Things that irk you

My irks:

1) Barbarians having almost the same colour scheme as the Ethiopians. I confuse them often, sometimes with very unpleasant results.
2) The absence of a casus belli system.
3) My scout getting locked in long before the technology to have open border agreements is discovered.
4) Pikemen damaging my bombers. Come on! They are not flying that low!
5) There always being some interesting development when I think it is high time to quit and go to bed.

no possibilities to trade maps - I mean come on I can end up on some map in some long vanished civilization's ruins, but I can not exchange even a bit of information like where is the sea with my freshly met fellow, who, are still alive and well? Why?

I am very irked right now. I have spent 110 turns fighting off barbs.

That has been my *game*.

Needless to say I rage quit.

How does one build a city and have to fight off all the barbs? I kill them and take out a camp or two, and then two more spawn.

I'm serious--110 turns. I am playing Venice and have two archers, as I can't build anything or get more gold because the barbs just keep attacking.

Prior to BNW, I had no problem playing with raging barbs. It was challenging, but just regular barbs in BNW are a pain in the butt.

I have tried FOUR games tonight and the barbs are just killing me.

And I'm only playing on Prince level.

I might be saying something stupid here, but I think on higher difficulties level the AI kills off more barbs so you do not have to take off everything on your own, thus at prince level you might have more bars troubles

1. Every AI goes for Arts funding. In every single game. Even the science civs.

2. Nuclear Missiles have a range of 12. 12!

3. The Tech tree after the Renaissance is ridiculous and bad for the AI.

4. Every tech in the Information Era starts the United Nations. Why not Globalization only? You are ruining my tech victory.

5. Fewer title screens than in Gods and Kings

6. Minor graphical things. Strange monuments, homogenous army styles for every civ from afrika to eurasia or Theodoras right boob. What is up with that?

1. I can ask other Civs not to settle near my borders, or not to spy me, but I cant ask them not to convert my Cities! I cant ask them what his army is doing near my borders too :)
2. Polish and Austrian colors should be switched!
3. SC Ragusa should be named Dubrovnik!
4. Nature wonders are 90% in CS's borders... Good to be Venice or Austria, too bad for Spain.
5. Krakatoa is always in the middle of ocean... Haven't seen single game when it was inside someones borders.
6. I can bombard cities and units, but I cant bombard a title improvments. Air force is using to demolish enemies infrastructure too in real life!
7. Helicopter can pass a title with mountain, but cant pass a title with sea!

whenever i conquer a capital city, all its great works from the palace, oxford, heroic and national epic disappear
if anyone has found a way that has worked around this problem, please post it below, this problem needs to be fixed in a patch
It's important as sometimes when i invade cities for great works, only to find out the painting was in the palace.

agree with first point strongly, neutral for second, Ragusa is in Sicily, Italy, Dubrovnik is in Croatia

4. mostly happens but someone always snaps krakatoa in the late eras

6. great idea!

7.cant say much though its valid and i will add another point

8. more modern wonders, just look at dubai or japan or china, malaysia has the petronas towers!!

What about this pet peeve...

Just built the Oracle (or any wonder) and it looks really great sitting to the left of my city on a hill. Fancy.

Game crashes. Have to reload.

What's this? THE ORACLE IS IN THE OCEAN NOW!?!? Sigh...

For me, Civ V turns pass faster than Civ IV turns in the late game. I guess Civ IV has more data to process (more cities, no 1UPT) which could result in some bottleneck slowing it down. How large maps are you playing? I typically only play standard.

The main slow down in late game Civ IV was because it recalculated all the possible trade routes every turn to determine the most lucrative ones.

The new modern ship power dynamics (since G&K but anyway).

Original:
- Destroyer, the low-power ship that has awesome speed, interception chance and bonus against subs. Requires no resources. Jack of all trades.
- Battleship, has the biggest guns but is very slow and requires oil. Good for taking on enemy ships, perfect for bombarding enemy coastal positions, but weak against air power and subs if unescorted.
- Missile cruiser, battleship's brother. Has smaller guns, but more speed. Requires aluminum. Decent for bombarding, specializes in air defense and launching missiles.
- Nuclear submarine, the ultimate ship killer. Is fast and has by far the strongest attack, but can't attack enemy land positions on its own. Requires aluminum, and is also vulnerable against air attacks.
- Carrier, the air power where you need it. Planes on board can be used to attack enemies in water and land alike.

That's five different ships, each very good in their own way, for their own purposes. What have we got now?

- Missile cruiser. Requires no special resources, is the fastest, has the best ranged attack, has air defense on board, can launch nukes, can see subs, has attack bonus against subs.
- Nuclear sub, which is weaker in almost every respect, needs aluminum to work but is invisible and has +1 extra sight.
- Carrier, same as before.

The original navy system had the most diversity I have ever seen in a Civilization navy. I had total of five ships to choose from, and each choice had important pros and cons. I could mass a lethal fleet of specialized ships, each doing its own thing, with destroyers and missile subs guarding the backs of the battleships and missile cruisers raining death on the enemy positions. Now missile cruiser is battleship, destroyer and missile sub, all in the same package, being The Fastest, The Deadliest against land and sea units alike, The Interceptor King and still retains its launch capacity of course!

One thing that irks me is not being able to shoot over a lake with a ranged unit. Another thing that irks me is being in sp for a while and then steam disconnects so I end up losing most of my sp progress and have to re open the latest auto save to re continue. I have to save a lot more often in sp because of this.

Things that progress

The elongated Tech Tree. The Tree felt stretched to the limits in Civilization 5. Game objectives inevitably have to do with "rewards" and "promotions" delaying the process apparently just to delay it, results in a slower (less interesting) game without improvement of play.

"Please wait" Clearly we are dealing with hardware that takes time to process data but in BNW with my i5 quad, GTX650 card, I find that "please wait" between turns is taking over, typically lasting from 30-50 seconds. In most games I'm staring at the "wait" icon longer than I'm taking to make my moves.

New Unit Purchases Blocked I'm not stopped from building new units. When complete, I am instructed to move the stacked unit. If I want to buy a unit and have another unit of the same generic type in the city, I'm blocked and have to move out the similar unit first. Just get rid of that. 1UPT is fine but not when buying units.

What I've noticed is we went back to the fast initial load and longer turns now. I'd rather just wait longer in the beginning and have less waiting during the game.

Isn't this only true for Lake Victoria?

Shouldn't be true for that, either, I admit.

I think this and possibly the land getting filled up a lot quicker. Most AI have at least 3 cities between turns 60-70 on immortal, and the expansionists keep putting more out as well.

If that doesn't happen on previous levels, there's bound to be more barb camps spawning. I find barbs to be effectively out of the game by about turn 100 on immortal.

Time and time again the bad decisions the city governor makes when aquiring new tiles through border expansion.

Too many times my borders are not even fully extended to cover the full three tile radius around my city, yet the governor feels that reaching out to grab STONE that is FOUR tiles away will be of use to the city. What good is that to anyone? It's okay if it's a luxury or a strategic resource that I'm short of, but stone??

When an AI computer has 20+ air units and the game has to show you each, one at a time, flying in, attacking, and then leaving.

Or how about setting the game on quick but setting max turns to 999 doesn't do as it will lower the turns to 330. Or how about me and a friend are in the year 1960, turn 250, and we've teamed up on research and are about to get combustion and other civs have uranium. Or even better, we both have like 6 cities, and other civs are in the 20's-30's...............................WTH

Some terrible UI "features":
3. leader screens popping up. I move my scout 1 tile, meet an unmet player and his screen pops up. No, i am not a friend of liberty, go away!

LOL. I can't wait til the next time Washington is in one of my games; I'm going to think this!

Air unit attacks are way too long. I don't want to use quick combat because I like following the flow of battle on my opponent's turn, but the air strikes are unbearable. Flying out... Circling... Circling... Circling... Flying home.

I do love that you'll see the nearby intercepting Destroyer or whatever firing it's AA guns during the attack.
