What's the origin of "vibes"/"vibrations"? Why did people start saying "I get good vibrations from him"? Is it a new age thing about energy vibrating/oscillating? Is it something in Buddhism? Is it about music?
It's a New Age thing.
Vibrations are an integral part of music. They're how deaf people can enjoy music and dancing. They feel the rhythm and vibrations even if they can't hear the tones of the instruments or voices.

In the general sense of "vibes", my perspective is that it's something subliminal, that's hard to put into words. It's like when an artist knows if something feels wrong or feels right, in proper balance (which doesn't necessarily mean perfect mathematical symmetry). It's something that makes a person feel relaxed when it's right, or uneasy when it's not.

This is something that used to drive my grandmother nuts - me taking so long to decorate the Christmas tree every year. I wanted it to be perfect from every possible angle where people could see it - colors, shapes, whether or not a decoration was shiny or not, how things would catch the light (and not be a danger or temptation to the cats), and this wasn't just a couple-of-hours thing. One year it took me nearly 3 days to get it just right - because up until then the vibes weren't right.

I live near some train tracks. Whenever a train goes by, my radio reception goes absolutely crazy. What exactly is happening?

AM, FM, both?

AM is a fairly weak signal and quite prone to interference. Either way though, it's probably interefernece from the electrics in the train.

FM radio. Sorry, forgot to mention.

The radio in my kitchen loses reception every time i open the fridge. Or when i stand next to the microwave.

That or the train is physically blocking the signals being as it is a big metal box.

Why does Dairy Queen think people will want toast as part of a combo meal?

Are there any people here who like a piece of toast added to a fast-food combo meal?

Toast?

My wife likes it. I find it strange, but I guess it isn't any stranger than adding bread sticks to pasta to make a meal. It is better when I remember to ask for no butter. Now I'm wondering if they have jelly available to put on it. I've never thought to ask before, but jelly would be nice.

Do large-volume mail senders get significant postage breaks from the USPS? I cannot figure out how say, Netflix runs a profitable DVD-by-mail business if they were charged full postage on each mailing.

Well a popular dipping sauce for their chicken tenders is gravy so I don't think it's that odd. Plus diner-style restaurants tend to add toast to every meal they serve. DQ isn't a diner per se but it shows that it isn't totally weird.

Plus the defining characteristic of American fast food is huge portions so throwing toast on top of the meal fits that trend as well.

Toast is good.

I've just canceled my Netflix. My account got hacked, and changing the email and password associated with it did no good. They have a security issue, and the agent tried to get me to switch to yet another email and password, and I told her no - they'd found the second one, which could only have happened if they could access Netflix's records.

So if anyone here has Netflix and starts getting weird emails in Italian, that's what's going on.

The bun's already carby. The fries are carby. Toast is just more carbs, but with no extra taste to contribute to the meal.

Yeah, but it's not garlic toast. It's toasted Wonder bread, for all I can tell. Maybe you can ask for jam. They don't give it.

They aren't paying first class mail rates. DVDs can go by media mail rates, same as books and magazine and CDs. That's about the lowest rate there is. It was invented a long time ago when mailing newspapers and magazines was subsidized because that's the only way a lot of the country could get news. So if you mail a book to someone, tell the clerk it's a book and ask for media mail rate.

What's this whole deal with "a personal God"? Either God exists or s/he doesn't and you already know what s/he is supposed to be like, so where does the 'personal' aspect come in?
