Personally, I'm a Limburgian Dutch speaker, so I must thank you for the compliments since we're usually the laughing stock of the Greater Netherlands :D Too bad the rest of the world will never hear our language, I must say this is sounds very different from Dutch, but we use almost the same words ... it's just very singy and soft :)

Well, most non-Limburgian Flemmish and most non-Limburgian Dutch consider both Limburgs to be German :) .

I don't like Danish, but Swedish is ok, so I didn't vote...

Why on Earth do people think Japanese is beautiful? Pretty girls do not an attractive language make. The written language can be rather beautiful, but spoken Japanese is rarely even remotely pleasant to the ears.

Portuguese is my favourite.

The Dutch language is the most evil language in the world for the simple reason that it's whole existence is a plot to drive all Europeans mad. It sounds just a little like German, a little like English, a little like French (not much like this though), a little like Norwegian, in fact, a little like every European language. And when you hear it you turn to see if it's someone talking to you, because it sounds familiar, but you can't understand a thing and it drives you INSANE!!!

That's why I hate Dutch.

surprised so many like German. live and learn...

like:
English (any dialect)
Spanish (preferrably from Castilia, but really anything but Argentinian)

dislike:
some German dialects

The most beautiful language in the world is Spanish, and the latino women are hot as well. :D

Seconded!

I think many ppl think of German as a very harsh and hostile language because of those WWII films. But German can be sweet and soft to the ears, and its beautiful.
Dutch on the other hand, sounds so awful, like radio static. When you type it, it looks like someone sat on a keyboard. I hate the way the "g" is pronounced.

I dislike Korean as it sounds so harsh and rough.
I think Scottish is like a dumb version of English (No offence)
I also cringned at Thai....I dont know why, I just hate it

That must be something like what we Finns experience with Hungarians (and the other way around of course). Sounds similar, you can pick up a word here and a word there. But not really understand a thing. Mind you, I think Hungarian still sounds pleasant. And their accent when speaking Finnish is wonderful.

I do love the way Russian and French sound. Especially the S's and L's in Russian.

When I saw the title of the thread I thought of Danish since it sounds like they have their mouth full of potatoes. Then I saw that you put Swedish in the same poll option as Danish. :(

French, Chinese, and Latin sound really nice.

I hate some parts of Russian, people speak it way too much on the subway, although sometimes it sounds nice, some dialects of Spanish (I don't think I need to elaborate), and Arabic, its really hard for me to catch anything.

I agree with the whole Flemmish part, although I must say my dialect (West-Flemish) is probably one of the hardest and least understandable Dutch variants there is.

But it is oh so beautifull.. it almost feels like the polders and humans able to communicate to each other...

( For the Dutch under us ,check out Flip Kowlier or Willem Vermandere)
And I think no language sounds horrible, well maybe just "Dutch" Dutch" ;) :p

Most of the Romance languages and any language with huge vocabulary borrowed from Chinese, including Chinese, Japanese, Korean (well, not really to my ears), and Vietnamese sounds nice.

HATED LANGUAGES
4. Arabic - the words are SO similar to hebrew, so I think I know what you're saying, but then I don't. (Lavan = white in hebrew, in arabic laban means egg or something like that.)
3. German - Saying 'Hi, my name is j_eps, would you like to go out with me?' sounds like you are shouting and want to murder the person you are speaking to, or at least club them over the head repeatedly with a blunt instrument.
2. American English - compare the following: Tonight I am going to paint the whole house in light colours. vs Tonite I am going to paint the whole house in light colors. OR Zed vs Zee. Because we need another letter to confuse with B,C,D,E,G,P,T, and V when talking. If my postal code were B3P 3Z3, I don't think I could tell that to anyone one the phone in America. However If I were to say ZED, Bee Three Pee Three Zed Three isn't near as bad.
1. North Ontario (sudbury) French. French is a beautiful language. However, if someone from sudbury was driving and got a flat tire, instead of saying 'J'ai un pneu crevé', they would say 'Je suis un god-damned flat tire' (with tire being pronounced tie-yur for added frenchiness). That LITERALLY MEANS I AM A GOD DAMNED FLAT TIRE. J'ai is I have. Je suis is I am. Wow, residents of N.Ont.

FAVORITE LANGUAGES
6) British English
5) Dutch
4) Hebrew
3) Italian
2) French
1) Spanish (sure, 32 letters, but only 1 accent, and each letter makes 1 sound and only one sound)

Hungarian for most beautiful. It has this alien-like quality to it (not "outer-space" aliens, but a sound like no other here). Maybe Finnish as well.

EDIT: I take that back. The only ugly language I think is RP. I hate watching old videos with characters using RP. It makes me want to shoot myself.

I think most of the time the ugly/beuatifulness comes from the person's accent not the language itself.
Having said that, I find listening to Japanese very, very annoying.
