The server is too busy at the moment. Please try again later.

Now they said they might add the RAM tomorrow and move the forum to a new server on Saturday.

Kick ass. :goodjob:

I hope it works. I know very little about servers, but it seems like they are currently hosting the site on somebody's old Commodore 64. ;)

Waiting for the forum pages to load does sort of remind me of the bad old days of tape data storage. You could zip out for a pizza while your 16k program was loading.

a question:
on apo (dont yell at me for using that word), they give registred users a priority when the server is busy. how is this handled here? are non-registered users given the same access-priority than registered users?

also:
we could split up into 2 servers :-)
(hey, just a joke!) or just turn off anything which takes cpu and memory (avatars, what else? maybe postcounts? custom titles?)
or maybe office hours: 8-20 gmt for usa, 20-8 gmt for europe+asia :-)

I seem to have missed the announcement that avatars were disappearing briefly but I'm not that bothered. I see that ainwood ignored the option to whip the Oompaloompas more, which could prove effective. I'd also like to suggest, after the manner of priority for the registered users, that we engage floppa as doorman and let him rough up those not prepared to queue nicely.

Is Jamie Theakston an oomploompa? Don't know if whipping him will help, but I can arrange it.

Bear in mind that I don't do the hands-on stuff myself. Its just not my thing! :)

The avatars are back! :ack:
And as soon as they were, the delays were back too!

Page generated in 25.8062609 seconds (1.64% PHP - 98.36% MySQL) with 25 queries.

Opposed to:
Page generated in 1.8062609 seconds (91.92% PHP - 8.08% MySQL) with 25 queries.
5 minutes before getting avatars back.

All times taken on the main forum page, so it´s not the actual image loading, it´s the additional database load. :mischief:

And now it´s even getting slower and slower by the minute. Maybe this post will not even reach the server anymore.
If TF is just testing, the it has definitely revealed the answer:
Delete Custom Avatars!
:D

Well, it looks like Telefragged have added 1 gig RAM to the forum server (finally!). The server load is pretty low now and we have 210 users online. :)

I will re-enable search tonight.

Well,
I got constant server busy messages from 8:50PM to 9:00PM GMT...

*sigh*

It was slow and onetime issues before 8:50PM, but permanent for those 10 minutes.

Lucky is probably right about the avatars. As much as I like them, they are probably a big drain on the server.

I will take speed over custom avatars 100% anyday. Is there a way to test the theory?

It's already been tested!! I don't want custom avatars. Just as long as I can have an un-interupted CFC browsing, I'm happy!

:goodjob:

Well, its better again now. The acid test will be in about an hour, and again in 4 or 5 hours. Seems to be really bad at those times, or when TF updates the main page.
