Riddle me this, OT!

Where may I go to collect information regarding the neighborhoods (or whatever random districts may be assigned) of the Twin Cities and the surrounding metro area? Demographic info, area-specific maps (very preferable), crime stats, things in the area, and pictures (a plus).

If it were New York City, it'd be mostly unnecessary since I have a feel for most areas in this wide city, but admittedly, some of these neighborhood names are foreign (to me) and I can't quite piece them together with the overall map of the metro area. Gotta learn somehow. Once I know the areas, I can easily combine that knowledge with things like the transit maps and major roads and so forth, but I gotta know what I'm looking at, first.

Multiple sites are fine if they can complement each other or overlap.

If you're talking about twin cities as in st paul minneapolis which I assume you are, you can mostly just stay in the southern part of the cities and southern suburbs and be pretty safe and in good neighborhoods. That being said I lived right in downtown of both cities and I've never had any problems with anyone. Sure there are your street walkers, but they are pretty good people. I used to go walking around in the early moring in minneapolis and no one gave me any crap.

In my experience though the more south you go, the better things look. I don't know your economic status but Minnetonka, and Edina are both pretty nice places. Eden Prarie, and chaska are nice too.

"Sprechen wir Deutsch!" - perhaps "Let's speak German now". It's an imperative, also indicated by the exclamation mark. "Wir sprechen deutsch!" is not.

It's also common to remove shoes when entering a house here. Kinda disgusting when the workman who comes to fix the stove and has smelly feet takes off his shoes as if he's doing you a facor to smear his smelly socks all over your floor. I'd rather have good clean dirt off the bottom of your shoes actually.

Yep, that's what I meant, though it looks more likely that I'd live in Minneapolis rather than St. Paul. But if I had to work in St. Paul, it doesn't look like too big of a deal to get there.

I could afford plenty of places in south metro, but the problem would be that I won't have a vehicle for a while. Thus, I need to be within the transit system and hopefully a fairly quick ride downtown, at that. It may be that I would be shacking up at my girlfriend's place (with her parents) in Burnsville, but they're actually not far from catching a bus to the Mall of America and from there, the light rail.

I've been looking to set a limit of what I currently pay in rent ($900/month) and it looks like I can get some fairly decent, if small, places near Loring Park. Not that my current place is large by any standards, but I will have to measure it to get a comparison.
