The Triumph(?) of the Boers: Yet another AoI Story.

Hey Hikaro, when's this going to be updated?

Come on we're all waiting...

Japanese Eritrea. Hahaha. I've always said that Eritrea is the 2nd most useless country in the world. :mischief:

Sorry to any Eritreans reading this. ;)

You don't need to worry bout that... I don't think there's a private owned computer in the whole country nor do the probably play Civ 3.:D:D

I've no idea where Hikaro got off too, but I wouldn't be surprised if he overwrote this game. I often do it whenever I drop a story for a bit - out of habit I save over the usual file.

No, I actually still have it, but the story, particularly trying to deal with uploading screenshots with my slow internet connection, and the stupendously long turn times just killed my motivation....

Having said that, I finally got around to transferring all my civ III stuff over to my home-built, dual-core portable computer that runs AoI about 2x as fast as the old computer (which I'm using for the internet now), so I might get back to it... Then again, I just recently got engaged, so I wouldn't hold out TOO much hope. I did, however, play up to a point where it is literally impossible for me to lose (i.e. I have over 50% of the world population so I automatically win the League of Nations vote, and an insurmountable VP lead), so I'll at least try to get the story to that point so everyone can at least get some kind of closure.

lurker's comment: Hey, welcome back to CFC, man! Long time, no see.

First off, congrats on getting engaged! Best of luck to you both...

But moving on to more pressing matters :p, I hope that you do update this in the future. It would be great to see it to completion, but I can see why the long turn times would be a source of irritation. I have to say though, that finished or unfinished, this is one of my favorite stories to read. It's just all-around awesome. :goodjob:

Congratulations on your engagement, Hikaro!

If you can find some time to write some sort of epilogue, that's great. If not, well, it was great while it lasted.

If you ever have free time, I'd definitely try the new version of AoI. All sorts of nifty stuff over the original - it has a much more different feel. Though it seems you did help out in developing it so you probably know some of that already. ;)

As a bonus, the British seem to suck a lot more in the new version.

Actually, since I'm pretty much done with the Final Fantasy mod (all that's left is finishing up some of the unit lines, which will take a while, even using the dual-core machine that can render about 2x as fast as the one I was using), I was thinking about doing a quick 'n' dirty European map-based scenario based on Age of Empires III and Europa Universalis III (I'm going to call it "Age of Europa Universalis III  ), that will cover the years 1500 - 1900, be on a medium-sized European Map (probably the one from the Middle Ages conquest or the smaller of the two maps from MeM), with most of the unit lineups taken from AoE, but political/government stuff loosely based on EU III, particularly the ability to form "Vassal" states via SW (like MeM, but without the government restrictions), as well as "Unification" wonders (i.e. being able to form Germany if you control at least 2 of the three German states or something like that)... but I digress.

Sparthage: I have actually been back for about two months or so (I won the November Unit Maker of the Month competition, the first ever three-way tie with my Kämpfer unit), but I've mostly been working on the Final Fantasy mod.

I, however did recently decide to play MEM on the 11th century scenario map with modified rules (kind of to test some of the concepts for my Age of Europa Universalis III idea), and here's what Europe looks like about 1/3 of the way into the game:

I.e. Right before I declared war on the Golden Horde (The stupid Mongolians were trying to tear down my city walls, so I had to pour hot sweet and sour pork all over them!)... Unfortunately I kind of got bored with that game because the map is entirely too big, resulting in the game seeming to drag on forever. One funny note is that ironically, Hungary and Poland (later Bohemia) invaded me first, which resulted in them getting their butts kicked.

I'd get into contact with Rhye, myself. His mod is amazing - a massive map, plenty of variety and units, and yet it's lightning fast. He could probably give some great tips on keeping turn times low. Even at the end of the game, they never get past 3 minutes or so.
