Timer?

I've been editing old posts for an hour or so trying to make it work, but can't get it to :(

Here's what the BBCode guide says the tag should be formatted like:

[timer=09/02/2012 11:59 PM GMT;Your time is up!]don't know what goes here[/timer]

(month before day as per US convention; 'your time is up' should be the message that displays once the time has elapsed)

but that just gives the following blank space:

[timer=09/02/2012 11:59 PM GMT;Your time is up!]don't know what goes here[/timer]

I'd like to know how this works too as it seems like it could be useful.

[TIMER=8/24/2015 5:00 PM GMT; I like turtles][/TIMER]

The above is how it works on totalwar.org, so I'm not sure why it's not working. This would be extremely useful for the Mafia/NOTW forums.

What does it look like on totalwar.org? Do you get a timer that counts down, or does it just display a message once a certain period of time has elapsed?

[TIMER=9/2/2012 2:00 PM UTC-6;durpdurp][/TIMER]

Wonder if this works ^

EDIT: Nope, it doesn't

Awesome.

I can see this being very handy for IOT and Mafia.

It may force people to say if they are using daylight savings or not :D

This thread will self-destruct in [timer=9/3/2012 10:50 AM EST; Round Over]Round over[/timer]

I was wondering what that new button did. :mischief: I like it personally. Is there a way to make it less specific (ie, only go down to hours, as opposed to seconds)?

I see y'all found it -- we're still discussing policy on its use.

The initial thought is that we'd like to avoid putting it in signatures, as that could get very distracting. Yes, I'm aware that there are a few legitimate uses for it, like the example that Catharsis already has up.

:thanx:

Hai-yaaaa! :ninja: Das is gut.

We could make it a forum games-only affair if you lot're scared, but it'd be very helpful for mod release dates and such.

Spoiler the snag :
Only problem is, I get confused with the dates, as usually only 'Mericans use the MM/DD/YYYY format.

We use the correct date order.

Who the hell says "today is the 12th of July" rather than "today is July 12th". Doesn't make any sense.
