The Rood and the Dragon - the Anglo-Saxon scenario

Frankly, I'm a tad curious about no one looking at my new thread about what I found at Atomic Gamer. Honestly, I really don't know if it's helpful, but part of the .zips contents are:

I have this scenario all right, but I think I'm missing the Mughals one.

If anyone knows where the Rood music is available, I'd be most grateful if I could pointed in the right direction. I remember playing this when I was a kid and fell in love with it. Was looking for a nostalgia trip but alas in an unfortunate turn of events it looks like the Rood music is no longer available for download.:crazyeye::cringe:

If the Civ3 community is still alive or active at all I'll be posting my completed scenarios when I am done with them.:goodjob:

Is it not available with the official download? I have it on my hard drive.

Well, I don't know whether Ozymandias has reuploaded it separately somewhere (see the post at the top of this page) but since I have a copy I could reupload it.

I feel both gratified and very old!

Is the music still missing? I do have it myself - I think - so could hopefully find a way to supply it if not.

I know that I have it because I've actually been using the soundtrack for this scenario as background music during non-civ activities (same with Hegemon…). If Plotinus wants to make an Official Upload™ I'd prefer that, but I can still do an unofficial upload myself if needed. :)

I know this is now a very old mod, but it is fantastic and I urge anyone dabbling with Civ 3 still to give it a whirl.

That said, I don't currently have access to Civ3 (should have again in a few weeks), but could really do with some screenshots of how the world map starts. Can anyone help me with this please?

It looks like a map of the British* Isles as seen from above: England, without all the English on it of course, and to the left there's an Ireland, with Irish already there, of course, and without any English there either. The same applies to Wales, Cornwall and even Scotland, adjusting for local flavour. Also there is a bunch of norse all the way to the right of the screen.

(seriously though, I'll be playing civ extensively next week and might grab you a screenie or two - but for what?)

*as of the time of writing - might sound a bit outdated within a few years, like English footballing optimism.

Ooooh, I see, you've started a NES inspired by this. Interesting. That's an incentive, even though IOT's superior to NES in every way. I shall try to contribute to ABNES any way I can.

Thanks Tak, that will be really appreciated.

I hope someone reads this as I don't have much time remaining. I send this out as a warning to all who come after: do not anger the Vikings! The Sea is their highway - they can strike ANYWHERE! I don't know - what - dark rituals they've been getting up to in their frozen lands, but they have more beserker warriors than there are stars in the sky!!! If you deny them their paltry tribute of gold and a territory map, they will COME for you. I was prideful once. I thought that Northumbria was the most powerful kingdom in Britain simply because I had crushed and absorbed Deira, Strathclyde, and Rheged. My armies were strong, my cities large, and my tech level respectable. What a fool I was. They landed near York in stacks too numerous to count. I sank their longboats with my warships.....and they laughed as dozens more took their place. In desperation I gather together all my forces - my hirthmen, my sokesmen, my thegns both Christian and Pagan.....even the wizards are being called to arms. Feverishly my people build the burgh defenses that I spent all my gold buying from the Irish. I don't know if it will be enough, but we will go down fighting (and praying that we reach the VP threshold before darkness falls).
------

In all seriousness, though, big shoutout to Plotinus for this most excellent scenario. It already had the polish and shine to make it amazing, but I had no idea how well he had set up a late game attack by the Vikings using just the Civ3 mechanics. And don't get me started on the excellent music choice.

They have taken the river......and the forest......and they are now at the walls. Every man/woman/child is conscripted for defense. We cannot hold, but we can take some with us.
