Time to break some hearts --- T&L related.

Have you tried 3d analyser yet? Very worried - if this doesn't work i'll have to return my new laptop tomorrow. :-(

I tried 3D Analyzer -- and to no avail! The program refused to run Civ4. It just sat there no matter how times I hit RUN. And I did choose the correct Civ4 exe file. Sigh!

nevermind restarted my computer I can now click the run but nothing happens with civ but does work with warcraft

Don't spend that much...Dell has some very good online deals now...as does HP.

DON'T buy a Dell and DON'T buy a HP. They are trash machines.

You want a good gaming PC, try here www.pcfanatics.com . I bought mine there and it rocks. 64bit is just awesome and way better deal than Dell or HP which are harder to upgrade.

And get an AMD not a Pentium as AMD handles games better. Nothing against Pentium, just AMD proccessors are just better at gaming.

If this sounds like an advertisement my apologizes. I have no business deals with pcfanatics nor AMD... just my opinnions. :)

A $3500 computer? I couldn't spend that if I tried. I just built one for $1500 with everything top of the line except the cpu ($1000 is a bit much for a cpu).

If you do buy an uber pc, a word to the wise: the geforce 7800gtx runs almost every game at max graphics settings. And it seems to be limited by the 3ghz cpu I got, even overclocked to 3.75ghz.

So don't get a 7800 SLI rig. Until games utilize multiple cpus better, you won't be able to feed them enough data, though you can turn up anti-aliasing, etc if you have two.

But from personal experience, one is all that you need.

srtest.com is wrong. I just wanted to watch the movie here at work (Radeon 7000) and srtest says it is okay. Alas, it's not, and no backgrounds either.

Fingers crossed the Radeon 9000 128MB in my laptop will work.

Have you tried updating your graphics drivers to the latest version? Apparently that fixes problems with intel graphics and pirates!, could do the same here.

This is what it looks like with out T&L.

That is Peter the Great and the grass and plains is black, not to mention other unreadables/unviewables. I will put it on the shelf for now and play Civ 3 until I decide to do something about the computer.

Does a Geforce5200FX support TL?

$3500?

Ratkin, you can buy a desktop that will kick Civ4 in the arse for $900 -$1100, Pentium D, 128mb descrete graphics etc.

Sounds like an Alienware Rig....Yummy.

The only people who like Alienware are the people who never owned Alienware. Do yourself a favor and avoid them like the plague.

yeah im pretty sure it does. not positive, but it should work

I have a hand-me-down Radeon 8500/8500LE that doesn't have T&L and the game surprisingly is working just fine. The cursor jerks around very little, but the wonder splashes have all worked and so far (knock on wood) there have been no graphical problems.

where you get your facts?

8500 supports not only TnL but shaders. one generation AFTER TnL.

I think I won't be able to run the game on my desktop. I bought it in 2002, and it has a Geforce4 MX 440, which I don't think has TnL. Does anyone know for sure? I've tried the online test, but it seems to be down right now.

I have a Geforce4 MX 440 on my laptop. and all i can see is black( except for my units, and rivers and recourses.), but i dont know if it has tnl

Nomo, apparently the MX 440 does have TnL. That's a relief. I don't have any clue why it won't work on your laptop, but maybe someone with some technical knowledge could help.

The laptop with the mx440 should run it, it is TnL capable. for those of you with a desktop on a tight budget that card can be purchased for around $50 in agp. I would recommend to the budget concious, to get at least a 9250 in AGP, that sells for around $75 and if you only have pci slot it will cost around $100
