So we're two weeks away from 2010 and the end of the decade. What important trends and events will mark this decade, politically, economically, socially, culturally, etc. in both your own nations and abroad?

Bush and this recession

The arrival and growing importance of internetbased social networks.

Continuing economic polarization, at least in the US.

Web 2.0
Blogging

iPods, iPhones, i[insert prodocuct]

rickrolls

Neil Patrick Harris
I couldn't do without Google, but my preferred social network is the Cheezburger network. I can't stand the others.

What IS "rickrolling"?

Skinny jeans were actually around in the 1950s, folks... :D (not that I was, I just remember seeing pictures of them)

Doogie Howser was around long before the turn of the century!

But I honestly think this decade will be remembered for a very long time for 9/11, the following wars in the Middle East, and the subsequent financial meltdowns.

Finally, there is actually another year left of this decade! :scan:

Crap like Twitter, unfortunately.

Religion mixing with politics
The relative decline of the US
The rise of China
The rise of the left in South America
Expansion of the EU
Environmentalism becoming mainstream
Gay rights

People who will be remembered, politics-wise

Bush
bin Laden
Putin
Obama
Chavez
Ahmedinejad
Blair

Interesting to note there is no real prominent Chinese politicians, given the decade they have had.

So it's basically just another bit of cruddy spam. Thanks for the explanation. :shake:

It was a cultural phenomenon, that most people were privy to

Also, add lolcats to the list.

I don't go to movies or listen to current music (unless it's something like Andrea Bocelli), so I never encountered this phenomenon.

Lolcats...

@warpus: Vampires have been popular for a lot longer than this decade...

2010: Valka D'Ur releases her poetry and songs

In the academic world

Sustainable development and gender science. If you want research grants for your paper(s) make sure to have a chapter on these and let the grant-giver know that you do. It doesn't matter what field you're in, at all.

More laws more legislation higher taxes higher public debt more deficits more CCTV camaras DNA datebases stupid wars (Iraq) a whole nation decieved by Blair. The UK is now further declined into moral, political and social malaise. Islamist political idealogy is now the major fundamental challenge. Like French expansionism, Prussian militarism, Nazism and Soviet Communism liberal democratic English speaking nations will triumph again and shape global events into the future.

9/11.
The debacle in Iraq.
George W. Bush and his Recession in the late 2000's.
Increase if the gay agenda activism.
That nutcase in Iran.
Osama Bin Laden and his trek across Afghanistan and Pakastan.
Obama kicking out Bush.
John Kerry's falure to kick Bush out of the White House.
