This is historically incorrect!

Sometimes you folks crack me up....Civ3 is historically inaccurate?..you bet it is!!

Would you like to have the Zulus eat the bodies of their victims...they were cannibals!! Heck...lots of cannibals still exist in Africa. Or how about the Japanese....want them to be historically accurate and torture and murder all the Chinese and US prisoners. And those wonderful Aztecs...let's have them cut the live beating hearts out of their prisoners....

Civ3 treats all these historical terrorists way too nicely....if they want to make Ghengis Khan look like th cruel barbarian he was..more power to them.

All I am saying is the picture of Genghis Khan is inaccurate, plain and simple… Don’t have to be a rocket scientist to figure out he was almost beaten to death with the ugly stick… now if he did look like that fine… but he didn’t… heck look at it – he looks disfigured…

can you do the same for Isabella :D

Thanks, I debated about uploading the altered flics, but I didn't think anyone would be interested in a bustier Joan.

I did some research and discovered that in 1207 Genghis accidently rode over a large wasp nest. He was then stung in the face repeatedly for about 3 hours at which point his 'horde' (similiar to modern day American slang 'posse') was able to free him. Unfortunately, his face swelled up like a lumpy semi-hard ball of gravy. It was from this incident that Firaxis designed the image.

Honest.

I'm not making this up.

Americans don't lie.

You got a better explanation?

Hey we could make a list of possible reasons Firaxis made Genghis look like he does and send it to them.

Reason #2:

Firaxis got the story of Samson and Delilah mixed up and thought she cut off all of Genghis' hair.

Well, he may not have been THAT ugly, but don't take the Chinese pictures of him too seriously. For one thing, they depict Genghis as a nice old man, and for another, they basically make him Chinese.

Firaxis may have gone overboard, but at least they were trying.

My bad, forgot Genghis was African....

If your copy of Joan has "natural" body parts and not implants, then when she gets older gravity will have an effect, so maybe it's just as well you left her alone.

Hey teturkhan, why do you think that the pictures you uploaded at the top of this thread are any more accurate? They are probably impressions of a legendary figure rather than true portraits. Can you imagine Genghis sitting still for weeks as an artist created an accurate portrait?

He'd probably get up and kill the artist after ten minutes a la Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure.

Sorry to borrow this phrase from Zouave, but "fix it Firaxis!"

I hope they do. Probably not much chance of that huh?

He looks like his mother and father were brother and sister ...

And like his grandparents (all two of them) were too. And probably their parents, and their parent's parents. Probably a few more generations added in...

I guess Higher Game told them what non-american mongols were supposed to look like. ;-).

Seriously though, Firaxis really need to stop hiring idiotic carricature makers with no notions of history for creating the leaders art.

The more accurate the leader, in his or her looks, expressions, comments during negotiations the better. It couldn’t be that hard to do, so why not?

Personally If I am dealing with Gandhi, I would expect him to be funny, humble, always seeking peace – and of course have a smile on his face most of the time, if I am dealing with Genghis Khan well I know he never liked to show emotion-weakness, very serious. As a matter of fact they say once in battle he lost one of his grandchildren who happened to be accompanying him… he never let on how upset he was to any of his soldiers or those around him, but afterwards he mourned in private… kind of gives you an idea of the man… and the animation should reflect this in my view…

Most important though is to at the very least havie the look of the leader right, the basic features anyway…

I didn't think Civ Leaders aged.

So how much do you think gravity would've affected her after the first 4000 years in say, 0 AD, how would you picture her at 5500 years old in 1500 AD.:D

Oh..... not good..... must.... get..... images..... out..... of..... my.... head.......

ugh.........

Not sure, you would have to ask them - sure it would be offensive to a Mongolian - after all he is their national hero :)

I like to think there is at an element of realism with the various civilizations in the game - that picture is purely fictional, the only thing real is the background which shows some Yurts… For a person who doesn't know better I am sure it is no big deal - so what if he is made to be ugly, no beard, flat nose, more of a monster than human - he is Genghis Khan the evil war monger – serves him right.

I don’t care for this type of reasoning, but whatever… if people are cool with it fine… why not add some horns, snake tongue etc – give it even more flavor? How about Catherine the Great, she is rumored to have been anything but virtuous – why not have her appear as a whore - with a few horses running around in the back? Have you heard the rumor on how she died?

Point is once again, that regardless of rumors etc, there should be an effort to maintain the historical accuracy of the Game. This is a historical based one after all :)

So now I should care if I offend rapists, cannibals and terrorists?

I think not

What are we debating here?
I thought this debate was on how Genghis Khan didn't look right - more deformed than realistic...

Sounds to me like you are trying to justify him looking like that because you don’t like him - nice logic. Let’s distort history, take fiction over fact just because we don’t like someone or some people – get real.

Mongols caused lots of death and destruction, but so did almost every other civilization. History is full of blood of innocents, sad but true, but it is nevertheless part of our history like it or not. If you find Genghis Khan too offensive see if you can replace him with Mr. Rogers, maybe even throw in the Sesame Street Gang – should make for a very interesting game, oh yeah don't forget Barney :D

I prefer Genghis Khan in the game as leader of the Mongols - I just don't care for the way they made him look.

And whats with this talk of Rapists, Terrorists and Cannibals? I am guessing here but are you trying to say Asians and other ethnic people are like this?
