The Riddles Thread

She may not be an icecream cone, but she is a frumpy old bat in a head scarf.

I'm not sure an icecream cone wouldn't be preferable.

Our monarchy may not be perfect but at least our Queen isn't an ice cream cone. I mean, honestly, how can you possibly have this thing as your Head of State?!?! It's just embarrassing.

That's not our head of state

Your NHS Tax Credit Exemption card and your disabled person's bus pass?

I don't have the former and the second still needs renewing.

Is there such a thing as the first? And I've never heard of the second. I've tried getting on a bus twice in the last twenty years. And I've got to say you've got to be pretty able-bodied to survive the experience.

Ooh, look, it does exist! Well I never. What kind of things is it useful for, though? You'll get free prescriptions anyway according to your claim for disability benefit, and other things will be free at the point of delivery under the NHS. So does it cover you for treatment that's only available privately? (I can't think what that might be.) Or maybe for a life-time supply of incontinence pads?

In my case, it gives me free sight tests and discounts on spectacles and filling prescriptions (but not over-the-counter stuff).

Disabled persons metro passes are available through your local metro and valid for free off peak bus travel throughout England (9.30-23.00 mon-Fri, all day sat sun).

I got one a while back on the basis of not being allowed to drive for medical reasons, but I couldn't be bothered renewing it every 12 months, and you also need new evidence for each reapplication.

Busses actually trigger my vertigos and I avoid them if I can.

I have Cyclizine now but I didn't find it effective. Stemetil used to work great, but now I cant take it because it has a serious interaction with venlafaxine.

Venlafaxine increases the potency of Stemetil which is also addictive with severe withdrawal symptoms, and can also cause death via neuroleptic malignant shock if too much is had, or if combined with alcohol.

Much nope. Those are also the reasons I previously stopped taking it.

And then there's betahistines, which cause gastrointestinal disturbance as a side effect. Combined with IBS or what might be IBD, it caused extremely severe pain and cramping, so that's a nope too.
