TNESI: The Glorious Mysteries

From Bavaria
To Andulasia

We will stand by the Catholic alliance on this matter. We can not do much to you militarily but we condem your recent actions and your attempts to limit commerce which will only lead to conflict. We plead for you to withdraw the edict before many young Christians and Muslims die.

OOC: Birdjaguar is at a funeral of a relative :( Says so in the vacation thread thlayli

And I must say, all this infighting in the Indian Ocean will only leave you ever so weakened for the coming Europeans :mischief: That's all OOC of course ;)

Well, you know, if Wubba hadn't assassinated my heir, his nation might have survived.

OOC: You know, I really can't imagine Persia, Zanzibar, the horn state and the Hadrumat to be able to take down Egypt. Is there perhaps another nation? :mischief:

If Thlayli's NPCs haven't been lying to me, Egypt is going down in flames within the next few turns.

If they've been lying (or I misinterpreted things a bit), it'll be closer, but Egypt is not more powerful than Zanzibar and Persia together. (Hadramut and Adal are negligible, honestly.)

I'm sorry, but recent real life events combined with the timing of you deadline makes this an impossible NES for me. I may stop in to criticize what ever you do with Irish religion ( :p ) but I can't continue playing, sorry.

Sorry to see you go, Israelite. The Irish Empire had (and still has) promise!

Decisions, decisions...I have two good candidates for the spotlight, of about equal violence and chaos.

Status on update oh Lord of Musketeers :)

Not even close to being close to being finished, sorry. ;) Perhaps tomorrow, but most likely Sunday.

For all you lurkers, the Irish Empire, Incan Empire, Galicia, Papal States, (though a puppet,) Vijayanagara, and Malayu are all great NPC's. Why not take them, and make my workload even more grueling? :p

I'll switch to the Irish Empire, if i can.

OOC: My point is made ;)

TO: The Holy Empire of Austria, The Papal States, and The Kingdom of Tuscany
FROM: The Byzantine Empire

We do not think it the least outrageous that the Andalusian Caliphate be allowed to impose its own restrictions upon its own territories. We do, however, believe that the terms are somewhat strict, and should be adjusted. The Papal response is outrageous, however, and we condemn it. The Pope is a spiritual authority, and while we respect his right as a spiritual leader to excercise judgement on things of a spiritual nature, we do not believe it is in his right, as both Pope and a vassal to the Viennese Throne, to excercise such rash statements. Do recall that the Byzantine Empire is allied defensively to the Andalusian Caliphate, and do recall that the Byzantine Empire in Naples is only a short march from Rome.

We ask that the Andalusian Caliphate relax its terms, allow for the full passage of all merchant shipping, aswell as all military shipping from all nations, provided the military shipping be subject to inspection, and provided only that the fleet is no larger than 20 Ships if the nation is not directly allied to the Andalusian Caliphate. Nations at war with the Andalusian Caliphate shall be barred from entrance.

Preview to Update 2

"We regret your position, but truly there is naught that the Empire can do for you at this time."

"Pathetic lies, and I know it. You are merely a puppet, a pawn of greater forces. We are all pawns. I do not blame you for being a puppet, not in the least. What I blame you for is refusing to admit it."

"Your anger gets the best of you, my lord. The Empire exists on peaceful terms with all her neighbors, great and small. His Majesty the Emperor is a benevolent friend to all his allies, encouraging commerce and the betterment of European peoples."

"So essentially, the Norse are abandoning us for words. Words can be erased with a gesture, but land is far more difficult to retake. But no, your Emperor in his benevolence will let Germany burn for the sake of his dreams. But again, I blame him not. What I blame you all for is pushing this disgusting lie of an alliance on my people!"

"The Norse Empire acts in the interests of her citizens, and the citizens of her allies."

"You idiotic fool. I care very little what petty lordship you aspire to, but your idea of a successful negotiation is far different than mine. The Bavarian armies are massing on our border, and in a year you will see the spectre of all that you fought to destroy in the last century reborn before your very eyes. And all for the sake of words. Good day to you."

It would culminate soon. Thuringia was the beginning, and Westphalia had bent the knee. Upper Saxony seemed an insignificant German state, he knew. And at times, he was disgusted with himself. His failure to build a unified identity, his failure to reform the army, his failure to feed the peasants.

And Bavaria was moving. Canute was an absolute idiot to let this happen. His ancestors were probably shrieking at him from the grave to stop Bavaria while there was still time, and the shadowy magnates of the Catholic League that pulled the strings behind it. The decade would see a new, German superstate, more stable and centralized than the Holy Roman Empire, but this time sanctioned and supported by the Pope, Austria, and Aquitaine...it would be a waking nightmare for the Norse.

Saxony was on the fringe, a tiny, unacceptable state that could be eliminated with little trouble. But the Norse, too, were on the fringe. Ireland, Byzantium, Andalusia...all would be destroyed by the new, rising order in time.

But it would not end like this, not again. The Welfs would not flee and cower under the shadow of a foreign throne. He would end their wretched line, here and now.

He picked up the pistol. Pressing it to his forehead, he fired.

OOC: Alas, the story is right. Canute is an idiot ;) Though I'm quite sure the last of the Wulfs should have known better then to suicide... :(

THough strangely, I would say Austria should be opposed to an unified Germany (not under her control that is)

I think Austria's interests are more so in Italy at the moment. Also, I am a Roman Catholic nation which Austria likes at least I think :)
