Ok im starting to see that im in a bad situation, i was 3rd from the top in power, playing on large archipelago. Permanent alliances allowed, and out of nowhere, the 1st and 2nd civs permant ally the 4th and 5th civs, so now theres 5 civs higher up, and theres 4 other civs that i can deal with individually. Im currently at war with one of them, and 2 are helping me. The big powers are out of it so far. Im thinking about permanent allying the 6th civ, and vassalizing the other 3, before i take on the big powers. Currently have the ability to make infantry, just got that, still on cannons and frigates/ironclads though. Im playing as japan, so i get promos on my infantry without worrying about it. So far all the major resources are available, and the only real problem is the tech lead the big powers have on me. Whose been in a similar situation, and if you have, how did you work it out?

Well if you start dealing becarefull of their oppions of each other, I have 'accidently' destroyed the computers oppion of me by just dealing without looking But being in a war with several computers at one time (Which is the way it is looking ya are heading) is just harsh no-matter which way ya look at it. Being on Arch is going to make it hard... Make sure your cities are well defended, and would suggest keeping some boats in you cities (Work boats too since they will prob pillage some before you can stop them) If there are any one out of the big groups I would try to either make them a friend or take them out first.. and btw.. if anyone has uranium/aluminum.. stay away from nukes! heh.. (That is IMO... hate being nuked so leave that up to you)... The tech lead thing isn't as much of a prob as you think, it just means your going to have to hit them on production..

Finally when it all kicks off.. keep your cities safe the best you can and hit which ever one of them you think is the closest.. (If things get really bad you can get back the fastest heh) But just stick to one till ya get it done, make peace when ya can/want to.. and stick to it.

Edit:Almost forgot.. don't give up on the science altogether.. Ya don't want to fall /too far/ back.. But some is not bad at all.

You need to apply the Sirian Doctrine. More specifically, conquer the small fry while researching up to modern units. Then crush the superpowers from the sea.

Ok ive played a little more now. I permanently allied the 6th place, and together we took over the 2nd and 3rd spots in the rankings. I ended the war with the weak civ, because the unrest was cutting into my production and science too much. The permanent ally i made gave me a nice boost in research though, so now i can make alot of the modern units, only problem is oil, because the oil i have i in the ocean, and i cant make platforms yet, but im researching that right now. Im gonna vassalize all the weak civs, and then take on the 1st power, before i take on the 3rd one, ill get the 3rd on my side when i fight the 1st.
