Talking about the abundance of variables: We were getting OOS in our last game too, with an increasing frequency. The reason was an overheating graphics card. After cooling it down with a ventilator everything went smooth again.

I actually think that the graphics engine is the main source of OOS. Probably there are very short timeouts and one of the players can easily cause an OOS for example with Burning Lands.
Btw in our last game (032d), no OOS ever, not even from Guild of Hammers and City of Thousands Slums. It may even depend on who founds them.
Internet for sure adds to the OOS from my experience. I think the variables are so many and most of them simply can't be fixed. That's typical of online gaming ^^
Some of you are saying that OOS are due to internet or cpu (pc) but don't forget that there are no OOS when you play to BTS or Civ IV (except those minors one that need only a reload to restart correctly).
So i think we need to focus on FFH2 to find the different reasons and put aside the internet/hardware problems. Thank you.
