think about joining the war vs the Babylonians, if there's still something left of them when we near their cities, that is. We could get a MA with France vs Babylon...
PS. Sorry for being so negative before !!
