The Quest for Culture (QfC) - An ex-n00b Production

Ok, I don't see anything to change, so lets go. Hopefully we can wait this 12 turns to get CoL before finishing the Oracle, I wouldn't want to miss out at this point.

Turn 4 - I think AK's idea to chop the parthenon is a good one. I'll try it at the city in the south.

Turn 7 - I start on a settler in Delhi as a placeholder for the Oracle. 6 turns now for CoL.

Turn 12 - I take open borders with Elizabeth.

Turn 13 - We get CoL. Oracle will be in next turn for CS. :) Confuciaism is founded in Delhi. We're getting a really good start on culture here. Start on AH.

Turn 14 - Ok, I forgot to change to Oracle last turn, so it will be one more turn. I woulda felt really stupid had that cost us.

Turn 15 - Oracle and CS in. I revolt to beauraucracy. How do you spell that word? :( I revolt to representation while I'm at it.

Turn 16 - Open Borders with Khan.

Turn 19 - AH in. Next is pottery.

Turn 23 - Pottery, cottages! Next is Iron.

Turn 24 - Parthenon in Copper City. We can farm all that grassland there too if we want, or just cottage it. We also get a Prophet in Delhi. I use it for the Hindu shrine.

Turn 30 - So that's it. We've got a couple of settler/warrior pairs at spots I think would be ok for cities. There aren't really any great spots left. Good luck Pling.

lurker's comment: With all that grassland laying around and no river (so no bonus gold), Copper site is just crying out to be a Great Person Farm. Since you guys already have the Partheon, just put the National Epic there for 150% bonus and farm the lot, untill the city is at it's max and then put everything into specialists (maybe even go for Pacifism? Or try and start spamming Great Artists (Nat.Epic provides GreatArtists) , since you guys are going for cultural victory, in which case you need to grab Drama. Globe Theatre would be a good 2nd national wonder (also gives Great Artists) as this city is probably going to grow quite big after biology.

I enjoy reading this thread a lot, I hope you guys don't mind my humble ideas here and there...

Got it! :)

Yay for more wonders :D We seem to be off to a flying start.

Yeah you read it right. I really couldn't believe how well that turnset went! :D

N0xie's thinking on the copper city was the same as mine. Farm it to oblivion and get as many great artists out of it as we can. The more of those we get, the quicker we can get culture....great works can add up fast if we do it right.

I really couldn't believe how well that turnset went!
Tis all in the set up by the prior player. ;)

I'd like to own that barb city in the NW to use as Military Production City... can we spare 4-6 axes to go kickbooti?

It is it is. :) :p

We can surely spare those axes, though we will have to build them. I don't think I built any military except for the warrior escorts for the settlers during my whole turnset.

the open borders are to keep the AI happy? I didn't grant them cause I didnt want settler trios wandering through our lands.

Yeah exactly. I was focusing almost not at all on military, so I wanted to keep them happy. Besides, not that I thought about it while I was playing, the culture from the three current cities we have is so overwhelming they'd have to found in the crappy desert to the west to not flip. If I remember, there are a couple cities that should flip to us soon as well.

I've played my turns - but I don't have time to sort the report out till tomorrow morning. Just so you know what's going on and that I've not forgotten you all ;)

Turn 0 (180AD):
All looks well with the world :) Though we're appallingly short on the military side of things ... I think a goal of mine is to ramp up our army. I'm also going to settle those cities asap, we need to grow and we could do with 9 cities in the long-term for cathedrals. On that note we also need to start spreading our religions about a bit.

Bombay founded, starts work on a Library.

IBT: Washington wants us to convert to Judaism, I refuse as it's currently not good for us - but it may be worth doing later when we've got more Jewish cities.

Turn 1 (200AD):
Madras founded & it starts on a courthouse.
I also switch Bombay to a courthouse too - it's more useful sooner than the library would be.

IBT: Tubs barely, but barely, fights off a barb archer.
And Livy tells us how much our power sucks ;)

Also - Freddy asks for Open Borders & I grant them - same reasoning as Chriseay, need to keep them sweet while we're so weak.

Turn 2 (210AD):
Turn 3 (220AD):
Iron Working discovered -> Fishing (we now have 2 cities that need those water tiles).
Science rate down now, to 70%
Igor starts farming over all around Copper City
Igor II starts building a road to Madras.

IBT: The Khan wants us to stop talking to the English. I'm more worried about pissing off the English as they're closer, so I refuse. Which may not have been wise. And thinking about this later - I think was confused about who our neighbours were and it's Freddy right next to us, not Lizzy :(
Cyrus wants & gets Open Borders, keep 'em sweet!

Turn 4 (230AD):
Turn 5 (240AD):
Delhi builds a Courthouse & starts on an Axe

TUrn 6 (250AD):
Fishing -> Alphabet
Thinking about Music here, need Alpha for that, also might be able to pick up some of the early techs for a pittance, who knows.

Realise I didn't check where Iron was - it's in Madras' city radius & it's near the barbs, so we'll have 2 sources in a bit.

Turn 7 (260AD):
Sadan's Castle finishes a courthouse & starts an Axe

The Khan declares on Cyrus, nearly giving me heart failure when the fanfare starts up ;)

Science rate back up to 80%.

Turn 8 (270AD):
Turn 9 (280AD):
Turn 10 (290AD):
Delhi: Axe -> Axe, fortified it in Delhi

Science rate back up to 90%

Turn 11 (300AD):
Sadan's Castle: Axe -> Fast Worker (fortified Axe)

Washington is now Hindu and pleased with us :)

Igor sets off to build roads to Bombay

IBT: Cyrus wants us to break up with the Khan ... I really dont wanna piss off the Khan, so I refuse.

Turn 12 (310AD):
Copper City: Courthouse -> Axe

IBT: I refuse to join the Khan in beating up Cyrus.

Turn 13 (320AD):
Igor II starts to hook up the Madras pigs

Turn 14 (330AD):
Turn 15 (340AD):
Sadan's Castle: Fast Worker -> Jewish Missionary
Delhi: Axe -> Axe, and this Axe goes to Madras

Igor III starts to build cottages round Sadan's Castle

Turn 16 (350AD):
Madras' borders pop (Bombay's did last turn), iron is in our borders :)

Turn 17 (360AD):
Copper City: Axe -> Confucian Missionary (axe fortified)

Turn 18 (370AD):
Turn 19 (380AD):
Sadan's Castle: Jewish Missionary -> Jewish Missionary (Sent to Delhi)
Delhi: Axe -> Axe (sent to Bombay)

Turn 20 (390AD):

IBT: Lizzy wants Code of Laws ... and is offering Meditation, Mathematics & Hunting. I take it.

Turn 21 (400AD):
We're back up to 100% science ... clearly we're not big enough.

Turn 22 (410AD):
Sadan's Castle: Jewish Missionary -> Jewish Missionary (sent to Copper City)
Copper City: Confucian Missionary -> Confucian Missionary (sent to SAdan's Castle)

Turn 23 (420AD):
Alphabet -> Literature
Delhi: Axe -> Axe (sent to wait outside the barb city)

IBT: Damnit. Lost Igor to a barb archer I didn't spot :(

Turn 24 (430AD):
I get Sadan's Castle making a Fast Worker to replace Igor.

Turn 25 (440AD):
Turn 26 (450AD):
Igor II starts building a road to the Iron.

IBT: Washington offers us Archery for Polytheism, but that doesn't look like a good deal to me.

Turn 27 (460AD):
Turn 28 (470AD):
Delhi: Axe -> Axe (sending him off to the barb city)
Copper City: Confucian Missionary -> Confucian Missionary (Sending him off to Bombay)

Turn 29 (480AD):
Sadan's CAstle: Fast Worker -> Jewish Missionary (sent off to start building road to Bombay again)

Turn 30 (490AD):
Sadan's Castle: Jewish Missionary -> Jewish Missionary (heading towards Madras)

No great 'gosh-wow' acheivements in this turnset, but I've made good progress with building up an army:

And I've made a solid start on spreading our religions between our cities:

And next turn Literature comes in, so we could start researching Music and I think we're in with a good chance at the free artist.

Finally, have a roster:

BeefontheBone (Skip till he has a shiny new graphics card to make us all jealous)
AK (Up!)
Chriseay (On deck)
Pling (Just finished)
Sadan (Skip till he's got a shiny new PC to make us all jealous)

We're down to 10 turns each now, yeah?

http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/Quest_for_Culture_AD-0650.Civ4SavedGame

Probably we should go to Caste ASAP. I'm thinking we're going to be taking at least one barb city, and if we have to some cities from else where. Plus, we need to run artists hardcore somewhere to start popping them out, the more we get the sooner we can get three cities where they need to be. We'll probably wanna farm the heck out of copper city and do artists there.

That's what I was thinking.

We need more workers. and maces. and cultural buildings. and wonders. :crazyeye:

Need need need need need. All you do is need! ;)

Is it my turn?

Yeah, I'd agree with Caste ASAP & farming artists at Copper City :agree:

I'd say something more intelligent but I think all the  I drank last night staged a coup in the middle of the night & replaced my brain with cotton wool. :shake:
