Yeah, RM that happened to me too, although I didn't suffer much. Like tao, I think I Shift>right click and then bring up the menu. Anyway, I think it was just whoever created the game was playing a trick on the players. Making them think there was 1 less AI tribe than there was.
I hardly build military. I only got into 1 war (a French knight sneak attacked a city; igniting a GA). I only killed 1 unit (the french knight). My goal was a fast finish, with lotsa gold and a huge gpt.
I never play for scores; I hardly notice them. But it's good that for this occassion I've kept a T_minus_one save. I replayed the last automatic turns and it states:
A Diplo victory with lotsa money in a small teritory. Not quiet the regular way of playing a militaristic/expansionistic civ; is it ?
Well, here is my game, even though I consider myself ineligible due to my status in the department, my status as a judge for the tournament, and my status as tardy (as in after the conclusion of the tournament ).
Not a bad game, but I was a little disappointed with my score.
It was a bit neck and neck down the wire with Persia, mostly because Russia declared war on me after failing to implant a spy in their capitol for about the 7th turn in a row (give or take a few turns). I ended up switching one of my cities from Cure for Cancer to one of the SS parts to ensure victory (even though I was only 1 turn away from completing Cure for Cancer and in hindsight probably didn't need to do so).
Not as much gold as Rik, but enough to get just about whatever I wanted.
There is an old saying that the history books are written by the victors, or as the case may be, the conquerors. With no enemies around to write an opposing history, the conquerors can draft the perfect history for their nation.
Thus, the CHD extends a heartfelt congratulations to Tao, winner of the Touloo Open!
Also, an honorable mention goes to Rik Meleet for his economic dominance in his game. A worthwhile argument can be made that the nation that wealth can purchase the silence of those who would discredit your version of history. Additionally, Rik certainly amassed enough wealth to ensure that his history books would find their ways to every bookstore on the planet.
Great job to the two of you. I hope that many others also enjoyed the contest.
