The Wonder Thread.

Doesn't look look very wonderful...

Agreed. I went to the Dead Sea in March. It could be jazzed up a bit. Definitely different shades of blue and turquoise, for starters.

I was just thinking, I hope we see some more statue wonders eventually, whether in the game on release or in DLC/Expansions, cause I think with the new wonders on the map mechanic having some more big statues like the Colossus or Cristo Redentor would be super cool. I know that Statue of Liberty is currently conspicuously absent and we will certainly either have that at launch or eventually, but I hope we get some more like how The Motherland Calls was rumored for Civ V BNW or maybe one of the crazy huge Buddha statues. I think it would look amazing to have more stuff like that in your empire.

Well, we got the Colossus already, and Cristo Redentor. So there's those two.

But sadly I highly doubt we'll be seeing Motherland Calls, as much as I think we should.

Because.. copyright issues  (and I am not actually kidding)

Hi everyone, longtime lurker here :)

As for the buildings under Natural History civic the first one looks like the Hermitage to me

while the second one shouldn't be the Museum Island as someone suggested because it is rotated the wrong way

I like it....would be even cooler if it was built out of an actual mountain tile.....

I agree. But desert is also cool since the combination of desert/mountain is not possible. Strange is that it can't be build on desert hills...

There are no Observatories. And no land-restricted buildings due to district system (except for Water mill in city center).

Oh huh, double checked and looks like what I used to think was an Observatory wound up being Oxford.

But when they're inevitably added in an expac, I'd hope they can be built on mountain tiles.

All buildings are built within districts. No districts can be built on mountains.

Technically nothing prevent observatory from being formally a city center building, while being shown on top of nearby mountain. However, it conflicts with Civ6 principle where shown location is the actual location. So, more likely there will be no such building in expansion.

Since Wonders aren't pillageable, I don't see actual problems with placing Wonders on impassable tiles, except for the China sadness. I believe the biggest problem is what there will be no tile competition for such Wonders. You have no other uses for impassable tiles like Mountains.

Call it an improvement then. Or make it so that the observatory can only be built in a campus adjacent to a mountain. Lots of ways to skin and eat a cat.

Well.. no.. but.

"Observatory - Must be built in the Campus without a Library. 100% Adjacency bonus from Mountains in this district/+2 Science and +1 Production from all mountains"

I'm surprised we don't have more "either" buildings other than what seems to be Stable/Barracks choice.

They could make it required to be Adjacent to a mountain. (and then adjust the graphics so the wonder 'faces out' from the adjacent mountain)

If they did bring it back, it could be an alternate building for campuses next to mountains. Like how you have to choose between barracks and stables in the Encampment or the two types of museums.

It's still needs to be visually on the actual tile, not on the mountain. The whole beautiful idea of Civ6 is what everything is on map. Showing something at wrong tile doesn't look like a good idea.

We have power plant choice in industrial district and a variety of the last Holy Site buildings.

EDIT: Oh, yes and 2 Museums. Thanks, Eagle Pursuit.

Yeah, I was hoping for more options
like

Public School v. Research Lab (pop dependent v. flat boost+boost to science specialists)
University v. Observatory (value depends on # mountains adjacent)

Military v. Tourism buildings for Airport

Military v. Trade/water output buildings for Harbor

Armory v. Practice Range for Encampment (melee+cavalry v. ranged).... so cav is stable+armory, melee barracks+armory, ranged barracks+"range"

Recycling Center v. Medical Lab for Aqueduct (production v. growth boost)

Natural History Museum as a museum option (science+culture boost)

Low v. high density housing for neighborhoods (amenities v. housing)

etc.

The Observatory on the tile could be represented by a giant statue of Kermit the Frog, and any time you see Kermit you'd know that there's an Observatory to be seen on an adjacent tile. Or it could be a few blue roofed Buildings and a parking lot. Either way, it'd look a lot different than a Research Lab.

I still remember my great disappointment the first time I built an Observatory in Civ 5, then zoomed in on my city, looked at the nearby mountain, and — nothing. :dubious:

How can an observatory be anywhere but on a mountain?
