The questions-not-worth-their-own-thread question thread IV

What's a good Rome Total War mod? 1700s preferably.

If you want a 1700s TW game, then play ETW when it comes out in a month. :p But on a more serious note, Napoleonic Total War (2) is supposed to be okay for that era. I personally prefer the classical era mods, of which Europa Barbarorum and Rome: Total Realism are the best.

Are you seriously asking that?

If so, you should know that for example gold is used in almost all precise electronics... Like your cell phone or my (new! :D) audio card.

Actually, thinking about it, it's used in all electronic devices I can think of.
Also, minute layers of gold can be used to strengthen glass, as in the cockpit windows of aeroplanes, or to keep out radiation, as in the visors of space-helmets.

Although, in Total Realism, combat typically ranges from frustrating to infuriating if you're not too into the whole "realism" thing. Troops kill each painfully slowly and tire out painfully quickly. More tactical, but also less fun...

That's one of the reasons I like EB. (EB also doesn't ridiculously overpower Macedonia, as RTR does, with the gigantic number of cities in Greece and the Aegean littoral.)

Can anyone solve a Rubicks cube and give me some tips?

I was not sure about extremely long threads' effect on forum performance so I asked Jelsoft (vBulletin developer). Here's their reply:
There are no performance issues since the posts in a thread are never called up all at once (unless the thread is shorter than the posts per page setting). Some people have threads with 10,000 or more replies.
:hmm: Surely we haven't regressed technologically since 2002... In the past I supported the 1000 posts per thread rule but now not so much seeing as how it evidently doesn't slow down response time at all.

A thought on company policy...
Company Policy

Start with a cage containing five monkeys. Inside the cage, hang a banana on a string and place a set of stairs under it. Before long, a monkey will go to the stairs and start to climb towards the banana. As soon as he touches the stairs, spray all of the other monkeys with cold water. After a while, another monkey makes an attempt with the same result; all the other monkeys are sprayed with cold water.

Pretty soon, when another monkey tries to climb the stairs, the other monkeys will try to prevent it. Now, put away the cold water. Remove one monkey from the cage and replace it with a new one. The new monkey sees the banana and wants to climb the stairs. To his surprise and horror, all of the other monkeys attack him. After another attempt and attack, he knows that if he tries to climb the stairs, he will be assaulted.

Next, remove another of the original five monkeys and replace it with a new one. The newcomer goes to the stairs and is attacked. The previous newcomer takes part in the punishment with enthusiasm! Likewise, replace a third original monkey with a new one, then a fourth, then the fifth. Every time the newest monkey takes to the stairs, he is attacked. Most of the monkeys that are beating him have no idea why they are not permitted to climb the stairs or why they are participating in the beating of the newest monkey.

After replacing all of the original monkeys, none of the remaining monkeys have ever been sprayed with cold water. Nevertheless, no monkey every again approaches the stairs to try for the banana. Why not? Because as far as they know that's the way it's always been done around here. And that, my friends, is how a company policy begins.

oh, battles can be over quite quickly if you know how to utilise your army... :mischief:(i mean horde, but after reading that type... bwahahaha )

I like it, it's tactical, and very rewarding when you beat off an horse with a small garrizon and get a heroic victory. :D

bwah, makes all the more fun for someone else to invade them. Last game, macedonia got destroyed by the greeks and thracians, and i have entered the scene as liberator of the acheans as roma, and am curruntly pushing back the thracians after a grand sweeping campaign in greece and macedonia., defending vs the seleucids and trying to get byzantion, and having an enormous laugh at germany's attempt at invasion.

Is it anyhow dangerous to consume chlorine high pool water?

If you accidentally get a swallow from time to time, it shouldn't do you any harm. But you wouldn't want to drink that much regularly.

This is true. If you drink a tonne of it, you can get chlorine poisoning, which I imagine is not exactly good for you. Although you'd have to down an awful lot of it, or the pool would have to be so full of chlorine it was impossible to swim in anyway.

(italics represent stress)
Reh-pon-deh seel voo ple (with a short E like in "bed" at the end)

Actually, another way of putting it:

Re-pon-de seel voo ple (with the bolded Es being short like in the English word "bed")

Does anyone else use the word "google" as a verb? If you do, how do you spell the act of using google? (Like run is to running)

Googling? Googleing?
