BLOWIN' IN THE WIND
peter paul and mary

How many roads must a man walk down
Before they call him a man
How many seas must a white dove sail
Before she sleeps in the sand
How many times must a cannonball fly
Before they're forever banned
The answer my friend is blowin' in the wind
The answer is blowin' in the wind

How many years must a mountain exist
Before it is washed to the sea
How many years can some people exist
Before they're allowed to be free
How many times can a man turn his head
And pretend that he just doesn't see
The answer my friend is blowin' in the wind
The answer is blowin' in the wind

How many times must a man look up
Before he can see the sky
How many ears must one man have
Before he can hear people cry
How many deaths will it take 'til he knows
That too many peoples have died
The answer my friend is blowin' in the wind
The answer is blowin' in the wind
The answer is blowin' in the wind

Hey Boann, we seem to have a few songs in common! :) In fact, the #2 song listed in the 2nd thread above yours (Title: "Peace (3 songs)" ) is "Blowin' In The Wind" by Peter, Paul, and Mary! ;) The reason I combined some songs into single posts is both to reduce excess postcounts and group similar songs together... I just could not chop some out!! :goodjob:

guess i missed that :o
:D :goodjob:

guess i missed that
Come to think of it, the song was hard to see because it was buried and not in the title. I've now changed it so all 3 songs are mentioned up front ;).

Smoke Rings in the Dark
sung by Gary Allen

I won't make you tell me,
What I've come to understand.
Your a certain kind of woman
I'm different kind of man.

I've tried to make you love me,
You've tried to find the spark
Of a flame that burned but some how turned
To smoke rings in the dark.

I know I must be going
'Cause love's already gone.
And all I'm taking with me are the pieces of my heart
And all I'll leave are smoke rings in the dark.

The lonliness with in me
Takes a heavy toll.
'Cause it burns as slow as wisky
Through an empty, aching soul.

And the night is like a dagger,
Long, and cold, and sharp
As I sit her on the front steps
Blowing smoke rings in the dark.

I know I must be going
'Cause love's already gone.
And all I'm taking with me are the pieces of my heart
And all I'll leave are smoke rings in the dark.

The rain falls where it wants to
The wind blows where it will
Everything on earth goes somewhere
But I'd swear we're standing still.

So I don't want to wake you
I'll go easy on your heart.
I'll just touch your face and drift away
Like smoke rings in the dark.

I know I must be going
'Cause love's already gone.
And all I'm taking with me are the pieces of my heart
And all I'll leave are smoke rings in the dark.

A couple of good Led Zeppelin songs....

"The Rain Song"

This is the springtime of my loving - the second season I am to know
You are the sunlight in my growing - so little warmth I've felt before.
It isn't hard to feel me glowing - I watched the fire that grew so low.

It is the summer of my smiles - flee from me Keepers of the Gloom.
Speak to me only with your eyes. It is to you I give this tune.
Ain't so hard to recognize - These things are clear to all from
time to time.

I've felt the coldness of my winter
I never thought it would ever go. I cursed the gloom that set upon us...
But I know that I love you so

These are the seasons of emotion and like the winds they rise and fall
This is the wonder of devotion - I see the torch we all must hold.
This is the mystery of the quotient - Upon us all a little rain must fall.

"Gallows Pole"

Hangman, hangman, hold it a little while,
Think I see my friends coming, Riding a many mile.
Friends, did you get some silver?
Did you get a little gold?
What did you bring me, my dear friends, To keep me from the Gallows Pole?
What did you bring me to keep me from the Gallows Pole?

I couldn't get no silver, I couldn't get no gold,
You know that we're too damn poor to keep you from the Gallows Pole.
Hangman, hangman, hold it a little while,
I think I see my brother coming, riding a many mile.
Brother, did you get me some silver?
Did you get a little gold?
What did you bring me, my brother, to keep me from the Gallows Pole?

Brother, I brought you some silver,
I brought a little gold, I brought a little of everything
To keep you from the Gallows Pole.
Yes, I brought you to keep you from the Gallows Pole.

Hangman, hangman, turn your head awhile,
I think I see my sister coming, riding a many mile.
Sister, I implore you, take him by the hand,
Take him to some shady bower, save me from the wrath of this man,
Please take him, save me from the wrath of this man.

Hangman, hangman, upon your face a smile,
Pray tell me that I'm free to ride,
Ride for many mile.

Oh, yes, you got a fine sister, She warmed my blood from cold,
Brought my blood to boiling hot To keep you from the Gallows Pole,
Your brother brought me silver, Your sister warmed my soul,
But now I laugh and pull so hard And see you swinging on the Gallows Pole

Swingin' on the gallows pole!

I love bluegrass and this is one of my favorite songs from Alison Krauss and Union Staion. Describes a particular person I know perfectly. I wish he could hear this...

Lucky One
Alison Krauss and Union Station

You're the lucky one so I've been told
Free as the wind blowing down the road
Loved by many hated by none
I would say you were lucky 'cause I know what you've done.

Not a care in the world, not a worry in sight,
Everything's gonna be alright 'cause you're the lucky one.

You're the lucky one always having fun
A jack of all trades a master of none
You look at the world with your smiling eye
And laugh at the devil as his train goes by.

Give you a song and one-night stand,
You'll be looking at a happy man, 'cause your the lucky one.

Well, you're blessed, I guess
By never knowing which road you're choosing
To you, the next best thing to playing and winning
Is playing and losing.

You're the lucky one, I know that now
Don't ask you why, when where or how
No matter where you're at, that's where you'll be
You can be your luck won't follow me.

Give you a song and one-night stand
You'll be looking at a happy man, 'cause you're the lucky one.

And a couple from Skynyrd:

"Simple Man"

Mama told me when I was young
Come sit beside me, my only son
And listen closely to what I say.
And if you do this it will help you some sunny day.

Take your time... Don't live too fast
Troubles will come and they will pass.
Go find a woman and you'll find love
And don't forget son, there is someone up above.

(Chorus) And be a simple kind of man.
Be something you love and understand.
Be a simple kind of man.
Won't you do this for me son, If you can?

Forget your lust for the rich man's gold
All that you need is in your soul
And you can do this if you try.
All that I want for you my son is to be satisfied.

(Chorus)

Boy, don't you worry... you'll find yourself.
Follow you heart and nothing else.
And you can do this if you try.
All I want for you my son is to be satisfied.

(Chorus)

"The Ballad of Curtis Loew"

Well I used to wake the morning before the rooster crowed
Searching for soda bottles to get myself some dough
Brought 'em down to the corner, down to the country store
Cash 'em in and give my money to a man named Curtis Loew

Old Curt was a black man with white curly hair
When he had a fifth of wine he did not have a care
He used to own an old dobro, used to play it across his knee
I'd give old Curt my money, he'd play all day for me

(Chorus) Play me a song Curtis Loew, Curtis Loew
I got your drinking money, tune up your dobro
People said he was useless, them people are the fools
'Cause Curtis Loew was the finest picker to ever play the blues

He looked to be sixty, and maybe I was ten
Mama used to whoop me but I'd go see him again
I'd clap my hands, stomp my feets, try to stay in time
He'd play me a song or two
Then take another drink of wine.

(Chorus)

On the day old Curtis died, nobody came to pray
Ol' preacher said some words, and they chunked him in the clay
But he lived a lifetime playin' the black man's blues
And on the day he lost his life, that's all he had to lose

Play me a song Curtis Loew, Hey Curtis Loew
I wish that you was here so everyone would know
People said he was useless, them people all are fools
'Cause Curtis you're the finest picker to ever play the blues

DON'T PULL YOUR LOVE
Hamilton, Joe Frank & Reynolds

Don't pull your love out on me baby

If you do then I think that maybe

I'll just lay me down and cry for a hundred years

Don't pull your love out on me honey

Take my heart, my soul, my money

But don't leave me drownin' in my tears

You say you're gonna leave

Gonna take that big white bird

Gonna fly right out of here

Without a single word

Don't you know you'll break my heart

When I watch you close that door

Cause I know I won't see you anymore

Don't pull your love out on me baby

If you do then I think that maybe

I'll just lay me down and cry for a hundred years

Don't pull your love out on me honey

Take my heart, my soul, my money

But don't leave me drownin' in my tears

Haven't I been good to you

What about that brand new ring

Doesn't that mean love to you

Doesn't that mean anything

If I threw away my pride

And I got down on my knees

Would I have to beg you, "pretty please"

Don't pull your love out on me baby

If you do then I think that maybe

I'll just lay me down and cry for a hundred years

Don't pull your love out on me honey

Take my heart, my soul, my money

But don't leave me drownin' in my tears

There's so much I wanna do

I've got love enough for two

But I'll never use it girl if I don't have you

Don't pull your love out on me baby

If you do then I think that maybe

I'll just lay me down and cry for a hundred years

Don't pull your love out on me honey

Take my heart, my soul, my money

But don't leave me drownin' in my tears

FIRE ON THE MOUNTAIN
Marshall Tucker Band

Took my fam'ly away from our Carolina home
Had dreams about the west and started to roam
Six long months on a dust covered trail
They say heaven's at the end
But so far it's been hell

And there's fire on the mountain
Lightening in the air
Gold in them hills and it's waiting for me there

We were digging and shifting from five to five
Selling ev'rything we found just to stay alive
Gold flowed free like the whiskey in the bars
Sinning was the big thing Lord
And satan was the star

And there's fire on the mountain
Lightening in the air
Gold in them hills and it's waiting for me there

Dance hall girls were the evening treat
Empty cartridges and blood lined the gutters of the street
Men were shot down for the sake of fun
Or just to hear the noise of their 44 guns

And there's fire on the mountain
Lightening in the air
Gold in them hills and it's waiting for me there

Now my widow, she weeps by my grave
Tears flow free for her man she couldn't save
Shot down in cold blood by a gun that carried fame
All for a useless and no good worthless claim

And there's fire on the mountain
Lightening in the air
Gold in them hills and it's waiting for me there

One of my all-time favorites (written by Burt Bacharach and performed by Love)

My Little Red Book

I just got out my little red book
The minute that you said goodbye
I thumbed right through my little red book
I wasn't gonna sit and cry
And I went from A to Z
I took out every pretty girl in town
They danced with me and as I held them

All I did was talk about you
Hear your name and I'd start to cry
There's just no getting over you... oh, no...

There ain't no girl in my little red book
Who could ever replace your charms
And each girl in my little red book
Knows you're the one I'm thinkin' of
Oh won't you please come back
Without your precious love I can't go on
Where can love be I need you so much

All I did was talk about you
Hear your name and I'd start to cry
There's just no getting over you... oh, no...

Oh won't you please come back
Without your precious love I can't go on
It's haunting me I need you so much

All I did was talk and talk about you
Hear your name and I'd start to cry
There's just no getting over you
All I did was talk and talk about you
Hear your name and I'd start to cry
There's just no getting over you... oh no

ONLY YOU
the platters

Only you can make this world seem right
Only you can make the darkness bright
Only you and you alone
Can thrill me like you do
And fill my heart with love for only you

Only you can make this change in me
For it's true you are my destiny
When you hold my hand I understand
The magic that you do
You're my dream come true
My one and only you

Only you can make this change in me
For it's true you are my destiny
When you hold my hand I understand
The magic that you do
You're my dream come true
My one and only you

I like those Songs, Boann and SlowwHand. :)

I think I should know some of the ones listed by some others, but can't recall. Too bad we can't somehow get a short music example of each, also.

Fire
Crazy World Of Arthur Brown

I am the god of hell f ire and I bring you:
Fire, I'll take you to burn.
Fire, I'll take you to learn.
I'll see you burn!
You fought hard and you saved and learned,
but all of it's going to burn.
And your mind, your tiny mind,
you know you've really been so blind.
Now 's your time burn your mind.
You're falling far too far behind.
Oh no, oh no, oh no, you gonna burn!
Fire, to destroy all you've done.
Fire, to end all you've become.
I'll feel you burn!
You've been living like a little girl,
in the middle of your little world.
And your mind, your tiny mind,
you know you've really been so blind.
Now 's your time burn your mind,
you're falling far too far behind.

by Gerry Goffin and Carole King

Tonight you're mine completely
You give your love so sweetly
Tonight the light of love is in your eyes
But will you love me tomorrow?

Is this a lasting treasure
Or just a moment's pleasure?
Can I believe the magic of your sighs?
Will you still love me tomorrow?

Tonight with words unspoken
You say that I'm the only one
But will my heart be broken
When the night meets the morning sun?

I'd like to know that your love
Is love I can be sure of
So tell me now, and I won't ask again
Will you still love me tomorrow?
Will you still love me tomorrow?

What a surprise, Magnus.
I was coming to post this song, because it was sung on "Good Morning America" by Carole for the NYC rescuers.:)

You've Got a Friend
Carole King

When you're down and troubled
and you need a helping hand
and nothing, whoa nothing is going right.
Close your eyes and think of me
and soon I will be there
to brighten up even your darkest nights.

You just call out my name,
and you know whereever I am
I'll come running, oh yeah baby
to see you again.
Winter, spring, summer, or fall,
all you have to do is call
and I'll be there, yeah, yeah, yeah.
You've got a friend.

If the sky above you
should turn dark and full of clouds
and that old north wind should begin to blow
Keep your head together and call my name out loud
and soon I will be knocking upon your door.
You just call out my name and you know where ever I am
I'll come running to see you again.
Winter, spring, summer or fall
all you got to do is call
and I'll be there, yeah, yeah, yeah.

Hey, ain't it good to know that you've got a friend?
People can be so cold.
They'll hurt you and desert you.
Well they'll take your soul if you let them.
Oh yeah, but don't you let them.

You just call out my name and you know wherever I am
I'll come running to see you again.
Oh babe, don't you know that,
Winter spring summer or fall,
Hey now, all you've got to do is call.
Lord, I'll be there, yes I will.
You've got a friend.
You've got a friend.
Ain't it good to know you've got a friend.
Ain't it good to know you've got a friend.
You've got a friend.

Sara - Unedited version
(Stevie Nicks)
Fleetwood Mac

"I wanna be a star...I don't wanna be a cleaning lady"

Wait a minute baby
Stay with me a while
Said you'd give me light
But you never told me about the fire

Ooooh...
Ooh hoo...
Ooh hoo...

Drowning in the sea of love
Where everyone would love to drown
But now it's gone
It doesn't matter what for
When you build your house
Then call me home...

Ooh hoo...
Hoo hoo...
Ooh hoo...

And he was just like a great dark wing
Within the wings of a storm
I think I had met my match
He was singing
And undoing...And undoing...the laces
Undoing the laces...

Drowing in the sea of love
It's where everyone would love to drown
And now its gone
It doesn't matter what for
No sorrow for sorrow
You can have no more

Said Sara, you're the poet in my heart
Never change...never stop
But now it's gone
It doen't matter what for
But when you build your house
Oh then, call me home...

Hold on
The night is coming
And the starling flew for days
I'd stay home at night...all the time
I'd go anywhere...anywhere...anywhere
Ask me and (undoing) I'm there...yeah
Ask me and (undoing) I'm there...'cause I care
(The laces....the laces)
I care...

...In the sea of love
Where everyone would love to drown
But now it's gone
They say it doesn't matter anymore
If you build your house
Then please call me...home

Sara...you're the poet in my heart
Never change...and don't you ever stop
Now it's gone
No..it doesn't matter anymore
When you build your house
I'll come by...

Oh, dreaming...
And the wind became...crazy
And he reached her gently
Dreaming and the wind became....crazy
And there the heartbeat...
When it never really died

Dreaming (Ooh)...never really died (Ooh why)
Would you swallow all your pride (Ooh)
Could you speak a little louder (Ooh why)
Dreaming (Ooh)...
All I ever wanted (Ooh why)
Was to know that you are(Ooh) dreaming (Ooh why)
But there's a heartbeat and it never really dies (Ooh)
Never really died (Ooh why)
No, it never really died (Ooh why)
Never really died (Ooh why)
Could you speak a little louder (Ooh)
Swallow all your pride (Ooh why)
...(Ooh why)
Never change (Ooh why)..never change (Ooh)
And the wind (Ooh why) became...
It became (Ooh why) crazy...(Ooh why)
(Ooh why) And listen for that (Ooh why) crazy wind
Because it will make you (Ooh why) dream a while
And (Ooh why) there's a heartbeat
(Smile for my darling)
Well it never really died
Dreaming...and the wind became (Ooh why)
(Smile for my Sara)
Became crazy...(Ooh why)
(Smile for my Sara).......

One of my favourite tracks of all time!!

Artist: The Offspring (Written by AFI)
Track: Total Immortal
Album: Me, Myself and Irene Soundtrack (AFI's "All Hallows EP")

Hope unkown.
Sometimes just waking is surreal.
I walk right through the nameless ones.
I know that hope's unknown.
Sometimes the water feels so real.
As I walk through it fills my lungs, my god, I'm drowning.

This day never seems to end.
This pain, never.
The rage I will not let go.
I hear them calling.
I feel them gnawing out holes through flawless souls.

So alone.
Sometimes I swear that I can hear the taunting of the voiceless ones.
I fear that I alone fear those ceased to feel they're alone inside of this place.
I am the misplaced.

Now every face, it looks familiar... then every face would melt away until.. now everyone, do you know, I know your deception?

Part of the Union by Strawbs.

Now I'm a union man
Amazed at what I am
I say what I think
That the company stinks
Yes I'm a union man.

When we meet in the local hall
I'll be voting with them all
With a hell of a shout
It's out brothers out
And the rise of the factory's fall.

Oh you don't get me I'm part of the union
You don't get me I'm part of the union
You don't get me I'm part of the union
Till the day I die, till the day I die.

As a union man I'm wise
To the lies of the company spies
And I don't get fooled
By the factory rules
'Cause I always read between the lines.

And I always get my way
If I strike for higher pay
When I show my card
To the Scotland Yard
This what I say.

Oh you don't get me I'm part of the union
You don't get me I'm part of the union
You don't get me I'm part of the union
Till the day I die, till the day I die.

Before the union did appear
My life was half as clear
Now I've got the power
To the working hour
And every other day of the year.

So though I'm a working man
I can ruin the government's plan
Though I'm not too hard
The sight of my card
Makes me some kind of superman.

Oh you don't get me I'm part of the union
You don't get me I'm part of the union
You don't get me I'm part of the union
Till the day I die, till the day I die.

Non, je ne regrette rien
Charles Dumont / Michel Vaucaire / Edith Piaf

Non, rien de rien,
non, je ne regrette rien!
Ni le bien qu'on m'a fait,
ni le mal;
tout ça m'est bien egal!

Non, rien de rien,
non, je ne regrette rien!
C'est payé,
balayé,
oublié.
Je me fous du passé!

Avec mes souvenirs
j'ai allumé le feu!
Mes chagrins, mes plaisirs,
je n'ai plus besoin d'eux!
Balayés les amours
avec leurs trémolos,
balayer pour toujours!
Je repars à zéro.

Non, rien de rien,
non, je ne regrette rien!
Ni le bien qu'on m'a fait,
ni le mal;
tout ça m'est bien egal!

Non, rien de rien,
non, je ne regrette rien!
Car ma vie,
car me joies
aujourd'hui
ça commence avec toi!

Je suis tres sorry about les French, but it does not sound tres biens otherwise.
