I noticed that the average player of Civ really is a lot older as an average PC game player.
I'm addicted to Civ since my parents bought the game in ehm, what was the release date......1996.
I went strait over the 1000 hours of play, until some %!#@$! totally wrecked the CD, I then bought Civ III, but i do like Civ II still much more, as my first love. Don't you all agree that those movies were much nicer, same goes for the music. I would love to have those music files back...

So I play Civ now for almost 9 years and still going strong, which means the half of my life! I'm 19 by now and will never leave Civ again! Even in a country where the game isn't sold very much

I'm 29. My girlfriend says I'm too old to play such games, I should start thinking of marriage, having kids,...yaaarghhh!!!

Not so in my case: I am older than the average PC-gamer, but I am not an average player :D
I wonder how long I will play it, but it is an addicting game.
How can I say that? I play the game now for... a week
I belong into the 40+ group with my 51 years of age, so my age is a plus, according to all of these posts.

Now I don't remember where I saw the research result, but it told that average player for
/action games (specially simpler shooting) are not so mature teenage males
/but for strategic games the "normal" person are a middle age male

and I add - that has kept his sence for enjoying himself and haven't became that booring that them that forget that become ;o)
Since that research was made (a year ago or so) it had become much more common that player are females, specially if the game is more of a social type as for instance the Sims, where I believe I saw that the female players are MORE common than male players, and The Sims are the most sold strategic game. (At least it's called "strategic" game by some.)

So you males that have problems with complaining girlfriends/wifes perhaps better show them The Sims. Then she perhaps will be occupiedc with playing that instead of complaining at your play ;o) BUT LOOK OUT - better not tell her if you don't have one computer each, because otherwize perhaps you can't play because the computer has become occupied by your girlfriend/wife ;o)

You have another option: explain the basics of Civ and make her try! (but then you'll have another problem: if you don't wanna fight, buy another computer  )

I'm 15 and I first started playing SMAC when I was 11 or so. My sister bought it from a garage sale and figured I might want it. I played that for quite a while and of course bought Firaxis' next game, Civilization 3, as soon as it came out. Most of my friends think it's the most boring game ever and I pity them for their ignorance.

I am 14 (soon to be 15) and I remember playing Civ II at about 6:00 A.M. on saturday mornings at my friends house.

^lol @ that.
Im 15.

I'm 14 (turning 15 in a month). My age is nothing special, I guess.

OMG!! "Nothing special"!! i WISH i could have that "nothing special" age again, hehehe.

Have fun you all, youngs and elders!!

Heck, I'm almost 21 and I still play Civilization 3 Conquest. I became addicted to Civ2 when I'm almost 13.

It was long time ago when I first time saw Civ. It was when pirate games were still legal in Poland (these beautifull days :D ). It was on my friends Amiga and it was on 5 diskettes (if I recall).

It looks like I (31) am just slightly 'over the hill' in Civ age! I have always loved games- I got hooked on D&D when I was in 5th grade and played all sorts of RPGs and computer games like Ultima and the original Castle Wolfenstein on my friends' PCs until dawn when I was in high school! I took a long break, but when I started going to college (when I was 25- late bloomer) I got my own PC and had a lot of gaming to catch up on! I didn't start playing PC Civ until last summer, but I used to play the Avalon Hill Civilization boardgame with my neighbors 20 years ago! Great boardgame!!!! -but AFAIK it is out of print now, except for an edition printed in France or Italy. Incidentally, there is a game shop in Harvard Square that sells it ($60!), if anybody wants to revisit the original game :goodjob: .

FWIW, at least I feel less immature playing Civ than Grand Theft Auto!:satan:

I'm 16, and I've been playing Civ for 4 blissful years. I got hooked when I downloaded an abandonware (I think) spin-off of Civ 1 called Antiquity. Kind of sucked, but I thought the idea was very good, so I started researching Civ II and bought a copy from ebay. I'm surprised at how old the average age is. I didn't know there was the time in the 'real world'!

There isn't any time in the real world, Haradrim. You just have to prioritize: Civ? or Sleep? Civ? or Sleep?

It's a tight fit-- I don't know how the folks with children do it!

I'm playing computer games for about as long as I can remember! I begun with arcade games(at stores - needless to say, that I have spent fortunes on arcade games) at the age of 11(I could fill whole pages, only writing the names of the games that I've played), have owned consoles, and own a PC(and never looked back again to arcades or consoles) since 4 years. I'm on the 21-30 age group.

What I love in Civ, is the way you need to plan for every single action/decision you take: I just love it!(The Turn-Based system gives you the time to plan everything). It is like chess. That's what made me like a "God" when I played arcade games, way back in those glorious days: other people came close to see me playing, but they mostly failed to realise that you first need to understand how the AI(in every game) behaves and what it'll do when you make a specific action; if you know how the AI will correspond, the game is already won!
