TNT Files Term 7 - 9

I'm not sure we want to tell TNT that we produced another knight. We don't know who they might talk to if pressed.

Let's just tell them that despite our military growing over the last couple of turns, the stats haven't changed.

I also don't think it's useful to them unless they actually know what we had before. We can just keep saying weak, average, or strong - unless we want complete openness as greekguy requested at one point...

OK and noted :salute: ... I was just reciprocating thier recent openess ... sorry about the slip  ... I will send vaguearies in future until otherwise instructed.

Dear MIA,

We appreciate you advice concerning the Gallic War. We will take your words into consideration and decide on which path to take very soon. However, the situation has changed quickly in the span of one turn. A great battle was fought outside the town of Spite, and losses were large on both sides. We will recover from the losses soon, but we are deeply worried about the number of Gallic Swordsmen on our continent. Perhaps you could build up your military a bit, as a deterent to KISS from sending more troops overseas.

Now, concerning the trading of Ironic Silk, my people have decided we prefer to trade for Invention, rather than Theology. However, we realize Invention will not be discovered for several turns. So, we thought you could trade us a hefty amount of gold for the time being. We could then renegotiate the sale of a second 20 turns of silk shipments when your people discover the secrets of Invention.

Also, my people have decided it is not worth the gold to spy on the KISS towns at this moment. We might go down this route in the future, but right now, we've concluded a diplomatic spying operation would be of little use.

Lastly, I have finished drafting a formal peace treaty between our two nations. I hope this treaty shall last for centuries to come, ensuring peaceful relations between the two supreme nations of the world, Iron and Greece!

Peace Treaty

Bye for now.

 :rotfl:

Yes, TNT - we want to give you a hefty ammount of Gold AND Invention for your silks!!
No seriously!!

 Is this stand-up comedy?!?

Realistically, the diplomatic response is probably something like...
"Thanks for the offer, but we believe it is important for both of us that we keep our economy focused on Science (as we're the only one researching for our team now) and so we politely decline your offer to pay gold for Silks right now. We can wait for silks until we have Invention. (which, btw, we expect to have much sooner than 20 turns from now)

or something like that.

EDIT: X-post with Chamnix... and I agree... I don't see us ever attacking TNT... but even then, that treaty is a little TOO broad for my taste.

First - the battle was fought outside Spite (the KISS town). I'm assuming that means TNT moved units toward Spite and took the brunt of the damage.:gripe: It will be interesting to see if our military status has changed with respect to either combatant (if we ever get the save). I wonder if we could get more details on the exact nature of the KISS casualties (and even the TNT ones just out of curiousity) from our friends.

Secondly, I don't think KISS will hesitate to send more troops overseas regardless of what we build, but if we build troops, it may make KISS more willing to sign peace sooner. We should tell TNT that we are converting a couple cities to knights just because they asked us to.

They think Invention is "several" turns away so they can renegotiate silk later. Invention is in fact 4-5 turns away (depending on what turn it is now). I would rather not tell them how fast our research is - can we claim we started Invention a few turns ago but didn't tell TNT without making them mad at us?

They want a hefty amount of gold. Unfortunately, silks are useless to us (I think they will push exactly 1 town into WLTKD for exactly 3 turns). Once again, it would be a gift of gold on our part - I'm not really in favor of giving our gold to someone who doesn't seem to use it very effectively, but I'm sure others may feel differently.

And the peace treaty - they want a permanent treaty it looks like. Attacking them is not high on our to-do list, and we can certainly win this game without taking TNT land, but that seems like a little too much commitment right now...

Edit - X posted with GW

Sent this ... bloody hell those boys are a worry.

To greekguy, Donsig and all at TNT

Prior to responding to your recent correspondence.

Military Strengths relative to MIA,
> Nut's ... STRONG
> TNT ... AVERAGE
> KISS ... WEAK

KISS commissioned another Settler ... leaving 2 unaccounted for.

In future, we would like kill details for all battles which include the rank of the unit ... it is only with this that we can attempt to calculate the size of the KISS army. We are slowly building up our military and more detailed battle reporting will greatly assist our cause.

I will respond in due course the other matters.

Regards

Feaurius III
MIA Foreign Minister

So they want to feed us luxes for finite 20 turn periods. can't blame them actually ... so what will our responce be.

I'm still happy and eager to send them ALL military tech they want (however we retain control of the timing) in return for automatic luxes given as soon as they are able.

Thoughts ??

other than the peace deal which lasts for centuries is :shake: ... strange and addresses nothing! ... at least we could make it erea specific.

EDIT ... I assume a more detailed Battle Report is sent to KISS as per the rules of pbem ...

We should make a note that they don't cc the damned thing when they send it to KISS ... :wallbash: if this is not mentioned to them I can just see them doing this !!!

We should wait until we have invention to trade for the silks.

As for gifting them gold, I'm only in support if we get the entire battlelog after each turn, TNT spends the gold on nothing but Military units.

As for the Peace Treaty, there are some mis-wordings that could be a concern. The treaty is vacuous. I have nothing against signing it, though, as I don't really think TNT will be around into the industrial era.

Here is an awkward thought - the 1000 Monkeys Treaty says:

V. Naval units must be granted permission prior to ending their turn if they are closer than one tile from the other team's cultural border.

Our boat will not be able to get to observation position without KISS' permission (or unless we survive a turn at sea) thanks to Malice. Anyone want to explain this to TNT?

I dont' see the problem, Chamnix. Unless our units can't end their turn in a sea square (can they? I honestly can't remember how that works :crazyeye:) we may station our lookout on the whale W W of Frozen Lake.

If we can't end at sea, then we could take a gamble:
1. End on coast tile N, N, NE of Malice.
2.Next turn end on sea tile NE, NE, NE of Malice.
3.End final turn in lookout position on coast tile E, E, S of Malice.
This will only require us to gamble on one turn. We would need compensation from TNT for this, if we lose the galley. Maybe 20 turns of silks, but 5 of them for free? Just a thought..

EDIT: Or we just plow on through without asking KISS, and explain, if caught, that we forgot that there was the 1 tile buffer clause... But I'm not crazy about fibbing.

We cannot end our turn on a sea tile without risk of sinking right now, although I guess we will be able to with Astronomy (8-9 turns away). Of course, if we get noticed sitting on a sea tile, it may make others suspect we have Astronomy already, but we may be able to get by unnoticed depending on where KISS' units are.

So I assume this means you don't think it's worth the risk of sinking?

Personally, I'm not in favor of the risk, but I'd like to hear others weigh in, and give the reasoning behind their opinions.

Want to send this ... points are open to discussion.

Hi TNT

Turn Report ... 132

D-Nuts ... We have a STRONG Military
TNT ... We have an AVERAGE Military
KISS ... We have a WEAK Military

KISS have Ivory  ... is it from Auda City ???

Peeking Costs
Spite - 31
Malice - 32
Auda City - 28
KISS still have 1 settler unaccounted for.

TNT have discovered Theology
KISS Invention last turn and automatically passed to TNT when discovered.

Our Knight is slow slogging through swamp and our Galley is moving eastward ho along your coast, however due to conditions of the treaty we may not be able to move into the sea lane that KISS are using to supply their war efforts. Therefore you probably need to build some of your own navy, our ship can act as a warning for a KISS surprise landing deeper onto your northern coast.

We are beginning to increase military ... how is it with you?
We will have Invention in the next 3 turns and will automatically send it on to you ... so you may as well send us your Silks.

We have spoken to the Nuts and they seem worried about us, therefore we are confident that at this stage KISS is your only worry.

Sincerely MIA

PS. Donsig could you not send the next save as a zip ... we are experiencing some glitches and it would be good to test if it is related to this.

Regarding the voyage of the Twitching Aardvark we should not risk a sinking ... perhaps when we reach the border we may be able to skip into KISS' supply route safely. If not we will have to outline the problem to TNT and it may get them to build navy of their own. Our ship can secure that KISS do not surprise TNT with a landing along their northern coast.

I wouldn't tell them how soon we'll have Invention. I'm nervous about too many details falling into a losing team's hands.

I also don't think they should build a Navy at all. Those shields would be much better spent on Immortals or Horsemen. A boat can niether attack nor defend well, so it may as well just be a look-out, which, if KISS wanted to, would be sunk in short order.

One last thing. I'm not confident at all that DNUTs won't attack TNT. It would be misleading to say that to TNT.

Hmmm ... thanks for feedback peter

Reasons to tell them Invention is to be open ... If I were TNT, I know I'd be getting a bit miffed if all we tell them is how to play the game and then only send vague promises about tech. They have already expressed concerns that they are not in the tech race and are eager to research themselves ... so I am basically sending them assurances.

Reason for navy is just my thoughts and if we can do nothing to plug the supply lines ... it is upto them to start sinking the ships.

Anyway it is in very draft form so discussion is good and wanted :D

Maybe we could tell them that we'll be able to give them invention by turn 140.

As for the navy - we'd need 4 galleys minimum to plug supply lines, and even then we can't do it until Astronomy without breaking our treaty with KISS.

The best scenario for MIA is for TNT to build nothing but Immortals, forcing KISS to build units as well.

I agree with peter grimes. There are also a couple typos - you say TNT discovered Theology, and KISS gave Invention to TNT - both "TNT's" should be Dnuts.

Still Draft

Nutters have discovered Theology, expect KISS to get it next turn.

Our Knight is slow slogging through swamp and our Galley is moving eastward ho along your coast. Unfortunately due to specific conditions within the treaty we may not be able to move into the sea lane that KISS are using to supply their war efforts. However, our ship can still act as an early warning and deterrent to any KISS surprise landing along your northern coast.

I still don't see the problem with the 3 turns until Invention.

EDIT ... Deleted ... Nut no attach warning.

Looks good - I'm ok with telling them we're 3 turns away... but maybe express VERY CLEARLY that we don't want KISS/Nuts to know anything about our reserach ability.
You know - something like: "Please remember that we are sharing what we consider to be very sensitive information with you. Please guard our secrets!"

Otherwise - looks good!

Is it possible for you to send us a copy of the Battle Outcome Report that you would have sent KISS ... that way we can attempt to calculate their military strength.

Sincerely MIA

PS. Donsig we are receiving the saves as a zip ... we are experiencing some glitches ... are you?
CivAssist is a problem and also the Espionage screen which shows that you only have the cities that are produced on that turn by others and not the ones you own.
If you are zipping could you not do it this turn (although I'm told that this is a g-mail feature)
