Thread closing is NOT the answer

Mods are good. One day, I'll have a chat on my website and I'll have the ultimate power. Of course, everything would be very odd and nobody would visit. The point is that I think that moderators have a hard enough job without having to remember their personal opinions about each individual poster. Wouldn't it be less stressful to consider each post on a case-by-case basis?

That's all very well in the land of sugar cubes and fuzzy bunnies, but here in the fake real world of the Internet, not all things can be as simple. :p Sometimes a bad thread just breeds conflict, even if it does have some valid posts in it. And if people don't like that a thread they were trying to reply to was closed, well, tough bull bits. You probably shouldn't have been replying anyhow. :cooool:

Thread closing and post deletion have been the chosen tools of censorship in many a forum. It hurts to see them here, though it is rare.....

I must say I feel no inclinatiuon whatsoever to come here anymore; I will finish my SGs, keep watching the threads I have subscribed to, but this place seemed to be (and WAS!) something special, and somehow it isn't anymore..... :(

Everything in this world has its hour of glory. Although this is subjective for a website. Maybe you're just bored of this site ? Understandable considering the huge amount of time you seem to have spent here.

no, I am siply fed up by being the idiot who helps the noobs but must watch his mouth like a hawk and has been asked to stay out of OT because he has an opinion.....

edit: and, to clarify: the times I got banned was when I got so angry and fed up that I blew up fully. I have very often shut up when I felt compelled to say something simply because I knew the current...... 'athmosphere'...... would lead to trouble....

maybe if you didnt call new forum members "noobs" Id take you seriously. Unfotunately this is not the case. Treat people like this and I can't understand why anyone would want your help.

 Well that shows how much *you* hang round the Civ3 fora. :rotfl:

The term 'noob' or 'newbie' is not meant in a derogatory way, and if you had spent any time there at all you would know how helpful Killer is and how much of his time he spends on new people to the forums.

There are many people here who treat newbies with contempt, you should scold these people instead. ;) :p

Hear, hear!

I hope your not leaving the GD forum permanently Killer!

A lot of us do really appreciate your presence there!:goodjob:

When all of us sign up for membership for CivFanatics, we agree to the terms and condictions of the site (that's all the text you scroll down and skip before you press the "I Agree" button).

It's stated in black and white, and no one if forcing anyone else to waste their lives reading posts on this messege board. ;-)

So don't "act now; whine later" as the rules are not up to ones interpretation other than that who runs the site.

YOu know that guy who gets mad (huh?)and every once and a while makes a new account and porn-spams the place?

Well, I followed some links and decided through seeing Munzy's moderation, the best way to deal with individual posters being offensive is to do what he did (follow the links within links in the "Red Alert Site Attack" thread).

and anyway, seeing they

Moderator Action: All your post are belong to us
Please read the forum rules: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=422889

is often enough to cool down any heated debate, no matter who was the offender, from what I've witnessed so far.

(am I allowed to even know how to write like a mod? don't worry, I won't abuse it, I was just showing an example).

I think people should stop using the Mod colour and font pretty quickly.

Already I can't tell if D'Artagnan is just taking the piss or if he's crossed the line. (Or both?) :hmm:

Obviously a mod has not see this yet, or they would've made a post severely rebuking our hapless experimentors. ;) Using the mod tags in jest is a severe violation, and rightly so. :ack:

D' Artagnan and Hygro are both banned ONE WEEK for using moderator tags.

And as for people who continue to complain, your noose is tightening, I see your full of it now, so I will make it my buisness to see you gone now.

Mod tags, schmod tags. I don't see the need for anyone besides mods to use them anyway.

Hygro imitated the mod tags, Antonius Block.

It is against the rules to impersonate a mod in any way, and it should stay that way.

Mods usually sign their name with the message, like "Edit by Thunderfall" or "Lefty" and (in most cases) leave a "Last edited tag..." so it's pretty obvious if a mod did that.
