Things you thought when you were a noob

I'm still a noob, and this is what I think/do

-I don't like slavery because I can't use it effectively, but at least I don't whip on the first turn of production anymore.
-I don't use nationalism.
-I will try to get every tech, and then the comp. gives me the dreaded "you're becoming too advanced"

But at least I can beat noble fairly easily.

When I was a noob, I wouldn't give in to any requests for gifts. "You're my competitor, why should I help you"

I went nuts trying to found every religion I could and build every wonder.

I put off researching Steel because I could build wonders with other Techs:rolleyes:

Hated Slavery, thought Serfdom was great.

Used Great Prophets to build shrines for religions that were only in two cities.

Went hard for Space Elevator.

I had a few things to learn, obviously.

I'm sure something like this has been mentioned, but I would change to a new civic every time I reached the tech and was prompted by the game to switch. I just thought that a new civic meant a better civic.

I also thought the granary was a useless building and cottages were a useless tile improvement.

I didn't know you could give units promotions until my second game. I did also wonder throughout the first game what those numbers behind a units name stood for..duh

I also initially thought cottages were useless..

Oh yeah, I also thought that city tiles extended three spaces instead of two, so I built all of my cities six tiles apart.

lolol

I used to give myself a bonus by giving myself 5 cities to begin with and putting them right next to each other. I wondered why my cities never grew, has close to no production, and why I went bankrupt.

I used to think Nationalism was worthless. Then I found out where the screen for looking at a city was. Then I found the draft buton. Then I found out the easiest way to get a somewhat free army of advanced units is to draft a few when you have the right tech from a large city. It also saved me the 100s of times I didn't bother too much with an army.

Gotta love summoning an army from thin air.

Nevermind, I didn't see page 9. XD

Just how many of these future techs can there be? I wonder what the award is at the end...

I used to keep researching future tech after I completed the tech tree, even though all of my cities were well below their happiness and health cap.

Always chose a Civ that started with Mysticism so I could found Buddhism or Hinduism.

Try to found as many religions as possible.

I didn't know how - I couldn't find the "hurry production" button. I had to Google it to find out where it was.

I felt like I had to try to build EVERY wonder

Used Great Prophets to build shrines for religions that were only in two cities.

All of the above.

And I didn't understand that you needed to build a road to use a resource. I couldn't figure out why I couldn't build Axemen when I had Bronze Working. After I figured that out, I thought having more than one of each resource was really helpful.

I used to think that if you founded a city on ivory the elephants would trample your citizens

Now that's just awesome

I don't know if this has been mentioned... but I used to think the AI stopped being stupid as you increased the difficulty settings.

Bc designing an AI that actually "plays the game" is completely impossible.
