The Non-Midas Touch, Deity Variant, 1.21PTW

if you enter their borders first and then declare war, that will not affect our gpt reputation, but it will affect ROP reputation, and it will worsen other civs' attitudes, so it would indeed be better to declare war first, rather than sneak attack

EDIT: something I wanted to add about Krys' turn for future reference, if we get a large lump sum of gold, such as 38g, it may be better to try to found an embasssy with someone rather than give it away

We should (have to) pop rush the temple in Pharsalos ASAP guys ;)

IHT: I declare WAR on Egypt :soldier:

IT: India want 10 gold and our tm, I give in. England moves a lot of troops towards Egypt

Turn 1 (330 BC) I position the troops and capture an Egyptian worker. Temple rushed in Pharsalos.

Turn 2 (310 BC) Not a lot of luck while trying to capture Buto. Two horses get killed and the last spear is red-lined. Lisht falls though, without losses and a promotion to elite for an archer [dance]

NMTLisht.jpg

IT: The Russians and French are building Sun Tzu. The Egyptians drop a vet spear in Buto :( Also an archer next to Lisht

Turn 3 (290 BC) The Egyptian archer is killed by one of ours.

IT: The Russians and Egyptians build Leo

Turn 4 (270 BC) A sword and an archer move the Buto. I buy Literature from the French for 5 gpt, 2 gold and wm.

IT: The Babs and French build Leo

Turn 5 (250 BC) Buto is ours [party]

Hot5Buto.jpg

An archer dies, but we had enough forces to kill the two hoplites. Cleo doesn't want to talk to us.

Turn 6 (230 BC) I tried everything I could, but the best deal is peace for Map Making and 23 gold. 2 techs were just too expensive since I gave away money two turns ago.

IT: English troops move back to their territory now Egypt has no cities on this continent anymore :D

Turn 7 (210 BC) Mathematics bought from France for 3 gpt and 42 gold (that I forgot about in the last turn  )

Turn 8 (190 BC) Temple rushed in Sparta.

Turn 9 (170 BC) Athens: sword->sword. Delphi: worker->temple. Sparta: temple->sword. Temple rushed in Corinth.

IT: Egypt finishes the Hanging Gardens in Byblos.

Turn 10 (150 BC) Corinth: temple->hoplite.

We have 15 gold and make 3gpt.

150 BC save

excellente.

Maybe we should go for a builder phase now, get some harbours, courthouses, and libraries going; markets and aqueducts when we get the techs.

I think we will have to go to war again a little later, to take some cities either from the English or the Babs. Perhaps a war with knights?

Stuck is up now, Meli on deck

I think that we have to rush the temples near the English and Babylonian borders. And the libraries only cost us money, we will not be able to keep up in tech. Imho we need marketplaces.

EDIT: We may need libraries for culture near our borders.

Aggie, I was thinking libraries for the culture, not for research, so we can get the border expansions. You suggest temples, but libraries are cheaper for us because we're scientific.

Non-Midas Touch Turns. Building While Broke.
IT: The Temples are changed to Libraries. Knoss is whipped to get to 1.
T1: Thermo builds Library, Starts Harbor. Knoss builds Library, Starts Harbor. Babs start Leos and Sun Tuz...
T2: Nada
T3: Sparta builds Sword, starts Harbor
T4: Thebes builds Art of War. Did I ever mention that this game is depressing?
T5: French start Sistines
T6: Nil
T7: Pharlos builds sword.
T8: THis is just depressing. I wish one of the other empires would just come and attack us already...
T9: Joan finally wants that warrior stationed in there out. It will take to long, so I'll wait next turn for the auto move.
T10: All around me is darkness and despair... Athens builds Harbor, starts Library. Nexy turn Joan will most likely give the auto move. Treasury is 16g, -1gpt.

The Depressing Save

whoa, easy now Stuck!

What do you find so depressing? The fact that we're really far behind? Or that we're in a bit of a hole? Or is it the variant? :(

BTW, speaking of the variant, can we all please try to stick slightly more closely to the 10g guideline. At the end of Aggie's turn we had 15g, end of Stuck's, 16g - we're within the spirit of the rules there, but why not give away a few pennies so we're back to 10g, such a nice round number? :)

Meli....UP NOW
Skyfish.....ON DECK

Meli,

I know you've been busy with some heroic exploits in GOTM! If you could get to this today, that would be great, otherwise, it might be worthwhile letting Skyfish take it if you don;t think you'll have time shortly...

Preturn - I take a look around, things aint so bad... So everyone is annoyed at us except the Egyptians and they is Furious (Dang where is the BA smiley when you need him?) Anyway we have 16 gold (tut-tut stuck...) so I sell our WM around and looky here if I ask the Indians what they want for Polytheism they say Furs and 5 gold! Not bad matey, we'll take it. Well thats one civ down to Cautious. Now let's see what happens when we give out surplus cash to the Babs... 9 gold still leaves them Annoyed. Sheesh what do they want? Blood? Oops rather not think about that... Hey this looks like Automated workers around Athens :horror: This is a nono no? Also working existing tiles we make a nice and healthy 10spt, and that aint even using the funky mined hills. Anyway most of them workers are slapped conscious again and have their borg implants removed, think dudes! A few are left as they finish their mines next turn. Also what's this? Both grassland squares to the east of Delphi are mined? How is we gonna get the irrigation to the East? Chopping the forest will be an option, but I'm gonna go :saiyan: if it reveals Bonus Grassland. Also whats with the Maginot line on the Babylon border? Have you seen how many Bab troops there are there? Wanna give em an excuse? Lets send them puppies back to their Barracks. Oh they just got there? OK next turn then... Ho hum.. 10gold as it should be ;) Let's hit return shall we?

IT - Chinese are building Sistines Chapel...

Turn 1 - ( 50AD) - Workers moved en masse to Delphi, other workers get started on the Gold mine outside Corinth. Various troops moved back to their barracks on the Babylon Front. Hmm we could sell our last Furs to the French for a different lux and Currency... What are the chances of Babylon not declaring war on us in the next 20 turns? Too good an offer and we need the Marketplaces. I do it. ***PLEASE NOTE EVERYONE! WE MUST BE NICE TO BABYLON*** In fact the deal becomes even sweeter when I realise that we can get Spices, Currency, 8 gold and 3GPT! Sheesh... What a gal. The French are now polite ;) So now we are doing +2gpt, I gift Babylon 2 gpt and 13 gold that we have spare. We are too rich anyway  They remain annoyed :(

IT - Dangit Franch demands we remove our warrior and goes annoyed again :saiyan: , wow our warrior is teleported 1 square west of Thermo. Groovy MP number 2. Chinese complete Leonardos :(

Turn 2 - ( 70AD) - Corinth Hoplite -> Library. Workers head for forest chop east of Delphi.

Turn 3 - ( 90AD) - Sparta Harbor -> Marketplace. Athens Library switched to Marketplace. Corinth citizen switched to the roaded Gold on the river, we now run at -1 gpt. Gift the babs 6 gold. still annoyed :hmm:

Turn 4 - (110AD) - Thermo Harbor -> Marketplace. Workers improve lands around Sparta. Gift the Babs 1 gold, bad map trading round.

Turn 5 - (130AD) - Delphi Library -> Marketplace. A 5gpt deal with the French expires and we now run at +3gpt! Gift the babs 5 gold. still annoyed.

IT - Russians complete Sistine.

Turn 6 - (150AD) - Buto Library -> Galley (I want a sea to other civs). 7 gold to the Babs. still annoyed.

Turn 7 - (170AD) - Yawn, watch the English and Babylonian troops mill around at the border, my advisor tells me that the Babs have Knights but I aint seen any. 9 gold to Babs. still annoyed.

Turn 8 - (190AD) - Hmm another deal expires and we now run at +7gpt. 10 gold to babs, still annoyed...

Turn 9 - (210AD) - Argos Library -> Harbor. 11 gold to Babs. Still annoyed.

Turn 10 - (230AD) - Athens Marketplace -> Galley. Galley at Buto changed to Temple as its coming under Cultural pressure from the damn Egyptians. Hmm I set an scientist in Thermo and drop Lux tax by 20% to 20%. We now do 18gpt and it will only take one extra turn to build the Marketplace in Thermo. Now I dont know if I been at the Meths but I Trade the Indians 15gpt and 16 gold for Construction. They remain cautious but we have now entered the Middle Ages! We get monotheism as our free tech and we have 10 turns until republic. This dont look so bad now does it.

And that was that.

We have 5 gold and are doing 3 gpt. We have some commitments to other races, most notably a Furs trade to India for 10 turns and Furs to France for 11 turns. Sorry about this Skyfish but war against the Babs is a big nono. Not that we would have a chance. Once we get our galley out I suggest that you head west and establish a trade route by sea.

What I have picked up here...

Our advisor tells us that the Babs and Chinese have betrayed our friends the Egyptians  and that the English have betrayed our friends the Babylonians
Who has been fighting who heh :groucho:

Also Babs has Knights and the French have the Musketeer...

Everyone has all the techs we could research and at least Babs has Civalry and the French have Gunpowder. China has at least invention as they built Leos.

Trade trade trade guys, maps, resources, anything just keep paying Hammurabi every turn.

WE MUST NOT GO TO WAR WITH THE BABS FOR AT LEAST 11 TURNS - Keep them happy in any way possible.

Melifluous

The Save - Cheer Up Guys We are in the Middle Ages

excellent! Once we have some markets and get to republic our economy will skyrocket.

Speaking of skyrockets, it's time for Skyfish to step forward :D
