I recall your great website of long ago on Geocities; it contained information on (and downloads for!) games like Civilization, Pirates!, and Port-of-Call. Anyhow, I remember thumbing through the dozens of Civilization tips, and reading about two great approaches: the "War Machine" and the "Democratic-style Civ". The former, I believe, allowed you to conquer the world well before Christ, and the latter either gave you the spaceship or allowed you to start a futuristic war as republic with the "Women's Suffrage" wonder.

Your site stated a key aspect of "War Machines": if you leave just one foreign city remaining, you can then "switch" to your democratic strategy and build the spaceship easily. You affirmed that people recieved scores of over 2000% (I think) using the tactic. Too bad I forgot to print out the details ...

Wow, bvd. I'm surprised that you rembember so many details from the strategy guide. You've got a few things out-of-whack, the biggest of which is this 2000% number. The actual number in the strategy guide is 300%. Parts of this website are still on the internet, and all of it is still on my harddrive. However, most of the website contains illegal content (not the strategy guide, though). So if anyone wants a copy of this strategy guide, you can email me for it. Much of the content, mostly the reference charts, is repeated here on civfanatics in a nicer format. In all, it's an incomplete strategy guide, and quite ugly. The strategies in it are the best I know of, though, and you may find it invaluable. It contains tips on some simple subjects (how to attack a city), some neat tricks, and some large-scale strategies like the war machine. So if you want it email me.
