The Rise & Fall of The Mughals ~ v2 ~

This scenario is a true work of art.:hatsoff: to its creators.
In fact it is so fascinating that I am involved in two games with it at the moment. I am trying a cultural win with the Safavids;, and I just started one with Bengal where I am much less peaceful.
I hope I will eventually be able to report a win, but don't sit on the edge of your chairs wating for that...

Well, I just recently pulled it up. This scenerio is great, and it is really addicting. I played it for about one and a half hours. :D

Thanks for the kind words folks. Much appreciated and it's most pleasing to hear you're having fun.

If you require any advice on your in-game strategies feel free to ask away. If you want any more historical info on any of the elements of the game, likewise, ask away!

Luc: I'm confident you'll carve out two victories with both those civs. That is if you 'stay the course'

What is it with the "Delhi Belly?" It just goes on and on and on... I started to get dizzy from watching those circling crows for the entire game. :crazyeye:

I understand your concerns my friend. Please bear this in mind:

a) Famine was a reality back then and it got worse, not better, under British rule (see 'pedia).
b) It doesn't last all game.
c) It's not that powerful, you'll find that not many of your troops will die of it.

I appreciate it's hardly a happiness enducing feature but it's there for good reason. Do please post your comments and opinions on improving it, if you can see some. I'd be happy to streamline it even further for another version.

EDIT: Perhaps someone can teach me how to change the plague graphics?

Perhaps there's a glitch? I just finished a game (EIC/v2) where the DB started around turn twenty and lasted unbroken until the game finished at turn 138! It ultimately affected around half of my cities and caused the loss of one unit per city every other turn.

Fortunately, DB also affected my enemies and most of them didn't have any auto-producers cranking out cannon fodder.

7ronin's experience sounds decidedly anomalous ... you haven't been meddling with the scenario properties, have you? I've played a number of games, and never seen anything like that.

One thing the Delhi Belly did teach me, tho, is that the plague can kill off individual units within an Army.

I haven't had time to play the new version properly, but a bit of playing as the Bengalis (since I discovered Rabindranath Tagore recently) has shown a lot of promise. I expected to be impressed by this one graphically, but still was very pleasantly surprised as soon as I booted it up - lovely terrain graphics, and all the unit graphics etc seem very well chosen. It all looks really excellent, and as before, the size of the map, the starting cities, starting units etc all seem very well balanced and playable. A class act all round, I think.

Heaven forbid. I was playing the game just the way it was given to us by its creator.

What's your advice then sir?
I have none considering that my experience seems to be unique. I will report back after my next game.

hello - this looks great but i am having a problem getting this to run - sorry if this is wrong forum

here is the issue - the process runs fine through config player, then AI, then colors, then fails configuring scenario with missing file

/art/units/King Ahab/../sounds/Casting.wav

any assistance would be greatly appreciated
thanks

I am happy to note that in the new version it is now possible to dislodge the French, Dutch, and Pirates off their island bastions. Before there was just no way to force them off the small islands.

I've noticed that the AI for some reason fails to build a city on "Banana Island" south of Batavia. If you get there first then you can establish a base you can use to attack the Dutch to the north and the pirates to the south.

I'd just like to say that I've spent all of my free day from school playing this scenario as the Mughals and I loved it.

I've retained my hold on Northern India, but I control Calcutta and Pondacherry.
I've also destroyed Vijayanagara from the game, they were quite weak. The Mughal Calvary is great, it's quite efficient in the later game. Like 7ronin, I've seen lots of "Dehli Belly," especially in Indian culture group cities I capture. Right now, only Kabul and Lahore have it in my main area.

I would just like to say thank you so much for making this scenario.

There could be several reasons. It's possible that you had a faulty download or a faulty extract of the zipped files. In which case you just have to try again.

Or it may be that you have a zip problem. Sometimes when you unzip a file you end up with the folders you want inside an extra folder. For example, Rise of Mughals 2 would be inside another folder named Rise of Mughals 2. If this is what happened you need to get rid of the outer folder.

It may also be that you have installed the files wrong. Here's what the file hierarchy should look like. Yours may look a little different depending on which version of Conquests you are running.

C drive
Folder: Program Files
Folder: Firaxis Games
Folder: Civilization III Complete
Folder: Conquests Folder: Scenarios
Folder: Rise of Mughals 2 (this folder contains the following three files)
1. Folder: Art
2. Folder: Text
3. Text File: Mughals Credits

Hope this helps.

thanks for the update - here is my path

C:\Program Files\Atari\Civilization III\Conquests\Scenarios\Rise of Mughal 2>ls
Art Text
Mughals Credits.txt sounds

for this error
"/art/units/King Arab/../sounds/Casting.wav"

is there supposed to be a sounds sub-directory
in the individual units directories?

i will try the download again
thanks for the help

When it comes to sound files I am totally clueless. I will have to defer to our leader, the Funky President. Sir?

Damn! Sorry for the delay. Seems my subscription to the thread dropped out and I didn't get the notifications. Thanks for helping out in my absence 7ronin. :goodjob:

oradba: I'm a little perplexed as to why this problem is happening. There is no 'King Arab' or 'King Ahab' in this game. Can you see such a folder in your Art/Units folder? If so, something went wrong in the DL process because nothing has been named as such and nothing had that name before. So I'm wondering what this is.

I recommend you:

- DL it again, just in case things got corrupted.
- Check that you have the most up-to-date version of Win RAR (not Win zip)
- Try again

Also, your path is stated as:
C:\Program Files\Atari\Civilization III\Conquests\Scenarios\Rise of Mughal 2>ls

But what's that "ls" on the end? Your path for each set of Unit sounds should be:
C:\Program Files\Atari\Civilization III\Conquests\Scenarios\Rise of Mughal 2\Art\Units\Name of Unit

Each units that requires custom sounds should have some mp3s in there. Other units will reference the standard sounds. (This is all quite separate to the musical soundtrack btw).

Please report back if you succeeded in getting round whatever this is. There's something unique going on for you. And of course, do post back if you're still having problems. Good luck!

AlCosta15: Thanks for the feedback. Modders are like doggies really. You just need to scratch our bellies with some kind posts now and again and we're happy. :D

Sounds like you've been beating the crap out of the competition in true Mughal style. Congrats! Don't get too complacent though. In many test games I thought I would 'ride this one out to victory', then found that someone (usually the Mughals, Safavids or Brits) would launch a surprise attack and my victory would be undone. There are perils on the home straight too, you know, and I'm not just talking about sneak attacks. There's also the Trade Mastery Victory to watch out for. I got done by that when I thought I had a game in the bag.

Plotinus: Bengal are a capable civ in this scenario indeed. They battered the Mughals out of India (only for them to return) and they can certainly bully some of their other neighbours around. What's more is Bengal have a strong culture with the Dancing Girls of Patna, this means that victory is very much an option for you. And with the close proximity of necessary luxuries, the Trade Mastery victory could be yours too. I've also chopped the game right down, so it need not be such an epic experience attaining victory.

Glad to hear that you've been introduced to Tagore also. It's been a while since I've looked into his works. Maybe you can jog my memory sometime as you find some gems worth sharing.

7ronin: Once again, thanks for your kind assistance in the thread. Keep feeding back about the plague. It can of course be tweaked a little bit here and there. Here's a thought - I bet you if the circling vulture graphic were changed there would be less fear and complaint about the plague. It looks woorse than it is. But, as always, I'm open to tweaking things.

Thanks for pointing out the adjustments to the islands that the Euros start on. I spent quite a while doing different things there. Glad someone noticed!

About that "Banana Island", who are you playing as?

And has anyone tried a game with the Malacca Pirates yet?

sorry, Rambuchan, "ls" is just a listing command, like "dir" - i was just showiing the directories under the path

there are no specific King directories in my Mughal 2/Art/unit directories

so what i tried was to add the casting.wav to all directories which would report failure -
on several attempts, it failed on Arab/Aztec/Korean

i have the following directories(along with several other Kings) under the main CIV dir (Ahab was an initial mistype)

./Civ3PTW/Art/Units/King Arab
./Civ3PTW/Art/Units/King Aztec
./Civ3PTW/Art/Units/King Korean
./Conquests/Art/Units/King Arab
./Conquests/Art/Units/King Aztec
./Conquests/Art/Units/King Korean
./Conquests/Scenarios/WH2/Art/Units/King Arab
./Conquests/Scenarios/WH2/Art/Units/King Aztec
./Conquests/Scenarios/WH2/Art/Units/King Korean
