You have to be registered to vote and this poll reflects what age you are when you voted. So if someone under ten voted then they broke the rule of no 13-and-under persons unless they used the separate regristration form.

This is one of the most important polls Atari could have ever hoped for.

I'm 17 going on 80 something or other, I've lived a lot of places and thus died many times. I became interested in the game because it is fluid and true to life in many aspects. I guess young soldiers just fade away at the same rate of the old ones or is this a pendulum swing

I`m 26. I started to play CIV I, when I was 15. In those times my English was realy bad and I spent hours and hours with dictionary to find out what the hell is "this and that". You couldnt imagine my patience in that days guys! and thanks to CIV my Engish vocabulary improved a lot! :))

LOL.
I believe in the english courses you might have taken, you must have talked about the history of Egypt, the details of immortals weaponry, and some good explanation about different types of governments, etc...

Hi Hygro,

It has its advantages and disadvantages. I, for one, love to hear that we have such a broad range of ages interested in Civ. The so-called "hard core gamer" age group is roughly 15-25 (still single / in college / disposable time / disposable income.)

But it's very hard to advertise and target an audience with marketing communications when they're so diversified. How do I reach a Civ fan? Which magazines are read by Civ fans? Which web sites (besides fan sites) will grab the attention of someone who enjoyed Civ 2 several years ago but never got around to picking up Civ 3? How do we make an expansion pack that's appealing for people "from 15-65" ?

But that's my problem, not yours. In any case, it's a testament to the success of Sid and Firaxis's design team that they can create games that reach out of the primary gaming community to become more universally played. And we at Atari are more than happy to be able to deliver that experience to all of you.

Best,
Jeff Foley

P.S. Still not too late to pre-order Civ Conquests! It releases this Tuesday in North America! (C'mon, whaddya expect me to say? ;) )

I'm 120 years old,still going strong.

.....Incase ya wondering I'm is 19.

I feel your marketing pain, Jeff.

As a 41 year old Civ-fanatic, I can say that one of the aspects that makes the game so enjoyable is the simple fact that it AVOIDS any obvious or blatant embedded niche-marketing schemes. I'm sure you could have somehow come up with a way to, say, make MTV a tech (adds one contented face, subtracts 5 science in each city), or some other ploy to attract that ever-vaunted 15 to 25 age group. Civ has avoided this common trap, very much to its benefit.

:goodjob:

Heh, marketing ad thrown in at the end of the post.

Is it just me or does Jeff's avatar look like it's 80x80 or something?

hmm i started playing civ when i was 8 now im 11 sigh i had no idea i was a young one.

I just read a bit in this thread, found a post of myself and thought, hey, I never lie about my age! till I realized this thread is quite old... we are not only too old to play, we get older while playing... :)

I'm 29 and got "the talk" from my wife a couple months ago, she is 39. At the time I was deep into UT2003. I have since quit playing it, and returned to CIV3, and she seems to have no problems with CIV3.

I've been told "I don't know how you can sit there and play online for hours with people you don't even know", "plus you have that headset on and nobody can talk to you"...Maybe she can handle CIV3 because it isnt so in your face violent like UT, who knows.....

I'm 42 and play Civ 3 almost 8hrs a day. On disability so I have a lot of time to play. I have loved this game since I bought it for the Playstation. Only game I really play. Just ordered PTW so I'm waiting with nail biting to recieve it. Then for Christmas I've asked my wife to get me Civ3:Conquests as a present. I am really addicted to this game. Just suprising how many of us are older that play this game. I know its too involved for my kids and they would rather play like first person shooters. Not me I love Civ3.

i've been playing since i was 9. i'm turning 11 in 24 days, but i voted for 0-10. and just a comment, i don't think anyone under 7 would be playing civ3. which is why i think that the 0-10 catagory should be changed to the 7-10 catagory. and just for fun, you could add the catagory "i'm so smart i started playing civ3 before i was born!" but, if you like the poll the way it is, i could not agree less!
