Oh, I agree. The Seanchan could be one of the coolest civs for the game. I've listed a couple units for them, but there could be oh so many more. The problem is lack of models for the exotics... and if you want to make some of them mounted units, then that's a whole nother beast. I don't think I even want to try mounted units yet. They might not be any more difficult than regular foot units, but that's not the impression I've gotten.

Does anyone have an idea what the Seanchan (or their beasts) look like? I haven't read all the books (first two only really) but I was under the impression (from a website or two) that there was some confusion about their appearance (maybe I'm mistaken though)...

A big book came out a while ago that had pictures of the animals, if you want one of us can post them for you. :)

That book you refered to was approved by Robert Jordan as well, so it would be the most accurate view of those exotic beasts. I haven't got any of them on my pc yet, but maybe this weekend, if nobody beats me to it, I'll try to get them up.

I've got 'em all of course. :D
One of them is that mounted unit I keep posting in all of your unit lotteries Kinboat. As for the rest of them, if you'd like I could post pictures of them for you. I could also send you the document (believe it's html) that has the pictures included with descriptions to fill in the background or other info you couldn't get from the pics alone.

Hey guys. I am a big fan of Robert jordans books and have been following this forum since pretty much the start. I must say that this is one of the (if not the) biggest civilization projects and the most well organized project I have yet seen.

I am deeply regretting not being able to do anything to help but I have stumbled upon this link.(you probably already know of it)

http://www.ece.umd.edu/~dilli/WOT/WOTindex/art.html

it just contains all sorts of graphics and art relating to Robert Jordans fantastic world.

I am greatly looking forward to the completion of this mod so keep up the amazing work guys.

I guess I'd like the pictures and the background. Is it a link or just the whole file? And how big would it be then :D I'm on a really bad phone line (I usually don't connect over 16000 anymore :( )

I am trying to brainstorm techs, but I really have no clue what kind of tech tree you guys are going for. Is there anyway you could hint at it?

Like are we using events or making things up?

For instance "The Dragon is Reborn!" gives you the ability to build something cool (like a RAND Nuke! ;p)

And "The Aiel War" which gives the Aiel some stronger units, and renders obsolete the Topless Towers of Carhienen?

Or more generic things, like "Siegecraft" which grants you the ability to be boring ;p

Just figured I would ask haha

It is just a link to a site with links to loads of fan art (some good... some... err... not. :dubious: ) Also pics from the books such as chapter icons and front and back page art. Some of the links don't seem to work and I haven't looked at all of them yet but there may be some stuff there that might interest you.

Sorry... My question was actually to CamJH.

I did go to that site and looked at a few things, although I seemed to hit alot of broken links.

Good news everyone! :D For those who are not in the know, I have spent the last week or two working on my first unit: a Rand al'Thor king unit. Well, I'm almost finished, I just have to make the .pcxs and get the attack animations working. :) I have to go on a trip tomorrow, so I should be finished by Sunday, Monday at the latest. Here's a preview to get your appetites working:

Oh yea: :bump:

Wow that looks cool so far. Can't wait to see it in a game. As far as making a king unit usable in game, I have made mine all defensive type stats, as the AI only uses them to fortify in cities.

When I say "king" I really am saying something more like "leader". After all, it's not like all the Dragon Reborn does is defend. ;)

aaglo just released his Phoenix Guard in the Unit Graphics forum, and I think it'd fit in great for Mayene's Winged Guards... which will also allow us to bump the Hussar to a mounted Winged Guard and provide Mayene with 2 uu's. :)

Here's a preview:
(or you can go check it out in the thread)

That's pretty sweet. I also love the King's Life Guard also. I think that Phoenix guard would do well as a Mayene UU.

OK, back to WoT units. :)

Here's a preview of the Wise One unit I'm putting together.

I'd like to hear your thoughts. Hair? Coloring? Whatever.
Here's your chance to offer up some feedback.

BTW... Attacks will likely be lightning and fireball similar to the Asha'man.

Later :D

On a completely different note.
I was thinking about slotting embryodead's Blood Dragon Vampire in for Myrddraal until Vaerraent finishes up with his.

This ok?

The Spy unit from C3C was pulling double duty so far, and this will free it up. I'd rather just use it for a Darkfriend unit anyways. I believe we've talked about darkfriends before, but don't know that it ever reached final verdict. Obviously I think they should be a unit for the Shadowspawn civ., but I also remember kicking around the idea of making them available to all civs at some point (representing darkfriends everywhere) but they'd be expensive and possibly cost population points... or something like that to make it a choice of evils. The darkfriend unit would also have hidden nationality so you could play it against others without them really knowing. Thoughts? Discussion?

I think your darkfriend idea is perfect. A hidden nationality unit and possibly invisible too, so you don't realize it's there unitl it's too late. Problem with this is the AI loves building these units. Maybe scratch the invisible part. The hidden nationality is perfect though so they can attack and pillage without erupting a war. Maybe they could be produced by a wonder to limit their production instead of the population thing. The AI would deplete it's population to build them. For the Shadowspawn civ they could have a wonder that produces them more often or a version that would be invisible. Would force the border civs to patrol a bit more.

Produced by wonder/small wonder is a good idea. I like how you have it set up with Mystara. I think they should also have a high attack, low defense rating to show their effectiveness in secrecy but the penalty for being found out.

Also, since Kinboat's working on a Warder unit for us, it's got me thinking about how to implement them along with Aes Sedai. Here's what I've put together, from opinions of people in the thread as well as some of my own. Alerum does not want to have Aes Sedai as their own civilization, and he has made some good points to support his position. Wouldn't want the White Tower declaring war on rival nations, which is bound to happen no matter what. Even lowest aggression civs sometimes get it in their heads to become warmongers.
Solution = have them linked with a resource that has a high appearance/high disappearance rate (which makes it pop up all over the place, but for short whiles). This will display the rareness of the ability, and it'll make it difficult for one civ to make a whole army of Aes Sedai. Give the Aes Sedai the Enslave ability, so they enslave/bond their Warders. The Aes Sedai will have a VERY high defense, but an even lower offense rating (maybe even 1). This will prevent several things. (1) People (AI included) will not use them to declare war since they'd lose a valuable unit (demonstrates Aes Sedai vow not to attack unless attacked upon first). (2) Units are a lot less likely to enslave units when attacked upon (in defense), so you won't have Aes Sedai producing tons of Warders. Warders will be rare then, but I think that's how it should be since I view them as the second most powerful foot units, behind only the Asha'man.
Then Aes Sedai will be available to everyone. BUT as with Knights in the main game, they can be represented different within different civs. Shadowspawn get Black Ajah, Randland civs get Aes Sedai, Aiel get Wise Ones, Sea Folk get Wind Finders, etc. etc.

Whew! Think I got it all down. That's a lot to consider, so let me know any of your reactions.

And... Sorry for the long post. ;)

EDIT: Oh yeah, they can also have transport foot unit abilities.
