The Song of the Moon

yea well, went through the whole thread, pretty interesting stuff. and you guys really need a more reliable file hosting place

No kidding. :)

I think that problem is close to being solved.

soo... whats the basic story behind this? there has been something called the isolation mentioned a bunch of times.

I'm just curious and getting a little convo going while waiting.

Basically the Isolation is the event that cuts off the Colonists from Earth. Whether that is because of problems Earthside, sabotage Lunar side, or something else we never specified. That event changes the transfer of He-3 to Earth for food to a total need for the Moon to be self-sufficient.

cool. in one premade civ2 scenario about mars which was in the Civ2 fantasty/scifi expansion pack (if I remember correctly), the scenario began when communications got cut off from earth and they were all alone to fend for themselves on mars.

so, something simple and plausible would work, although its much easier to do it for Mars than the Moon because they can see the earth from the moon. Something like a huge war would be plausible, although not neccesarily for centuries, unless it was a nuclear war (or a similarily catastrophic event) and everybody on earth has been whacked to the iron age. which would make a cool and plausible plotline for why they became isolated, potentially for centuries.

so ideas for the event that causes them to be isolated could be:
Nuclear War (everybody has been knocked back to the iron age or whatever)

a huge war that involves a huge amout of biological weapons or a mixture of nukes and bioweapons which kills most ppl and the survivors have more on thier hands than supplying the moon colonies.

some kind of massive volcanic eruption disrupts communication and makes it risky to send craft through the atmosphere, not to mention other problems (this one could be huge enough to last centuries)

thats all I can think of for now. The Nuclear war or one with lots of bio-weapons destroying civilization and mutating ppl or something would go great with the sci-fi aspect of this mod.

We weren't decided if the Colonists actually cared that they were Isolated either. Some civs more than others would be happier left alone. A lot of decisions like that were left undone so far...

yea well, it is just an idea. I also added a few ideas (I think I did that while you posted) as far as the event that isolated them which could also give them a reason not to return to earth. The volcanic eruption one is probably not real plausible and doesn't really mesh with the sci-fi aspect of this mod anyway.

Ok, I wanted to avoid doing this, but getting ownership of the thread is taking longer then I anticipated.

You can download v0.23a (compatible with the 1.61 patch) here.

The Moon Mod team gives their thanks to Kael for his help in hosting this file 8). I hope to move this link to its proper place at the head of this thread "soon". :/.

what do you mean ownership of the thread, and cool about the updated mod file

erm, I'm getting a HTTP 404 not found error.

even though the link is there, theres something wrong with it because I'm getting an HTTP 404 not found error.

This should be the proper link, for some reason it was catonated in Belizan's version.

You can download v0.23a (compatible with the 1.61 patch) here.

catonated? and thanks :) I'll check it out after class because I don't have time to install it in and check it out right now.

catonated?

I don't allow other peoples view of "real words" limit me. ;)

I'm not objecting to it, just never heard it before. kind of a funny way to describe what happened to the origional link I guess :)

very cool mod :)

also, in the info for Basic Hydrolysis, it says 'can work water tiles', I think this is suppoused to be 'can work dust sea tiles'.

Did you mean catenated?

How about the link was castrated.

lol

anyway, I'm slightly confused about something, when I move a unit outside of my cultural borders for the first time, it gets a slight bit of damage (.1 damage) for some reason. this effect only seems to happen when I go outside the borders and only once per unit.

edit: it seems to be something with the tracked units, I'm not sure whats going on. maybe some kind of terrain effect? although it has happened with foot units once or twice. I don't know where to pinpoint it or how exactly to reproduce it.

also, for the optical glass tech, it has the similar text in it which is obsolete, which is +1 visibiliy over water tiles, although I think that one just forgot to get deleted because theres the +1 increased visibility. unless it did mean over the dust sea tiles

also, what does the terrain attrition option (when starting a new game) mean?

its definetly a great mod :) I only did a short game for like an hour or so since I gotta do homework now (shoulda started a little bit ago :P I'm a procrastinator, lol), and IMO the tech research is a little fast on normal speed, even though I was ahead of the AI, they weren't that far behind. The only problems I saw was the over-expansion of the civ selection screen when I selected NASA which completely blocked the selections, that one and the Indian company (the name sounds Indian) completely block the selections, the others aren't as bad. Its a known issue though. and the minor issue of the old text in the tech info. I don't know if the strange slight damage thing is a bug or whatever the heck is going on there. I did try to reproduce that with a lancer, but didn't happen, so I have no idea whats causing it.
