It seems like the loss of an HP would be a good idea in return for such an amazing benefit as the ability to teleport. Besides, teleport DOES seem more like traveling than rebase does. I vote that the ways should only be included for the shadow since they seem to be the ones using them the mostest in the novels, and since they seem to lack Dreadlords (for now, excluding that freaky dude in the Two Rivers and the Forsaken) to teleport for them.

Are you going to leave the massive bits of territory that are unclaimed by everyone in the books? You might even want to get rid of culture additions to prevent people from cultural expansion since the Randland civs are in a state of decay (and to prevent them from expanding the borders of their empire and taking over waygates etc). You would just have to preset the culture and then use culture retained on capture to prevent problems like that.

@Xen: thanks for the heads up!

@CamJH: Thanks! I had not seen it posted on their store, but it doesnt matter. I made an arrangement with my parents... its kinda like an indentured servitude thing ;p

@aeon- thank me only if you manage to find a cheaper student version; I dont really knwo where to them other then through collage capuses (that includes local community collages, if they offer courses that deal with programs like poser, IIRC)

that said, th emore unit creators thier are, th emore chances i get of having what particuler unit I've set my dreams on getting made ;)

On another note, I've switched out Kinboat's Cataphract for Bebro's German Knight for the Shienaran Lancer. Its emblem is a very close match to Shienar's flag, and it is also armed with more of an actual lance for the first attack. Here's a pic so you can all know what I'm talking about.

Aeon221,
That's it. That's the exact program that I use. If you're not sure about dropping 200, you could think about getting Poser4. I imagine it would be a little cheaper. Kinboat still uses Poser4, and I think everyone would agree his units are nothing short of spectacular. Up to you. :)

Oh, and Sasha, if you don't use the hacked editor with teleport but use the regular editor with "Re-base" ability, the unit doesn't suffer the loss of a hitpoint.

I didn't know about Re-base working with ground units. I only new about the standard airport use for it.

Okay, I'll have a break like Cam said then :P

I'm mostly finding it hard to

A) Make a realistic sword swish
B) Get the bleedin' cape to stop clipping through my character. It's conformed to him, so whenever I move the bloody thing it moves his head!

Ok, try this. Try a double swipe, one coming from each side, first right to left then left to right. Poser will fill in the spaces in between so it looks like he's swinging through the opponent. Something like this.

Then render a quick avi just in one direction with the make movie option at 140x140. Animations always come out better once they've been rendered. (The human eye fills in the gap between frames too.) Also, sometimes just twisting a forearm or shoulder a couple degrees at impact can change the whole swing before it from overhead to sideways, and vice versa. Just keep playing with it. If you keep getting stuck, one way that used to help me get ideas was by using Civ3FlcEdit and just viewing other units' movements. With that program you can watch an animation frame by frame and then try and mimic it with poser, as kind of a guide.

As for the cape problem. The cape shouldn't move the characters head. :hmm: It should be the other way around. And if that's one of the big things that's holding you back, you could always set it aside for now, work on a unit without a cape, and come back to it when you feel more comfortable.

Since there is no real discription of the King's Life Guard, I've based it more on Tarabon fashion. Here's what I was working from in the big white book.

Taraboner men often sport facial hair under the veil in the form of a thick mustache, and wear a dark cylindrical cap on their thick dark hair. Both lords and commoners wear baggy white trousers and coats embroidered with scrollwork on the shoulders, though the lords' coats are usually of finer material and their much more elaborate embroidery is often gold. Loose-fitting shirts with embroidered chests are worn under the coats. Occasionally the trousers are embroidered as well.

- I went with the baggy white trousers as described.
- I didn't go with the cylindrical cap or veil, because I don't think it would fit with the armor of a monarch's personal guard.
- I added the shoulder plates because I thought it gave some of the pomp that a king's guard would surely have.
- I'll also add some gilding to the edges of the armor.
- I haven't decided on a helmet yet, but when I do I will probably add a plume since it was described for the Panarch's Legion but I failed to include it.
- I'm sure I'll still tweak the model in a couple other ways, but I wanted to give you guys at least a small preview... so you know I'm still at work. ;)

nice, cam! i'm sure no one here is gonna crack the whip on ya - your units are coming out great without pressure!

regarding the description, "coats with embroidered shoulders" and "full beards" brought me in mind of the sgt peppers jackets the beatles wore in the album art shoot, rather than armour. i think the big shoulder "pad" look is a nice touch, but i'd steer away from armouron them. but, it's been a while since i read the books, so i cant even recall who these guys are - it might better to ignore me!

Looks fantastic so far ;)

I'm taking your tip and working on the Atha'an Miere cargomaster.

Well, that description was one of Tarabon fashion for commoners and lords, not necessarily soldiers and guards. Whether worn only for decoration or for actual use, I don't think any military position would be completely void of either mail or some type of armor. I just wanted their attire to represent somewhat the fashion of the land. I haven't added the mustache or any of the facial hair yet, and probably won't have to bother with it since I will probably select a helmet that covers almost the entire face. If Taraboners consider it rude for someone to show their face in public, I'd assume that holds true through the military as well.

The Panarch's Legion is posted. :)

And keep checking in as often as you like betrayerofhope. Hope to keep your mouth watering as we go. As for a mod without preplaced cities, it's possible. All anyone would have to do is basically delete the cities from the map... or so I think. The starting locations would still be the same for each civ since they're assigned, but you would lose places like Emond's Field, or any other place on the map that isn't designated as a capital (where all the starting points are).

I think I follow you...although simply deleting the cities might be kind of weird if the tech tree starts off with things as they were after the Aiel war. It would be kinda like starting the regular civ game from the begining but having the tech tree already in the Middle Ages (no cities but somehow we already have Code of Laws, Currency, and Philosophy). I guess I'm wondering if the tech tree will go back far enough to play this from the start with the randland Civs just starting out after the breaking. I hope my question makes sense.

Just also want to say that I'm not trying to come in here and get all picky with you guys. I'm just REALLY looking forward to this mod and had a couple questions. I appreciate the work you are doing.

I was talking with Kinboat about Trollocs, and he sent me this pm which I thought you all might find interesting. :)

Well then what I think I'm going to do for the Trolloc models is make one body with human legs (just a muscular hulking PDM) and one with Hooves (just the body from my Minotaur) and then a bunch of heads, eagle, goat (ram), maybe boar, cat etc. That way you and anyone else can mix and match whatever beastly demon monsters they want :D

Kinboat
- I mentioned that I didn't recall cat heads on Trollocs, but suggested wolf heads instead.

These models mean that we'll be able to create a whole assortment of different Trolloc units! Should make the shadowspawn army very impressive. :)

Odin, if you can be around this weekend we can discuss some of the city improvements we've thought up, and hopefully we could get started on the tech tree... Anyway, PM me and let me know when you're free.

Nooo... have a secret cat headed trolloc!

You could call it 'Pitiful Mistake', give it crummy stats, and leave it sitting as a barbarian in the mountains some where! ;p

How hilarious would that be? People would be like AHHH! TROLLOCK RAIDER! ...wait a minute... is that... it isnt... it is... a cat head... wonder what HIS parents were drinking ...

;p

I don't think wolf heads would work. Trollocs are afraid of/hate wolves. If a trolloc looked even remotely like a wolf his buds would probably rip him apart and eat him.

@alerum- I'm free most weekdays about 4:00-4:30 and most of Saturday and Sunday. I'm working on some AoM building conversions now, but I can put them on hold for now.
BTW- that model looks awesome, CamJH!

Thanks Odin. :)

Vaerraent,
But there are Trollocs with wolf heads (i.e.: the first Trolloc Rand ever killed).

"One of the Trollocs was getting to its feet. A wolf's muzzle jutted out below sunken eyes. Flat, emotionless eyes, and all too human. Hairy, pointed ears twitched incessantly. It stepped over one of its dead companions on sharp goat hooves. The same black mail the others wore rasped against leather trousers, and one of the huge, scythe-curved swords swung at its side.
It muttered something, guttural and sharp, then said, "Others go away. Narg stay. Narg smart." The words were distorted and hard to understand, coming from a mouth never meant for human speech. Its tone was meant to be soothing, he thought, but he could not take his eyes off the stained teeth, long and sharp, that flashed every time the creature spoke. "Narg know some come back sometime. Narg wait. You no need sword. Put sword down.
"

That's... interesting. Perhaps at that time RJ hadn't thought about the wolf thing? Or mabye it means something...
