Title Fight

Just shows how strong civ 3 is, GTA was VERY popular and has a huge current fanbase, I'm really thinking that even if smb3 was a classic and has nostalgia behind it, it just won't have the same online community to back it up with votes. (atleast I've never seen a "planet super mario brothers 3" or a "super mario brothers 3 resource" ;)
 
Here's a suggestion for those that would like to see CivIII win this thing. Put something in your Sig File! It might increase awareness on this board...

Chieftess - would this be okay? Roughly how many people are active in the forums?
 
Sure, you can put the GameSpy Title Fight in your sig. It's voting for Civ3, after all.

Yay! No unhapiness pour moi!!! Now, all of you, vote for Civ III on March 30!!! We must get as far as we can. But I'll be unhappy when Civ III faces off Ocarina of Time. GO CIV!!!!

In my book GTA is one of the Top Ten greatest games ever, but Civ is a Top One game for me ;) But for most non Civ gamers, Civ is also just a Top Ten game.
But I am worried, Mario is also a Top Ten Game, maby even Top Five. But if we can work tegether then we can Top them all, right guys and ladys?:goodjob:

We were up against some pretty stiff competition in the last round and it doesn't look to be getting any easier with SMB3 on the horizon. We'll just have to round up more people (build those grainaries!) and vote on every computer we can get our hands on.

I'm going to mobilize for the upcomming war and start drafting conscripts.
 
Civ is going down to mario3. Everyone knows mario so it can win on name recognition alone.

The casual gamer will come by and see the dated, obsolete, graphics of civ3 and think the game sucks.

" ewww a strategy game, I wanna blow things up not build roads and mines, my attention span is that of a gnat I could never understand civ" they'll say as they click the vote for mario :(
 
Looks like the best matchup will be Zelda: Ocarina of Time vs. Diablo 2. Both are fantastic games, Ocrani of Time often considered the best game of all time (on any system). Mario Kart could give DOOM a run for its money but DOOM will win because half the voters are people who have never played the game but claim too (because its cool to have played an old school game like DOOM!).

Civ3 vs. Super Mario Bro. will also be a good matchup but its hard to beat another game often seen as the best ever. I think it willl be somewhat close but Mario's got this one. :(

The final matchup will be half-life (most likely) vs. goldeneye/halo. I'm going to say goldeneye beats halo (goldeneye was an awesome game) but Half-Life will probably beat it.

I'd say Half-Life, Zelda or SMB3 will likely take it all but don't forget that Counterstrike has been voted back into the mix after getting knocked out earlier. Counterstrike could easily win it simply because it has a current fanbase miles ahead of any other still popular game.
 
Anyone here considering not voting for Civ3 should probably consider the fact that Civ3 represents the entire Civ series, in fact, all Sid Meier games...
We've got to be strong, and unconventional to beat this kind of competition... If you can do something to get another vote in, don't hesitate. If you don't, we will lose. (And yes, this does mean I'm gonna probably end up bribing my friend again. =\)

Civilization III has one of the biggest advantages of all those games. It is the large online fan base that is all over the internet. Very few games would be able to stand up to Civilization III a great game to begin with and doesn't even stand a chance when it comes against an enormus fanbase of diehard fans.

So far it's:

Doom vs. Super Mario Kart 64
Super Mario Brothers 3 vs. Civ3
Zelda: Ocarina of Time vs. Diablo II (I was really pulling for Starcraft on that one! :()

Halo (they've got this one nailed) vs. HL or UT.

Unreal Tournament is winning, but barely. It's also upset every other game in its' division.

Save for Abandoned Base/Black Mesa, it's shaping up to be Classic Game vs. New Game (technically, Civ3 is a new game, but based on classic game ideas from Civ1 and 2).


So, it looks like there's (if you like stats):

3 FPS (Doom, Halo and UT or HL)
1 Racing (SMK64)
2 Action/RPG (Legend of Zelda and Diablo II)
1 Strategy (Civ3)
1 Platform (SMB3)

Let's hope Civ3 wins this thing! :)
 
SMB3 may be powerful, but they don't stand a chance against Civ III's Killer Spearman!

Highest Vote Counts so far:
Doom - 10,268 in round 1
Diablo II - 10,579 in round 1
Halo - 10,021 in round 1

These are the juggernauts, no others have broken 10k. I think these will be the other 3 of the final 4. Interesting to note: CivIII's vote count went up each time. Round 1: 3,381; 2: 4,400; 3: 5,651

It will be interesting to see how this shakes out.

Chieftess - any idea how many people are registered on this site? (Roughly?)

Can we drum up enough votes to break 11k? That's what it's going to take.
 
IIRC, about 40,000 users are registered on CFC, with 8,000 unique hits each day.
