To alcohol - The cause of and solution to all life's problems.

Its always nice to have a good drink with friends. I try not to get drunk anymore, but when it happens, I go with it.

by "a nice red" I ostensibly am referring to a red wine, such as a Merlot or a Cabernet or a Pinot Noir.

We used to make fun of words like "pinot" and "noir" and "festival"...

..ahem. What I mean is that wine tastes like a mix of grape juice, vinegar, and Everclear, i.e., like crap.

(note: if you don't understand the image, then you need to watch moar canceled Fox shows)

And when I say "Gin and Tonic", I am of course referring to a popular beverage which mixes Gin with Tonic Water, and is usually served with a lime wedge.

Lime, you say? I could get into that.

Well, it's just one glass, but yes, techinically I am breaking the law:D.

I haven't had beer of any kind, and my church also uses grapejuice.

I actually think depending on your state it may be legal in your own home (Civ_King said its legal in California at least, and I take his word for it) at an earlier age (I think Civ_King said 11... If he's here he can confirm it.)

Not that I really have a problem with what you do anyways, even if it is illegal. Just don't brag about it offline:p

Not all beers are the same. Some are hoppier than others. A Stout is as different from an Ale as, say, Root Beer is from 7UP.

I don't even know what it was, it just tasted like soap to me. If they're really that different, maybe there are some I'd like, I dunno. Also, that was when I was like 12, but I wouldn't drink the same kind again knowingly:crazyeye:

Again, your opinion, and I'm just sorry that you're missing out on one of the most refined and rewarding beverages on the planet (it's also supposedly an extremely healthy beverage when taken regularly!)

Oh no, it's 21 everywhere in the US. It will be legal for me in less than 6 months.

With alcohol, just keep an open mind (and open palette). Most alcohols are acquired tastes and price of beverage also plays a large part (10 dollar plastic bottle tequila is unpalatable by any metric, but I hear 100 dollar top shelf tequila is exquisite. When I was your age I was determined to never drink any alcoholic beverage, and as you can plainly see I've made a complete turnaround since then, so I guess my point is never say never.

I drink alcohol to lower my risk of coronary heart disease.

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/11070527

"Among the 196 initially reviewed articles, 51 were selected. Since qualitative characteristics of the studies were significant sources of heterogeneity, the pooled dose-response functions were based on the 28 cohort studies with higher quality. Risk decreased from 0 to 20 g/day (RR = 0.80; 95% CI: 0.78, 0.83); there was evidence of a protective effect up to 72 g/day (RR = 0.96; 95% CI: 0.92, 1.00)."

Your first beer always tastes like piss (mine did). It's cause you've never had anything like it. You'll learn to like it.

If you insist. What kind of beer would you recommend for someone who prefers beers that don't taste like horse piss?

Everyone has different tastes. Personally I like really hoppy beers like IPAs. My roommates who used to hate beer now swear by Guinness (which is I believe a Stout) and they also quite like Porters. I find those two types have a more mellow taste that isn't as abrasive and in your face as some ales like Sierra Nevada. The important thing is you don't drink crap like Budweiser or Pabst. Those are little more than piss-flavored water and really don't serve any purpose other than to get somebody drunk off of beer pong.

I'm not going to try to condition myself to like it if I don't. I see no good reason to do so.

I kid you not, I literally said the exact same thing when I was 17 trying alcohol for the first time. Trust me when I said it will be worth it and completely make sense once you have conditioned yourself.

So I should try Guinness?

What are IPAs and Porters?

So I should try Guinness?

What are IPAs and Porters?

They're varieties of beers.

There are lagers like:
Budweiser
Pale Ales like:
Sierra Nevada or
Anchor Steam
Porters like
Anchor Porter
Stouts like
Guinness
(Think of Stouts like super Porters)
IPA is India Pale Ale and is a type of Pale Ale which is particularly hoppy, owing to its unique fermenting process.

It refers to the ingredients going into the beer and how the beer is actually fermented. Like I said before, beer is a very wide term and can refer to a wide array of flavors.

even for someone that doesn't drink nowadays, my favorite chocolate is old Jamaica ...raisins and RUM
and you can not make a good casserole, without half a bottle of quality wine

Xmas pudding without flamed brandy or even the classic English trifle without liqueur.... let alone fish and chips without a beer batter

all these are loved by tea totaling Grannies for there taste alone

Can you give any good reason? Just because you say "Its worth it" doesn't mean I'll ever find out.

For once in your life, Dommy, take a chance. ;)
