Mysterious City of Gold
Was just napping a bit, as is my habit, when an old parable came into my head.
There was a man who lived near a river which was prone to dangerous flooding. One day, a warning came through that the river was going to flood, big time. But the man was a pious man, and he said, "I need not worry, God will take care of me".
And so he stayed put.
Then a local emergency services car came past offering to help him evacuate. But he refused, citing his trust in God.
And so he stayed put.
The waters kept rising, and a neighbour stopped by in his car on his way out, and offered to help him. But the man refused, saying " I needn't worry, as God will take care of me."
And so he stayed put.
The waters rose, and soon flooded the house.
The man remained calm, and took to the roof, waiting for a miracle. A speedboat manned by soldiers pulled up next to him, and they called to him to come with them and get out while he could. But he stayed steadfast in his refusal. "God will take care of me."
And so he stayed put.
And drowned.
His soul ascended to heaven, and came before God, and asked him angrily "Why did you not save me! I kept my faith like no other, but I still drowned."
God smiled and replied: "I sent a media warning, two cars, and a boat. How many more miracles did you want?"
I think this is something that can be taken in mind as a principle, particularly by those who spend a lot of time complaining about a situation, whilst ignoring the way out that stands right in front of them, but which they refuse to see for some reason.
I may not have got the details perfect, but I thought it was a nice little yarn to share.
